So, not so long ago I turned 39. Thinking about the next one I started considering things I enjoy that I never seem to find time for. Skip to the end... gaming. As a kid, I loved gaming from a Sinclair 48k through the 8 and 16 bit consoles, handhelds to Dreamcast to PS2 & PC. Then 'life' just kinda got in the way...
[The Quest]
Here's what I want to do. Assemble a list of the 39 most important computer or video games in history, from year zero to the present day. A crash course in must-pay gaming.
What are the titles and breakthroughs this entire industry is based upon and wouldn't be the same without?
I'll choose randomly, more convincing comments will have better chances.

So I finally got around to watching Hitchock's supposed British masterpiece, The 39 Steps. Having been an avid student of cinema for a number of years now, I was well familiar with the films reputation as one of Hitch's greatest achievements before his move to Hollywood. As you could expect, I had high expectations. My thoughts, I have to say, were pretty mixed.
Hitchcock definitely has a clear mastery of visual storytelling even at this stage of his career. Everything flows really well together and a great sense of space is achieved throughout the film. Definitely no outstanding issues there.
But in terms of suspense and storytelling, it all seemed a bit messy to me. There was an almost unsettling amount of misogyny in how every female character is almost completely subservient to the central protagonist. The murdered spy and the Scottish farm girl both basically accept him as a hero without any thought, and Madeleine Carroll's character is treated like a stubborn upstart for ever doubting his sincerity. None of them have enough screen time to ever be developed into a compelling character. Even the most problematic female characters in Hitch's American films were allowed to stick around, or at least take up some role in the narrative, for the majority of the run time.
The suspense plot itself is never interesting enough to rise above regular genre fare. This is where Hitchcock is supposed to excel, and yet at no moment did I feel any tension as the plot developed. The action just seems to lurch from one scene to another, with some glaring plot holes keeping me from completely suspending my disbelief.
Overall, it's not a terrible film. It's not even bad. But I just find myself confused as to why this has been upheld as an early masterpiece. Have I missed some kind of important subtext here? What do you all think?
I wasn't really raised with a lot of financial knowledge, but I'm trying to educate myself and do better. I know 23 is a little late for first credit card but I was always nervous about getting one. I would really like to build my credit as it's only 691 at the moment. I was just planning on using it to buy my gas and groceries and then paying it off in full each month. I've paid all my bills on time since I was 18, and I've paid off my only student loan in full. Other than that, I have no real credit history.
Last October, I developed sepsis and nearly died. I was in the hospital for a week and a half. Insurance paid for a good amount of my treatment but I still had several thousand dollars that I had to pay out of pocket. I thought I paid everything, but I must have missed a bill.
I wanted to apply for a Discover Student Cash Back card, but was denied because I had a bill in collections. I was really confused because I couldn't think of any bills that I had missed. I ran a credit report through Equifax and discovered I had an unpaid medical bill from my hospital stay for only $39 that had been sent to a collections agency.
I'm incredibly frustrated that I could have missed this, especially when it's so small. I'm obviously going to pay it first thing tomorrow, but has this messed up my credit report for the next 7 years? Will I be denied again if I apply for another student card? How long should I wait before I apply again? Can I apply for the same card? Please help! I feel so stupid that I could have missed this.

39 days ago my 14 year old daughter found me a wreck on my kitchen floor (see subreddit #alcoholism) and I promised her Iโd go to AA, that I canโt do this any more. Well itโs Hitchcock alright (to anyone who got the title clue). What a thriller of a roller coaster this last month and a bit has been but for the grace of God Iโve ridden the downs as well as had a brief insight to the highs of sobriety. I read a lot in these posts about the struggle but none tell me itโs not worth it. Keep going I hear, the support is phenomenal and I hold it close when that other phenomenon of craving creeps in as it still does daily. Itโs true that the devil works a lot harder with the alcoholic than God, He (in whatever form you think of him) is there but you have to work to find him..... whereas the devil heโs knocking at your door, your mind ... constantly. Thank you to everyone for getting me this far. Itโs incredible to feel the power of people. All willing each other on. Thank you. And onwards!
