A list of puns related to "Soused (album)"
When I was first learning of this project and reading about it, I think I recall Scott saying he thought it may have been his best work. I found that a little strange but you know what? It's fucking perfect. The magnificent drone of Sunn O))) being traded in for his characteristic space and silence really grounds his writing and gives his vocals a great wave to ride. His lyrics throughout hit a point of simultaneous clarity and surrealism that I think represents a height in his later writing. As a vocalist, he really sounds at the top of his powers to me (coming from someone who adores the sound of the older Scott). I also think the presence of Sunn O))) caused Scott to rein in his own sounds a little bit, to very focusing and exacting effect. I can't really say it's any better than his other later works, but for my taste it's a very very high point for both artists. Also, I wonder how the relatively very brief period he wrote it in influenced the form it took.

Ok, so my husband and I are mid40s, and ready to try our first booze.

Thanks in advance for any and all advice to first timers who want to experience alcohol without a hangover
A man comes in and asks him "Hey, why are you sitting here on this beautiful day getting drunk?"
Farmer: "Some things you just can't explain."
Man: "So what happened that's so horrible?"
Farmer: "Well, today I was sitting by my cow milking her. Just as I got the bucket about full, she took her left leg and kicked over the bucket. Some things you just can't explain."
Man: "Okay, but that's not so bad."
Man: "So what happened then?"
Farmer: "I took her left leg and tied it to the post on the left."
Man: "And then?"
Farmer: "Well, I sat back down and continued to milk her. Just as I got the bucket about full, she took her right leg and kicked over the bucket. Some things you just can't explain."
Man: "So, what did you do then?"
Farmer: "I took her right leg this time and tied it to the post on the right. I sat back down and began milking her again. Just as I got the bucket about full, the stupid cow knocked over the bucket with her tail. Some things you just can't explain."
Man: "So, what did you do?"
Farmer: "Well, I didn't have any more rope, so I took off my belt and tied her tail to the rafter. In that moment, my pants fell down and my wife walked in. Some things you just can't explain!"
Right then, has anyone actually tried this dish or any of the other dishes of the era (figgy dowdy etc) which have sadly disappeared from the menu?
Nearest I've got is spotted dick which is more or less spotted dog.
Let me know mates.
Soused is the new collaboration between experimental music giants Scott Walker and Sunn O))). Although their aesthetics are fairly different and the announcement of the collaboration was somewhat left-field (especially considering how close this is to Walker's last release), hearing that the two of them were collaboration seemed way more natural than the other example of this sort of thing it keeps getting compared to, Lulu. And upon listening to it, it sounds pretty much exactly like you would expect a collaboration between these two to sound like.
The album's sound is built on a pallet of loud, distorted, droning guitars, but augmented by a slew of effects and additional instumentation akin to the kind of stuff heard on Bish Bosch. Because of this additional instrumentation and the strength of Scott's voice, it sounds like Sunn O)))'s playing second fiddle through a good chunk of this album, although, considering the experimentation they did with additional instrumentation on Monoliths & Dimensions, I wouldn't be surprised if the band had a larger hand in the arrangements than seems initially obvious.
My impression of it after a couple of listens is that it's good, but a little one sided. I love the textural depth and more focused arrangements after the schizophrenic sound of Bish Bosch; there are even moments, like on Bull, where I would call the album catchy. Sunn O))) seems to ground the album in their drone/doom aesthetic, which is great; however, I was perhaps a little disappointed that they seemed to be taking more of a diminutive role, especially because their normally monolithic guitar sound seemed restrained, something that I feel like they've avoided in past forays into including vocalists or thick instrumentation. But I also wonder if amping up their sound would have clashed with the other sounds on the album.
So: What did you think of the album? And more generally, how do you feel about these kind of one-off collaborative efforts? I feel like the Pitchfork review of the album made an interesting point in noting that this would be an interesting pair to see develop in the future, but as is doesn't really feel complete yet, which I can agree with to an extent. Sunn O)))'s previous collaborations with with other artists have usually been highly compelling in theory (and even sometimes in practice), but there are moments on albums like Altar or Terrestrials or St. Francis Duo (which is Stephen O'Malley and free-jazz drummer Steve Noble)

I noticed Scott's use of binaural beats before (I think it's been called the "Binding Sound" by some of his fellow studio musicians,) not sure if the rest of this is real or a hoax. I could see him or perhaps Sunn O))) possibly having a little mischief within the darkness, but there's no way for me to find out for sure. Scott Walker Embeds Hidden Images in "Soused"
