A list of puns related to "Table Talk"
I glanced over and noticed that they were quite attractive. A little on the larger side, but that never stopped me before. So, yogurt cup in hand, I boldly approached their table.
βExcuse me,β I said, βI couldnβt help but overhear your conversation, and I noticed your lovely accents. Are you two ladies from Scotland by any chance?β
They immediately bristled at my question, obviously offended, and one of them snapped at me, βItβs Wales!β
βNo offense intended,β I replied. βPlease allow me to try again...are you two whales from Scotland?β
Me: Do you know the symbol for Potassium?
GF: Let me think about it....
Me: K.
GF: No seriously don't tell me.
Me: K.
A high schooler wants to ask his best female friend to prom. Because theyβve been friends for so long, he really wants to make his βpromposalβ special. He talks to his friends, he talks to her friends, and spends days planning the perfect moment. Happily, she says yes!
Over the next couple of months, she sends him different styles and colors of ideas for her dress. He tells honestly that sheβs always been beautiful to him, and privately to himself, he is now realizing he has strong feelings for her. He knows he needs to tell her.
The night of the prom, heβs extremely anxious. What if he says something stupid? What if she laughs at him or doesnβt return his feelings? What if she thinks heβs a terrible dancer? All of these thoughts are swirling around in his mind as both their parents fuss over them and make them pose for a million photos.
They get to the prom and heβs even more anxious. Itβs dark, itβs loud, itβs crowded. They have to shout to be heard. But she grabs his hand, leads him to the dance floor, and they forget everything and everyone around them. A while later, as the songs have gotten slower, he can feel his heart pounding. He thinks itβs finally the right time. He leans down and whispers the truth in her ear, the truth about having loved her since they met in second grade. She starts to cry happy tears, saying sheβs always loved him too, and they kiss. As the song ends and changes to something fast again, he asks her if sheβd like to sit and have a drink. She says yes, could he please get her some punch?
He feels like heβs walking on clouds as he goes over to where the drinks and food are laid out. He wants to get back to her right away and hopes he doesnβt have to wait too long at the refreshments table.
He makes his way through the crowd, and is able to get their drinks and return to his waiting love within just a couple of minutes. Because, would you believe it?
There was no punch line.
My 14 year old daughter got up from the table after eating a bowl of cereal, so I told her to put the milk away. Then we had this exchange:
"Before you put that back in the fridge, why don't you plug it into the iPhone charger on the counter first?"
"What? What are you talking about?"
"Yeah, you gotta charge up that milk. It's only at one percent!"
I say it so often now that my kids stopped eating cereal, and have pretty much cut dairy from their diets.
I responded by saying "No, it's Jeff". Now they always ask for the Jeff when they're done.
This just happened at the dinner table. My Dad was talking about how he got up very early for work. The conversation went like this:
Dad: βMan, I woke up way too early this morning and it completely threw me out of sync.β
Me: βWell, why were you sleeping in the sink?β
My Mom rolled her eyes.
I am Dad now.
I'm sitting at the dining room table with my mom just chatting about nothing in particular, when my dad walks with this shit eating grin holding something behind his back. Now for a little background info, my dad NEVER does surprises. And I mean never. So I immediately knew something was up. My mom turns around and asks him what's going on. He tells her to close her eyes and hold out her hands because he got her a surprise. At this point my mom gets really excited and asking, "what is it?! What is it?!" To which my dad replies,
"Do you remember when we went out the other day and you were looking at those new running shoes, but you decided not to get them because they were too expensive?"
To which she responds, "ahhhh! Yes I remember!!"
He then says, "well I saw how much you liked them so I decided to get you a pear."
And he puts a fresh pear in her hands.
She still won't talk to him.
I didn't make the joke in english but it translates well.
We just had lunch and my mom was clearing out the table and putting stuff in the dishwasher while my brothers and my dad were talking about the party we were going to that afternoon. My mom and dad would go there by bike and my brothers and I would take the car.
Then my mom said: "should I turn on the dishwasher so everything will be clean when we'll return?"
On which I commented: "That's not fair, we go by car, and you by bike, while the dishwasher has to run?"
We were catering this morning at a local breakfast event. After we cleaned up we hung out in the kitchen and she was talking about a wooden table that was there too.
Her: "I think this thing is amazing. I think that's for beating meat" (not what you think)
Me: "I'd use a hammer for that"
Mother and I were talking about a trip I have been packing for, and she asks me a specific question while at the table eating breakfast.
Mom: "Do you have a car charger for the van?"
Me: "Mom, we don't charge the van. It runs on gas."
Mom: glares
Dad: chokes on eggs
Edit: Wow. Didn't think this was that funny! Thanks guys for all the glorious upvotes :D
A boy was in love with a girl. Madly in love. He told his older brother, who suggested he ask her to the upcoming prom. So, that night, he went to her house with some flowers and chocolates and asked the girl to the prom.
She was overjoyed. She took the flowers and hugged him around the neck. When he went home, his brother told him he had to get ready. Prom was in only a week!
The next day, he traveled to a suit store. He picked out the perfect one. It would go perfectly with his dateβs dress. He picked his up and went to check out. Unfortunately, it seems a lot of people were buying suits, as the line nearly went out of the store. He groaned, but anything for his love. After two long hours, he finally got his suit.
A couple days later, his brother suggested that he rent a limo. He and his brother went to rent one that evening. When they arrived, they discovered that there were nearly 50 people waiting to rent a vehicle. They waited for nearly three hours, but they were finally able to rent a limo for the big day.
The afternoon before the dance, he went to buy some flowers for his date. Unfortunately, the store seemed to be having a sale, and the checkout lines extended into the parking lot. He stomped his foot. βWhy is it that every time I go to buy something, everyone else wants to buy it too?!β He begrudgingly waited for nearly four hour before walking out with a bouquet of roses.
That night, he rode in the limo to his dateβs house. She got in, and they talked the entire trip. He presented her with the flowers, which she adored. Her dress was stunning, and went perfectly with his suit.
They arrived at the school and got out, arms linked. They walked inside, said hi to a couple of friends, and began dancing and enjoying the night.
About halfway through the dance, the boy was parched. He told his girl that he was going to get a drink. He walked over to the snack table and discovered that there was no punch line.
Our 11 year old is attending a debate camp and at the dinner table she was telling us about her day. We decided she would have a mock debate against my husband the following day so she could show us a bit of what she's learned. We talk about possible topics and we land on "Should school officials or other adults be allowed to ban certain books from school." We talk a little more on the topic of banned books and my husband perks up and says "I think banned books should be allowed because without them, there would be no music." Then he gets this massive grin and my daughter and I are so confused.. it takes a moment for us to realize he's talking about BAND books .. there would be no music .. I had to give it to him, that was heavenly. Our daughters eyes rolled out of her head but we were all laughing. Great job, dad.
While having a bite to eat, they talk about their moonshine operation.
Suddenly, a woman at a nearby table, who is eating a sandwich, begins to cough. After a minute or so, it becomes apparent that she is in real distress. One of the hillbillies looks at her and says, 'Kin ya swallar?'
The woman shakes her head no. Then he asks, 'Kin ya breathe?'
The woman begins to turn blue, and shakes her head no.
The hillbilly walks over to the woman, lifts up her dress, yanks down her drawers, and quickly gives her right butt cheek a lick with his tongue.
The woman is so shocked that she has a violent spasm, and the obstruction flies out of her mouth. As she begins to breathe again, the Hillbilly walks slowly back to his table. His partner says, 'Ya know, I'd heerd of that there 'Hind Lick Maneuver' but I never seed nobody done it.'
We where at the table having lunch and eating the dessert, the dessert were some pre-made waffles that my mom had bought with ice cream on top, and the waffles where old and they had stayed on the freezer until we needed them, for some reason we started talking about how old the waffles where when my dad said with a semi-serious face: "theyre already from the last year" and stupid me reply with "already" to wich my dad just says that all food on the table was from a year ago and i finnaly realise it.
... he was single and treated himself to a nice evening. Next to his table sat this gorgeus woman. Red hairs, curvy body, green eyes and the most beautiful smile he has ever seen.
He thought about how he could approach her, but just couldn't figure out a good way. Suddenly she sneezed and her glass eye came flying out straight at him. He jumped up and caught it before it hit the ground. They started to talk, one thing lead to the next and they ended up at her place.
A night of sexytime followed, and the next morning he woke up to the smell of fresh toast, eggs and coffee. She awaited him in the kitchen with a great big breakfast.
"No woman has ever treated me so nice.", he said, "You are just perfect. Do you do this for every man you meet?"
"No.", she replied....
"but you just happened to catch my eye."
My mom was talking about how my dad wouldn't stop talking about her when they were dating just as he got up from the table to go to the bathroom
They brought it up because I just got my license.
Mom: "When your dad first got a car he had a girl who liked him inside first and he kept on going on and on and on about me. She found that annoying. Ask him who was the first person in his car! See if he'll lie about it!"
Me: "Dad who was the first person in your car? Mom wants to know."
Dad: "Me. Its not gonna drive its self"
Me: "Well hes not wrong mom."
Mom: "Shut up"
"Dad, are bugs good to eat?β asked the boy.
βWe don't talk about such things at the dinner table, son,β his father replied.
After dinner the father inquired, βNow, son, what did you want to ask me?β
βOh, nothing,β the boy said. βThere was a bug in your soup, but now itβs gone.β
My dad is really proud of this one. It's the only joke he's ever told that's been funny enough to make somebody laugh so hard that they spit out of their nose. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for this joke, so let me give you some context first:
He's been in a motorcycle accident (hit and run by an illegal immigrant), and had to have most of his vertebrae fused. They use titanium rods to hold your back from bending, so as you can imagine its kind of a major operation. His doctor prescribed a year (or longer if needed) of massage therapy, which he was thankful for. Twice a week he went in to a small clinic for a few hours at a time, and usually had the same masseuse. Let's call her Marge.
After four months of therapy they of course got to know each other very well. He was always faithful to my mother, but he was good friends with Marge. Their conversations range all the way from baseball to differentials, and everything stays platonic.
Here's where the story begins:
During a massage, they are having an energetic conversation, the time comes where he turns onto his back so that she can get to his knee ligaments (chainsawed his kneecap a few years prior, doc said may as well get there too). She goes at it like normal, and the conversation continues. Now here comes the part that made my dad wait to tell me this until recently: The "stimulation" in his knee for some reason, on that day out of all others, triggered a reflexive erection. There was nothing he could do to stop it.
The conversation goes quiet. Marge notices, but doesn't say a word. She remains professional. She continues working. My dad is more embarrassed than he's ever been. Several minutes of silence pass, and my dad cant take it anymore.
"Marge," he says, "I think we need to talk about the elephant in the room."
He raises his head to look down the table at her. He glances at it, then back to her. With a slight shake of his head he says:
"Wait nevermind, it's only his trunk"
So there were these two high schoolers, both madly in love. they were like the most well known couple around the school. so a couple months go by after they've began dating and they both see a flier in the hallway. it talks about the up coming school dance which is taking place next week. so naturally, the guy asks the girl to come with him. she says yes and the planing begins. he gets home that night and surfs the entire web for a relatively cheap limo company with still have decent amenities. after ordering that, he heads off to the local tailor and gets a suit made for in his girlfriends favourite colour, blue. then the week passes and he preparing to go and pick her up, so he picks up the flowers he bought her earlier that day and heads out to the now parked limo. he gets in and orders the driver to her house. he gets there and gives her the flowers. they go out for dinner at a very fancy place, him paying for everything. they both finally get to the school hall and head in to see all their friends. they have a wonderful night, dancing, having photos taken, they both really just enjoyed themselves. they even got elected prom king and queen! so the night is coming to an end and they both decide to sit down and have a rest. the girls feeling a bit thirsty so the guy heads over to the refreshments table to get her a drink. it's pretty quite there as in this joke, there isnt a punchline. ( Ν‘Β° ΝΚ Ν‘Β°)
A piece of string and his buddies go into a bar. The bartender looks up and says we donβt serve strings here, but they sit down anyway. The bartender walks over to the table and says either he can leave, or you all can leave, I donβt care, then the bartender walks away. The string says let me see if I can make this better, and he goes up to talk to the bartender with no success. And goes back to the table. He sits there for a minute thinking. The string then ties himself into a knot, and frays his end and then go back up to the bar to get drinks for the table. The bartender looks at him skeptically, and saysβ arenβt you that piece of string, and the string repliesβno, Iβm a frayed knotβ
... and there was a gorgeous redhead sitting at the next table. He had been checking her out since he sat down, but lacked the nerve to talk with her.
Suddenly she sneezed, and her glass eye came flying out of its socket towards the man. He reflexively reached out, grabbed it out of the air, and handed it back.
'Oh my, I am so sorry,' the woman said, as she popped her eye back in place. 'Let me buy your dinner to make it up to you.'
They enjoyed a wonderful dinner together, and afterwards they went to the theater followed by drinks. They talked, they laughed, she shared her deepest dreams and he shared his. She listened to him with interest.
After paying for everything, she asked him if he would like to come to her place for a nightcap and stay for breakfast. They had a wonderful, wonderful time.
The next morning, she cooked a gourmet meal with all the trimmings. The guy was amazed. Everything had been so incredible!
'You know,' he said, 'you are the perfect woman. Are you this nice to every guy you meet?'
'No,' she replies. 'You just happened to catch my eye.'
My wife and I are sitting at the dinner table, talking about our soon-to-be-born baby. She is telling me how much the baby is kicking. I said "The baby is kicking like a donkey - or is it a mule?" My wife agrees.
I say (completely straight-faced) "What is a mule's favorite novel?" My wife is stumped. "Donkey-jote."
She sits there for a couple of seconds, and says "Do me a favor: just save all those kinds of jokes for when the baby is born..."

... keep reading on reddit β‘We were sitting up at the dinner table tonight, and my sister was over too. We started talking about travelling and she mentioned about how when she went to Venice, she didn't see many of the local Venicians, just lots of tourists. Dad went on to explain to us (with a big grin on his face) the reason you don't see many venetians is because most of them are blind...
We were at the table, and my mom and dad were talking about when they were dating, and my dad says, "You know what? She's only made me 2 bad meals the entire time we've been married."
Then my little sister goes, "Yea, lunch and dinner."
We cracked up about it and we're still giggling.
For as long I can think of, anytime I would take my family out for supper at a restaurant, when our server would bring us the check I would in my best calm and collected demeanor advise our server "Oh table #?? said they were picking this up for us tonight", to which most servers just give a ya right smile or a simple haha nice try sir.
Well on this most recent adventure I see the check coming and get all primed and plot it all out. The server politely slides the check to me, I so graciously put my hand on it and slide it back with my recited lines delivered so perfectly "Oh yes I should have told you sooner that table 16 has offered to pick up the check tonight". Well our server burst out laughing, which to us was a surprise as its not as hilarious as she is now making it. Well when she finally stops laughing enough to talk, she so wonderfully delivers the message, "thats good to know sir - cause your sitting at table 16!"
Jokes on me! But it made for a great night of laugh at dad.
Edit - "demeanor" - where the frick was auto correct on that one. thx Enders!
Here are two of my dad's funniest (most memorable) moments while out to eat...
About five years ago, my ex-boyfriend and I went out for Valentine's Day with my parents. My mom and I were having a conversation about my brother's ex-fiancee when...
Ex: "Oh, so you guys don't like her?"
Dad: "No, but that's alright, we don't really like [K's] boyfriend all that much either."
Needless to say, it wasn't as funny at the time...
Then about a few months ago, with my current boyfriend, we went out to eat with some family friends. At the time, my boyfriend was employed at an A/C company doing Chinese drywall and was talking with two of the men employed in other construction trades.
Family Friend: "Don't get involved in concrete. Or Construction. Better yet, stay out of anything that begins with a C."
Dad (from the other side of the table): "You better stay out of anything that starts with a K, too."
It's even more ironic considering I happen to have one of those names that's commonly spelled with a C, but my parents decided to spell with a K. But as mortified as my boyfriend was, I have to give it to my dad, that one was pretty damn funny.
I was talking about school with my kids at the dinner table. My son is learning about astronomy in science class.
Me: "Have you learned what a light year is?"
Son: "Yes, it's the distance light travels in 1 year."
Me: "Nope. It's 365 consecutive days when you don't have a lot going on."
My wife threatened divorce, so I know it was a good one.
A Jelly Baby walks into a bar and starts talking to a Smartie. After a few beers the Smartie says "Ere, a bunch of us are heading to that new club, fancy tagging along?" The Jelly Baby says "No mate, I'm a soft centre, I always end up getting my head kicked in. "So?" Smartie says. "Don't worry about it, I'm a bit of a hard case, I'll look after you." Jelly Baby thinks about it for a minute and says "Fair enough, as long as you'll look after me", and off they go. After a few beers in the club, three Lockets walk in. As soon as he sees them, Smartie hides under the table. The Lockets take one look at jelly Baby and start kicking him, breaking cola bottles over his little jelly head, hitting him with little sugary chairs, and generally having a laugh. After a while they get bored and walk out. Jelly Baby pulls his battered Jelly Baby body over to the table and wipes up his Jelly Baby blood. He turns to Smartie and says "I thought you were going to look after me?" "I was!" says Smartie, "But those Lockets are fucking menthol".
...but whenever he does say something, it's usually good. So this happened during a post-dinner talk around the table.
Background: My sister used to run track at college level and currently works with the elderly. She's also lactose intolerant.
Sister: "Since the medication Alzheimer patients take usually causes constipation, if I grow old and get Alzheimers, don't waste money on laxatives, just give me some milk."
Dad: "That'll get you running again."
I was reading the top posts at a table in front of a fire when a elderly lady asked to sit at the table to be near the fire. I said of course, we had some small talk. Then she made the weird comment.
Lady: The fire is so warm it feels like my pants might catch fire.
Me: You'll be fine, as long as you don't lie.
I normally would never make such a joke but I caught the dad joke bug from this subreddit...
Sitting around the table with a group of people when my friend starts talking about his mom's work:
Friend - "My mom has been at children's hospital for about 26 years." Me - "oh my god, what happened to her?!"
Blank stares that I hoped were the precursor to laughter. They weren't.
We were sitting around the dinner table talking about buying some trees to plant in the lawn this fall.
Dad says: "We need some thug trees."
We all give him a puzzled look and ask what on earth he means by that.
His reply: "I hear they're very shady."
I was sitting in his seat talking to my mother/grandparents for a bit when an idea hit me. So after some brief set up, I went searching for dad.
Me: I really like the small touches they added, like the personalised messages on the table placements
Dad: What?
Me: You know, the name tag to show where people are sitting
Dad: Yeah, I know what you're talking about, but there's no message on them.
Me: Yes there is! It's on the inside of them, just have to flip them over to read it
Dad: I'm telling you, there's no message on them!
Me: I absolutely guarantee that there is a personalised message written on your name tag!!
So, determined to prove me wrong we go inside to his table and he flips over his name tag to find, in my handwriting, "told you so".
So we're on our way back from getting lunch and the girl coworker that was driving said she may have forgotten to put deodorant on in the morning. There was a bottle of 'Secret' brand deodorant in her car that she grabbed before heading back into the office.
Later on at the lunch table, we were talking about rumors and secrets.
She said "there are secrets everywhere!"
I said "Not under your arms there isn't!"
We all chuckled.
My dad likes to toss things in the house. Ask him for a soda? Catch! Need mayo on your sandwich? Heads up! You get the idea.
Last night the family was in a rush to get dinner on the table, so needless to say food was flying. My younger brother was at the table catching things and putting them on the table while my dad stood at the fridge throwin' shit. I guess my dad threw the barbecue sauce to early because my brother wasn't ready and it made impact right in the family jewels.
Brother (on the floor): Dad, you got me right in the balls!
Dad: Oh I did?
Bro is now doing that thing where you're in pain and you're talking while gritting your teeth/ holding your breath.
Brother: Yes! The barbecue sauce. Right on the dick.
Dad: Well which was it, did I hit your balls or your dick?
Brother: Same difference!!
Dad: No no no, there's a vas deferens between the two.
Me: God damnit dad, that's perfect. I'm using that.
So here I am, using it.
So this was a couple days ago. It was my dad, my mom, and me at the dinner table talking about the stock market. My dad pulls around to how he owns some shares of the MJNA stock (medical marijuana) and how pumped he is that has been going up. All of a sudden, his face brightens and he exclaims "it's at an all time high!"
Well played dad, well played.
At the dining room table, younger sister is talking about her intro to Spanish class and I passively mention "I was never really good at rolling my r's."
Right after I say this, my stepdad begins sliding in a circle in his chair. When I finally say "What are you doing!?" he responds:
"I'm rolling my arse."
My family was sitting around the table eating lunch and talking about how it's almost impossible to have true vacation time anymore. My grandma chucks in, "Your time is valuable." My dad immediately replies:
"Thyme is actually pretty inexpensive. Saffron, on the other hand, is quite valuable."
I love my dad.
I was sitting at the dinner table talking to him, and he asked me about my bunk at the camp I'm work at, I told him that there were 2 shadows for some of the campers, he responded, "When you go into the room, you brighten up the room, and all the shadows go away".
Was at food truck event this evening. After getting our food we sat at a table with a couple we meet while in line. My wife and the other lady were talking. The lady asks my wife a question but she had just taken a bite of grilled octopus. I know the answer so I chime in. I then apologize for my wife stating she was pre-octo-pied and could not answer for herself.
βDad, are bugs good to eat?β asked the boy.
βLetβs not talk about such things at the dinner table, son,β his father replied.
After dinner, the father inquired, βNow, son, what did you want to ask me?β
βOh, nothing,β the boy said. βThere was a bug in your soup, but now itβs gone.β
