##Biography
Though Dyre Den had long dominated the affairs of Crackclaw Point, it was not until Lord Darklyn’s invasion that their hegemony was formalized. Faced with the threat of conquest, the lords of Crackclaw recognized Lord Edric Brune as the Defender of the Claw. While each house formally remained independent, all agreed to follow Dyre Den’s lead in matters of war.
The clawmen prevailed, and the war ended with Lord Brune accepting his would-be conqueror as an ally. A few years later he fulfilled the terms of their alliance by aiding Duskendale in its defense against the invading Durrandons. The battle was won, but not before Edric Brune was mortally wounded.
Under the rule of the late Lord Brune’s successor, Crackclaw Point enjoyed peace and stagnation, no longer threatened by outside aggression. Most houses kept to their own affairs, and those that did not were usually allowed to settle their disputes on their own terms.
His son and heir, Bartimos, offered a more ambitious vision for Crackclaw Point, one in which all its lords would closely cooperate to enrich their impoverished swamps. He found like-minded allies in the family of his wife, Elenda Pyne.
Barbrey Brune was born Bartimos’ eldest in 80 AC. Three years later, she was joined by her sister, Edyth, whose birth took the life of their mother. Aggrieved, Bartimos refused to remarry, despite the insistence of his father. While still recognizing his firstborn as his heir, Lord Osric Brune maintained that only a man could rule Dyre Den, and that Bartimos’ brothers would succeed him should he fail to produce a son.
But Osric Brune did not live long enough to enforce this will. In 86 AC, Bartimos Brune succeeded his father and began ruling on his own terms. He had both of his daughters receive an education fit for a
