I was reflecting on the two outbreaks which are by far the most significant COVID outbreaks in Australia to date - Victoria's second wave and the present outbreak in NSW.
I know there has been a lot of discussion on this sub about similarities and differences between the two. What was done differently, what would have worked, how the new variant changes the game, etc. But in all that discussion one important connection has been missed.
As a Victorian who spent much of last year glued to the daily case updates on here, which were capable of either making me hang my head in despair or shout with glee, I became very familiar with a particular name.
That name is /u/Stoaticor.
/u/Stoaticor, despite not being a Vic resident, was with us in spirit throughout that long lockdown. If there is ever a campaign medal issued for the Second Wave, /u/Stoaticor will definitely be in the frame.
Back in those days, the NSW daily case updates were generally posted by /u/Fumblepony or sometimes /u/Pretty_iin_Pink. Not that they garnered much attention, because NSW did a great job of stamping out the spotfires and keeping their own case numbers low.
But recently all that changed.
Based on my research, it appears that approximately one month ago, on 9 July, /u/Stoaticor took over primary responsibility for NSW daily case updates. The relevant post can be seen here, and as you can see there were 44 new cases in NSW on that day. Not a great result, but a result NSW had seen before, and dealt with before.
But since that fateful day, case numbers in NSW have followed the trajectory seen here.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting that, rather than just reporting on the two largest COVID outbreaks in Australia, /u/Stoaticor is directly responsible for causing those outbreaks.

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
