I've seen several reports from various non-American sources over the past few months, theorizing that America will likely be a dictatorship starting between 2025 and 2030. What exactly would that look like? How will we know when we're in one?

I guess I'm still in "it can't happen here" mode. When I think of "dictatorship" I think nobody has the right to vote, leaders are installed by other leaders, nobody can own personal property (i.e. homes, cars, bicycles, firearms, telephones, etc), and the nation is perpetually in a state of martial law.

Thing is, I can't see any way anyone could enforce those things, except for potentially the voting being restricted by gerrymandering. I can't see the US Army going from house to house and telling people they can't have cars or trucks or iPhones anymore. I can't see the government coming in and seizing everyone's homes without some serious armed conflict. The tech giants who run the economy don't seem to care one way or another what the government is doing because they're above the law and could probably buy out the military at this point, and the vast majority of them support free speech and the right to bear arms because they're libertarian capitalists. The FBI and NSA asked a bunch of tech companies for ways to get around their encryption, and the response from the tech companies was (heavily paraphrased) "fuck off, I don't answer to you".

How would a dictatorship even begin in the US? We're all hyper-individualists.

Basically starting my life over tomorrow

My SO broke up with me on January 1st. We have a little girl, a bright shining meteor 3 year old. I had nothing saved. Left with the clothes out of my dresser, my computer, my Xbox, and my phone. I make around $2000 a month off DoorDash. So first thing I did was set up at a motel and just kept working. After 21 days I've found a cheap trailer 10-15 minutes from my old home to move into. Been spending most of my money on the motel room and food, so this will help me start actually saving. Realizing tonight that I'd just put all of my eggs in one basket, never worked on myself and just focused on my girls. Tomorrow I'm moving into my new home and tonight I'm realizing I'm starting over. I'm 32, I haven't dated in 10+ years, haven't been alone like this. I love my daughter and will stay in her life. But tomorrow is going to be so different.

God damn. Life is wild.

I’m (28) basically starting over… help

So long story short I’ve been having a mental health episode for the past nine months and didn’t realize how much debt I had accumulated and bills I was ignoring.

I’m currently preparing my house for sale and stand to make ~$40k with about $10k coming from taxes and my yearly bonus. I have around $24k in my 401 with my job that I’m planning to leave and have a loan out on the 401, so no clue what to do about that. I only have about $4500 in CC debt, so that will be paid quickly and in lump sum (unless I shouldn’t do that?) I also have a pension through the company and have no idea if I stand to keep any of that when I leave.

My credit is a 605 right now, so I need time to rebuild and repair before I even consider buying a place.

I currently make $3100 a month and I’m spending about $1100 on mortgage and utilities right now. My car is $319 a month, insurance is $120. I am willing to cut out any other expenses to get my bank account to a place where I’m comfortable again.

My head is just a mess right now and I need help with creating a new budget, figuring out how to invest this money (I’d like to RE if I can play my cards right). I’m just now starting to actually learn about financial independence, investing, IRAs, etc and I’m really lost.

Sorry if this was a bit ranty, and TIA for any advice.

Update: I don’t have the option of keeping my house. My relationship is ending and we own it together. He needs his half of the equity to get a new place and my credit score isn’t high enough right now to be approved for a refinance.

i was already over 1 year on fin before starting with the oral minoxidil - so this is 4 month progress with 5 mg oral minoxidil every day

First pic: The beginning. Second pic: two month after. third pic: some days ago (4 month after). had the same light in my room on the 2nd and 3rd picture.

Still 4 months so will use oral minoxidil 1 year and reassess after that. Pretty happy at the moment tho, since I got a compliment from a friend that my hair looks better hehe. But i have still a long way to fight back from the diffuse norwood 5. The struggle is real sadly
