A list of puns related to "Strangers to Ourselves"
Honestly there wasn't a single song on there I didn't enjoy.
I gotta say, after listening to it 3 or 4 times in a row, the Best Room might be one of my new favorites.
I also love Sugarboats, honestly every song is pretty great.
Well, besides Pistol, which even isn't as bad as everyone made it out to be.
What are yalls opinion on their latest album?
(Even the new one sounds so cool already, Ice Cream Party reminds me almost of something like Talking Shit.)
Edit* somehow just heard Devil's Workday for the first time. That was fucking awesome

So; I'll preface by saying I initially didn't really like this album much at all. (seems to be a common trend.) However, over time i would sometimes listen to it more and it's slowly grown to be one of my favorite albums. It's a standout album, and while its a slight departure in sound from their previous albums, it's still very much a Modest Mouse album and I think it deserves much more credit than it seems to get. The songs are all layered and complex with that iconic Modest Mouse aesthetic (what's Pistol?). I also think some of Isaac's best vocal work is featured in this album and is integral to many of the tracks, often creating Whale Song-esque soundscapes, such as the latter half of Shit In Your Cut.
I also have to point out that the drumwork is absolutely top-notch and I think is exceptionally masterfully done. The guitarwork is still iconic and very 'Modest Mousey', however for the most part takes a backseat to the vocals and drums, which tend to carry most of the songs. This isn't to say that the guitarwork on the album is lackluster! In fact, some songs feature the most engaging and fun guitar riffs in their discography! The sleazy, moaning guitar wails around the breakdown in Be Brave are one of my personal favorite moments from the album. I do have to take a moment to again say how much i love the lyrics on this album. Some have said they find it a bit too gloomy or depressing, which i can understand that; however you can't refute that some of the best lyricism and vocal delivery is on this album.
All in all, it's weird. It's powerful. It's beautiful. It's unique. It doesn't compare to the glory days of The Moon & Antarctica, however all bands grow and change, and i'm absolutely excited to see where Modest Mouse goes from here, and the generally poor reception of Strangers To Ourselves always kind of confused me, because I'd argue it's one of the most impressive and original albums they've produced. It's diverse in tone, thematically consistent, has a strong message, and some gorgeous musical arrangements, some bordering on being orchestral. If you don't think much of it or never gave it a solid listen; I think you should give it another chance! It's a solid album.
You guys' got opinions?
There are so many genius songs here. I don't know about everyone else, but I see a lot of people latch on to Lampshades On Fire as the premier song of the album. But Coyotes, Sugarboats and Ground Walks, off the top of my head, highlight Isaac's best work on this album, both lyrically and vocally.
After re-listening to this album for the last couple weeks, I've come to appreciate it a lot more than when it was first released. Now to me its still arguably their weakest studio effort, but it still has some brilliant songwriting throughout it although it can be quite inconsistent in parts.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what direction Issac and the boys are gonna go with their new album
Welcome back /r/ModestMouse!! Today, we're saying adios to Be Brave!! Just remember that earth doesn't care and we hardly even matter when you ask why The Killers' Wicked Campaign is still here (should be out soon but who's to say)
Vote here for bravery

Not my favorite record but it's the only MM album I don't have. I could just get one on discogs I suppose but I like the community here so I figure I'd try r/vinylcollectors first. Offering 20$ shipped (US) as long as it's in decent shape. Thanks!
We're lucky that
We're lucky that we slept
Didn't seem like we realized we'd be stuck in traffic
We're lucky that we slept
Not to be confused the points from the purpose
We're lucky that we're so capable to forget
How lucky we are, that we are, so easy to forget
How often we become susceptible to regret
I do regret
How often we are confused
How honestly we have tried
But we'll forget
We have designed more unusual things as yet
How often we are confused
How honestly we have tried
But will forget
We'll forget
Can't get over how much I love this song. I think it's a brilliant way to open the album. STO is all about our disconnect to nature and the universe. How we isolate ourselves from everything but our own misguided human nature; we live to satisfy ourselves and don't see anything past that. To reflect that, it's somber and pitying.
I think Isaac uses "lucky" in a certain dualistic manner. One way is sarcasm, where he is shaking his head and pitying mankind, "Man, how lucky mankind is to forget what they are." But I also see it is as bittersweet. It's good that we can face turmoil and trouble and death and terror but keep moving on, keep living. We're lucky we can forget. But also sad, that maybe Isaac is slamming his fists into the ground, upset, that we so easily forget the terrible things that happen to us. That we can all just pretend we don't do horrible things to this planet and to each other. Or maybe upset that he involuntarily forgets people he used to know, or moments he shared with them. Very open to interpretation.
It's also continued later on, "How honestly we've tried but we'll forget." Like, no matter how hard we try, how far we get into space or how big we build civilization, we'll forget our past, others will forget us. The universe will forget us. Or maybe 'forget' could mean 'die'.
Furthermore; the line "I do regret" really sticks out to me. Isaac is singing with a sort of 3rd person POV, pitying mankind, but then has this moment, where he's saddened or upset about the nature of regret, and kind of turns to the listener and admits himself, "I do regret" and it sounds so real, that he realizes he's apart of it too.
I'm not even gonna try to rate these songs on a 1-10 kind of scale, I don't believe in that. It's one of my favorite on the album and I find myself coming back to it with Modest Mouse overall. First track named after an album itself by the way. Oh, and people try re-ord

Remember how long you've been putting this off, how many extensions the gods gave you, and you didn't use them. At some point you have to recognise what world it is that you belong to; what power rules it and from what source you spring; that there is a limit to the time assigned you, and if you don't use it to free yourself it will be gone and never return.

And I do appreciate the irony of talking about ending procrastination whilst posting on Reddit!
Don't get me wrong, Michael Saylor and his company are the best thing to happen to Bitcoin in a long time. They did what those like myself who've been in this space for nearly a decade now did not expect to happen for at least another 5 years at best. Specifically, making Bitcoin their main treasury reserve asset. This is going to lead an example that will encourage other businesses to do the same. This is good for Bitcoin, but for all the little guys hype buying everything else right now but Bitcoin? It's very bad for them. They will miss the boat having sunk their fortunes into everything else they could have, while the largest rocket ship of their lifetime was just fueling up to take off.
I know those of you who have been here as long as me often think "Screw the idiots then if they're too dumb to buy Bitcoin at these prices", or "People pay the price they deserve". But we came to Bitcoin because we know it is a better financial system, and people need it so they can escape the shitty financial systems we all ran away from. I know many of you old dogs like me want these dips to last as long as they possibly can, especially now that we can see that the institutional adoption road is finally being built, and that having the little guys ignore it for everything else is the best thing to keep this dip going as long as it can. I contemplated making this post myself. You think I want the price to run away? Hell no. I'm throwing in almost 50k a month from rental properties my earlier Bitcoin's bought me throughout the years. But we came in here because we know it's the better money, and we know we need to get the little guys in as much as we can while it's still cheap. And this whole reddit financial momentum is just the thing to bring the masses in.
For those who don't know, MicroStrategy is hosting a summit next week for institutional investors to learn about Bitcoin. Most old dogs in here already know what is going to happen. We've been keeping our mouths shut so we can buy this cheap Bitcoin longer. But most people out there aren't getting it. They're getting all the other reddit hype buys, ignoring where the big institutional money is going, and has been going for some time now. What will most likely happen if most people keep ignoring Bitcoin is that institutional guys will keep buying into Bitcoin more than they are in any other sectors, while integrating it into their businesses to inherit it's value, and add usage value to it at the same time. A

Article by the SLAM:
Russell Westbrook took exception to a young Nuggets fan making contact with him in the third quarter of Tuesday nightβs game.
Westbrook briefly chatted with the boy and his father who were seated courtside, and told reporters that fans are given far too much leeway with players.
> βHe hit me,β Westbrook said, βSo I told his dad, βbe careful, man, you canβt have your son just hitting random people. I donβt know him, he donβt know me. So, just letting him know, βYouβve just got to control your kids.ββ
>At the end of the conversation, Westbrook gave the young fan a reassuring pat on the leg. Westbrook said at first he didnβt know who had touched him. He just felt contact.
>βFor all fans though, thereβs too much leeway for the fans to be able to touch the players and get away with it, and then you canβt react and do the things that we need to do to protect ourselves. β¦ But I canβt do nothing. What am I going to do, hop in the stands? But there has to be some type of rule or some type of boundaries set that you canβt allow that.β
We downvoted everyone who said it was bastion and started throwing out stuff like Ghally.
I hate to be "that guy" though.
As devils advocate though I feel if it wasn't on the roadmap it'd be much nicer result
Edit1: yes, thousands of people did amazing things, we all did. And yes I believe we deserve a Ghally sword that uses primary ammo. But man we really rubbed salt in our own wound a bit
Edit2: i get a lot of us are mad. But we need to calm down and cut the toxicity between each other and bungie. It only salts things more than they need to be.
Edit 3: people seem to share the same opinion. This would be much better received without us knowing about bastion. Please remember not to flame bungie. They will never do a huge community event if all we do is ridicule them
He slams the door and returns to bed.
"Who was that?" asked his wife.
"Just some drunk guy asking for a push." he answers.
"Did you help him?" she asks.
"No, I did not! It's three in the morning and it's pouring out!"
"Well, you have a short memory." says his wife. "Can't you remember about three months ago when we broke down and those two guys helped us? I think you should help him and you should be ashamed of yourself!"
The man does as he is told, gets dressed, and goes out into the pounding rain.
He calls out into the dark, "Hello, are you still there?"
"Yes." comes back the answer.
"Do you still need a push?" calls out the husband.
"Yes, please!" comes the reply from the dark.
"Where are you?" asks the husband.
"Over here, on the swing."
We are lucky. 25m people. No land borders. Heaps of food and resources. We can easily make do for a few months. As usual we are half baked, and reactive not proactive. Asian countries have taken this seriously. Why canβt we? If we have gone off to early, itβll feel far better than leaving it too late... Letβs close up shop and work together ourselves now Scotty...
