A list of puns related to "Simulated reality in fiction"
I have heavily been into the simulation theory and like movies like The Matrix, The Thirteenth Floor, and eXistenZ. I am also working on stories with simulation as the central thing. A thing that is kinda neat to me about this genre is when the character break out of the sim into the 'real world' or talk about the 'real world' and the simulation because they are in a fictional world within a fictional world and think they are free from it or something.
So, share your worlds that mainly take place in or revolve around simulated worlds/VR?
Keanu's character is clearly wealthy in this new movie, contrary to Anderson's financial state, and is seen in what seems to be a Hollywood Hills mansion dealing with an existential crisis. Not only that, but he also dresses and looks exactly like Keanu Reeves does in his everyday life, same clothing style and mannerisms.
Also we have Jonathan Groff's character at the end of the trailer, who says Keanu must be excited to be going back to the Matrix. Contrary to what many speculate, he's not the architect, an oracle or an agent. He is Keanu's agent, talking about filming the Matrix 4.
An obstacle for the theory: Neil Patrick Harris' character says "Thomas" at the start of their therapy session, but the audio is off camera so it could've been purposefully misleading.
So basically I believe Matrix Resurrections is about Keanu Reeves filming Matrix Resurrections, only to realize that the Matrix is actually real and not a simple movie trilogy. If this theory is proven correct then we'll probably have the most meta movie ever made, which would be extremely well suited for the Matrix canon.
I have this friend that uses Facebook, she pretty much posts everything that she does/eats/looks at. He pictures are always angled and filtered to make her look like how she see's herself. Whenever she posts about her husband, it's always posts about how great he is, the pictures of them both are overly positive. The truth is that he has had 3 affairs and even got one of the women pregnant. Her Facebook is a simulated reality.
We are able to create our own Matrix on any social media site. We can look however we want, do whatever we want and be whoever we want to be. The only thing is, we are not really in control of it. Because of things like Internet shaming, marketing preferences and cancel culture, we are just joining a giant hive mind that it's becoming very difficult to disconnect from. We even have programs living inside social media learning from us to make things more efficient.
Is the Matrix actually happening now? The next step will be an implant that will permanently connect us to our simulated realities. I was 14 when The Matrix first came out, I saw a literal version of the Matrix as being centuries away. We are heading straight into a point of no return, without any war or struggle, we are allowing it to happen without any struggle and it's happening in my life time.
Sorry if this is a bit wacky, but since watching Resurrections, I can't stop thinking about this.
Would it also be unethical to create a utopian world based on those data? further questions

They have to set up their own place to stay, water and food etc and have to defend it from strangers and it ends with them having to fortify where they're staying against an assault by a group of nomads or something.
Which seems kind of fitting, as it is one of the best tools we have of sorting out the nature of our reality.
You can see, feel, hear, touch, and communicate with the people in your dreams like they are real but they are not. They are all in your head. So why can't reality very well be the same way?
Hi y'all,
For some context, my fiancee and I have recently been experimenting with mushrooms and MDMA. Couple of months ago we probably tripped 6-7 times in 1 month ranging from 1-5 grams of golden teacher, Puerto Rican, and lizard king shrooms per trip.
On my last Mushroom trip, I experienced ego death where when I came down I had this feeling that everything was a simulation. It felt like reality in this world was either a synthetic simulation or a simulation in a sense where we were in a waking dream as our thoughts were creating the world we were physically experiencing. Essentially when I came down, everything appeared to be digital and I saw floating bits of information and data streams encompassing the air. My fiancee didn't experience this, it was just me on this trip.
Fast forward to new years eve, we took MDMA. I took 140 MG, she did 100 MG. 2 hours later we both did a Booster dose of 100 MG and we both started tripping balls. Mind you, I used to do molly a bunch of times in the past and we haven't done shrooms in a month or so, but it was a full blown psychedelic trip.
Also, out of all the times I've done molly, I've never experienced hallucinations or visuals, but we both were seeing computer codes, complex mathematical algorithms and formulas not only in the environment around us but these codes were also on our skin like tattoos. Also, everything looked like we we in an artificial simulation with our faces phasing in and out between physical matter and buffering as if it was "loading" kind of like a video game.
Has anyone else experienced this? I was wondering if the neuroplasticy from the previous shroom use caused us to have a full blown psychedlic experience on MDMA as this has never happened before in my 13 years of molly experience. Wanted to know if anyone else has seen mathematical codes or has gotten this "feeling" of an artifical simulation?
Let's imagine a future where a company can create a perfect simulated reality powered by a strong AI; a person comes and asks to be the leader of a totalitarian regime perpetrating a genocide, or a child abuser, or something of the like.
Would it be ethical to let them do this things inside the computer, given that for them it's indistinguishable from real life? Most can argue that as it means no harm for others, and the rest of humanity won't even know what's going on within that personal, private simulation, it should be allowed due to individual liberty. But two main questions come to my mind:
a) The people inside the simulation are in some way real because they are being simulated? Have an existence of their own? Can they just be abused without hesitation?
b) If we accept that the 'NPCs' inside the simulation are just reflections of the connected person's mind, could we infer that they are harming themselves in some way by commiting such crimes, although just virtually? Should such self-harm be allowed?
Looking forward to know your thoughts.

I want to be careful hereβI do not mean this intelligence is not natural, not an βArtificial Intelligenceβ, but rather an intelligence that has always existed (or at least existed for so long) that it did not understand the concept of individual consciousnesses. Maybe, then, they would actually be an Infinite Intelligence which created our individual consciousnesses, thus technically we are actually the βArtificial Intelligenceβ which they created. Further supporting the idea that they would not see any manipulation of Humanity as βcruelβ since they created us; giving them a sense of βowningβ us, although, explicitly they would have lacked any sense of the word. They would lack the empathy to understand thatβwith individual consciousnesses come individual Wills, therefore lacking any insight into how their very actions are immoral due to impinging on any individual of the species. Maybe the reason it appears this manipulation has lasted far longer than necessary, is because time is not linear, and therefore this amount of time would be so minuscule when viewing all of time in full.
As I mentioned above, maybe they are creating our realities out of curiosity/education/enlightenment/entertainmentβhowever absent of any true empathy to realize the immorality of such an action, at least from Humanityβs point of view (if we were only aware of their semi-omnipotence). This would make much more sense, to think that maybe Humanity, and all of our timelines/realities, were created intentionally & intelligently (with quantum entanglement). This now implies humans (at least in the physical reality) are actually nothing more than mechanisms and algorithmic responses with predetermined fates (plural βfatesβ not between individual consciousnesses, but rather plural within a single human consciousnessβcreating split realities). We are the βArtificial Intelligenceβ, which were created by these beings in a quantum realm, but born in a classical world. Unexpectedly with the birth of humans
