City was unhappy with the funding arrangement and wanted compensation for the whole response package (ie. all the auxillary rigs). Good for this guy getting out of a job that probably sucked.
What an impossible situation, hired to be responsible for a vast land and fire protection, have crumbs for funding and a lack of member support (to be realistic how many volunteers can you expect or count on when you are responsible for such a huge area) You need big bucks to keep trucks and crews working and engaged.
