A list of puns related to "Sioux Falls Regional Airport"
For anyone that doesn't know, the Watertown, SD regional airport (about 1.5 hours north of Sioux Falls' airport) has commercial air service.
Most non holiday season flights are less than 60% full. Ticket prices are also typically cheaper than Sioux Falls. Both short and long term parking also free.
Currently the terminal is tiny, only seating about 50 people in the entire building and has no jetbridges so you have to outside on the ramp, exposed to the elements, to board. The airport doesn't have a restaurant in the terminal or within a few miles. The closest "food" is a gas station about 2/3 of a mile away. They are currently constructing a brand new terminal with a jetbridge and restaurant.
Currently it's serviced by Denver Air Connection and their baggage does interline with United.
I'll be there around 9:30 or so. Plane leaves at 11:52 am
For some reason, the team thought it would be a good idea for to get school teachers to be on their knees trying to collect as much money as possible on the ice to fund school supplies. 10 Teachers were given 5 minutes to grab as much as many 1 dollar bills as possible
A quote from the Sioux Falls Argus Leader from Business Director Ryan Knudson said :
> "With everything that has gone on for the last couple of years with teachers and everything, we thought it was an awesome group thing to do for the teachers." "The teachers in this area, and any teacher, they deserve whatever the heck they get."
Also from the article : "South Dakotan teachers earned an average of $49,000 in 2020, according toΒ South Dakota News Watch. The state ranks 49th in teacher salary in the United States."
South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem has been criticized for her attacks on public education, with her having called for removing teaching of Native American Genocide and Social Studies in schools.
Regardless of politics, it's disturbing to see teachers having to fight one another to help fund their students education for entertainment instead of the South Dakota Government actually funding in schooling, instead turning the financial burden of teachers having to pay for their own school supplies into a game for fun.

I recently got a job offer to Sioux Falls. Almost everything about the position I like, however, I'm not sure whether to take it or not because I've never been to the city and browsing this sub there seems to be a lot of mixed opinions. So here I am making a post hoping to get some more perspective.
About me -- 25 year old Korean American woman, love hiking and outdoors sports (rock climbing, running, skiing, etc), have a small dog, grew up in a very culturally diverse bubble of the Midwest
My concerns --
If you've read this far thank you! I appreciate any input you may have :)
Nothing happened
Hi, I am an international student studying at the University of South Dakota. I would like to know if there are any Indian restaurants in Sioux Falls.
I hear SF population is going to double in the next 5 years. Is that remotely true? If so, what is the reason for the explosion? I am looking to move there for zero state tax. As a remote worker, thatβs my reason but curious why else the population would double in 5 years.
Edit: you skeptics are probably right. Seems like SF growth rate was 20+% from 2010-2020 (census). Seems like that could continue +/- 10% for the next 10 years. Doubling in 5 seems improbable.
If you are one of our recent transplants, just take it easy today. Don't be in a rush and enjoy life a bit slower. Stay warm and safe out there!
Now drop some pictures or start the ritual complaints about our snow removal service. How long till we get an upset someone at the snowgates?
This is for all the people asking what itβs like to live here. I honestly didnβt know this place existed before about a year and a half ago and I moved after one week of searching for a home. Iβm from the north east and was living in the deep south for about a decade so the Midwest and South Dakota were not on my radar at all. I feel like I have a good perspective as I have lived in a handful of other states so here we go.
The city itself is beautiful and historic in a way that you donβt expect. The art and parks here are for a city itβs size second to none. So many cities have sprawled out and neglected to maintain green space or a small town feel but somehow Sioux Falls has done that while also developing an amazing food scene. This unfortunately does not apply to the developing areas which are 110% parking lot sprawl. That being said I dont have to travel 3+ hours to a major city because somehow what I need is here but also only 10 minutes away.
The downtown is incredibly picturesque especially when it snows. Itβs like looking into a nostalgic film from the past somehow. The community putting up lights and developing new areas is honestly unheard of in many places. They could work on the streets away from the river a bit more as Main feels quite dead. Also I have never lived in a place where you have to fix the sidewalk.
The sense of community is great while you honestly donβt need to know people to see it working. The development at Falls Park, the Zoo, and new artwork appearing all the time is a testament to this. It seems like people love the city and want it to thrive.
The food scene is amazing compared to other cities this size. While the city lacks a signature food style it makes up for it with delicious options at the low and high end. From Morries to Watecha Bowl to Pizza Cheeks there are a ton of quality options all at different price points. While chains are prolific there seems to be an equal number of local places.
There are constantly events largely free that are actually worth going to. Riverfest, The Parade of Lights, and Levitt at the Falls provide a great atmosphere for anyone. There are also plenty of theatrical performances and random concerts as well as every type of sports team.
The economy is solid and while there are always issues many of them seem to be at the state level like teacher pay and culture war stuff. I have yet to be accosted in the streets for my views and parts of the town are accepting if not fairly progressiv
