The unspoken problem of pumping raw sewage waste from boat holding tanks into our oceans/lakes and rivers

Hello to whom this may interest,

Survey link : https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/38BJSNV

I have created a survey as part of my project I am doing to try and find out the scale of the issue of illegally or legally dumping raw sewage into our waters. This is something that is not addressed in terms of solutions for the issue which is part of what I am trying to do as there are laws in place but these laws cannot be policed because of the scale of the issue. Many yachts and powerboats owners will pump out sewage below there boat whenever full, partly due to the hassle of finding a sewage disposal station and paying for this service. I want to find an easy solution for this making it sanitary to pump/dispose of a full sewage tank below your boat which is also cost effective and may bring more benefits than one could think...

Thank you in advance for taking part in my survey, it is much appreciated and of course it is completely anonymous...

porirua council is pumping untreated sewage into a surfing beach

Why in the 21st century are councils discharging raw untreated sewage into the ocean? In Porirua, this happens on rainy days when the wastewater system gets overloaded, and they are unable to treat it before discharging it out to sea. Normally, it gets treated, but not when it rains heavily. The sewage gets discharged into Titahi Bay close to the surfing beach. When the tide comes in, so does the poop. You can see the surfers in amongst it and they don't wonder or care that the water is brown and sludgy. Shame.

Shoreline sewage removal (water pumping station not working)

Hi all,

I'm fairly new to C:S and have found google searching as a great way to understand common problems and how to fix. Youtube videos as well. But I haven't been able to find a solution to this problem:

I'm building a shoreline city with no river. I have placed my water intake on one side of the shoreline and my sewage on the other. There isn't enough current to keep the sewage from collecting.

I tried a good trick with some success. I place water pumping stations in the sewage and terminate the pipe without connecting it to the water supply. This "filters" the shoreline water to clean.

Recently though, I have found that many of my water pumping stations are not working. There is no clear reason why. They have power. They have a pipe that terminates nearby into the soil and that pipe is not connected to the water supply grid. I also have my water budget cranked up to 150%.

What would cause my water pumping stations to not work? I need them as my water filter and sewage removal. There is nowhere else for me to evacuate the waste without it contaminating my drinking water.

My city has about 17,000 people.

I have 3 water treatment plants. I even tried building a hydro electric dam around the cove where I have the water treatment plants to contain the sewage or to encourage water flow.

Any ideas?

Improvement project of Sharjah Municipality in their sewage system sees an increased pumping power in the main treatment plant.

In its continuing attempts to keep pace with urban growth in the Emirate, the Municipality of Sharjah has carried out a project to upgrade its sewage pumping plants and to increase the sewage pumping capability of its primary treatment facility.

According to Thabit Al Turaifi, General Director of Sharjah City Municipality, the department has already begun upgrading work at the pumping station in the Al Soor district.

Renovation work is on, and to keep pace with urban planning in the city, an old station that was built in 1977 has been replaced. In line with the current specifications, design and expansion work has already been carried out in the city and in eight commercial buildings.

β€œThe Municipality, throughΒ its flows programme, had a positive effect and managed to reduce the cost from Dh37 million to Dh5 million,” said Al Turaifi, talking about projects for development and how to test and ensure the performance of the plant.

He pointed out that the Municipality is keen to strengthen its position in the implementation of the best facilities and the development of numerous associated initiatives. The pumping facility, which serves many regions, including Jubail, Al Nad, Al Qasimia and Al Sour, is considered to be one of the most significant ones. It also serves many of the area's modern facilities and other business buildings.

Al Tarifi clarified that, due to its strategic significance in waste water disposal and in line with the urban boom and population development in the region, the municipality has increased the capacity of the plant from 500 cubic meters to 2,500 meters.

Eng. Hasan Al Tifaq, Assistant Director General of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, clarified that in the main control center, the plant would be managed and tracked remotely via the electronic SCADA system. This reflects the keenness of the municipality to foster digital transformation. Because of its small space, the new plant can cope with the pressure created in the past.

Al Tifaq noted that the Municipality has also made upgrades to eight other large pumping stations in the city of Sharjah, which run under advanced structures and focus on pumping water to the main treatment facility.

Neighbor pumping sewage into street

My neighbor has a hose running out of his front basement window and he’s been pumping sewage into the street. I guess maybe he has a broken sewer line in his basement?οΏΌ

People on the block call the cops whenever it happens, and they come and tell him to pull it in and nothing more. He’s gotten wise to this, so now he’s running it under cover of darkness and pulling it in before sunrise. I can tell because the scent of sewage is still in the airr when I take the dogs out in the morning, along with the stains on the road. οΏΌ

Who else can I call to put an end to this? Water department? I’m calling 311 Monday morning. Anyone ever deal with a similar situation?οΏΌοΏΌ
