48 Hilarious Semi major and semi minor axes Puns

How do you prove the formulas for the semi-major and semi-minor axes that have to do with the periapsis and apoapsis of the orbit?

So I am working on some orbital stuff and I need to prove the semi-major axis equation that goes like:

a = (apoapsis + periapsis) / 2

as well as the semi-minor axis one, which is:

b^(2) = apoapsis * periapsis

Now, I am a high school student and this stuff is not yet trivial to me. I need someone to at least explain to me how to go about proving these equations because I am currently lost.

Calculating the Semi-Major and Semi-Minor Axes of an Ellipsoid

I have a planet. Its mass is 2.63x10^24 kg, its density is 5.5 g/cm^3, and its rotational velocity is 0.35 km/s. Additionally, its semi-major axis (the one from core to equator) is 4,841 km. I want to know what its ellipsoidal shape is, or in other words I want to know the length of its semi-minor axis (the one from core to pole) as it should be shorter than its semi-major axis. Everywhere I look online, information on this is about calculating volume from already known major and minor axes, when I only have the major axis so far. Can somebody help me with this? Thanks!

Is there a differential equation relating a change in thrust with a change in the semi-major/semi-minor axes?

I have played around a bit, and I feel as though I have an expression that does what I want. However, I can't check it. Is there a established equation for da/dT?

Note: This was posted by me on askscience, but as usual it got buried.

Note2: I was just introduced to Lagrangian Mechanics. Is this question answered in terms of that?

Surface fleet meta for semi-major, minor nation?

Is there any sense in making surface fleet(light cruisers with crap destroyers as screen and torpedo destroyers) in sp? I mean I played Italy and managed to produce fleet with 40 ships (8 taskforces each one with one cruiser, one torpedo destroyer and four crap destroyers) and was doing good in Mediterranean but then came British main fleet and completely destroyed me, in that battle my fleet didn't inflict any serious damage maybe some 2 destroyers. In addition I have full air superiority and my naval bombers was sinking enemy's destroyers. So my question is what could went wrong? I had too little fleet, I should make better taskforce composition or I should switch to subs meta or what?

Going down a semi-tone from a minor chord to a major? Is there a name for it?

Like going from A minor to A flat major? Some examples I know that has that transition: “Just” by Radiohead, “Gangsters” by The Specials and “If I Fell” by The Beatles. There was also one Pink Floyd song but I can’t remember the name now. Is there a name for that transition?

And in case anyone has the knowledge, was that transition popular among classical composers or does it have any historical relevancy?

Minor, Major and Semi-Major Characters

So happy to have found this subreddit as I’m just watching this series for the first time and glad to find folks to chat about it with. I’m up to the first Lucy Knight episode.

One thing I’ve loved about the show is how fluid it is with its characters. One second someone is one of the main characters and then others are introduced and others phased out. I have been pretty bad at guessing the duration and emphasis that will be given on each character, like I really would have like for more back story on Hicks, wish Doyle had more plots, didn’t think Cynthia would be around for so long (and couldn’t they get rid of her quicker?!! Sorry Mariska!).

The one semi-minor Trope that inexplicably enrages me every time I see it is that Dumbledore apparently was a coward who was hiding at Hogwarts for years, unwilling to go and finally defeat Grindelwald. What do you guys think?

I mean, it's not that simple, you absolute moron!

Dumbledore can't just be like, "Oh, let me pop over to Nurmengard, where I will obviously defeat Grindelwald with no chance it goes wrong whatsoever. I'll be back for lunch!"

Grindelwald was, canonically, almost equal to Dumbledore at his prime, a shade less skilled than him. Give Grindelwald first-year Denis Creevey as an ally and they're even, bitch!

Fucking what? How can anyone see it as that simple?

I'd understand it if a character in a story is saying it, but it's very clear to me when a character is acting as the author's mousepiece.

Ugh. Sorry for the rant. Thoughts?

How screwed am I? Just bought my 2018 WRX in July and took it in for an oil change recently. Was told there was a semi-minor oil/transmission fluid leak.

My WRX is a 2018 limited CVT (don’t give me shit please about the CVT lol) and it was purchased 6hrs away from me and then driven down to me. So I never got to inspect the car myself, my mother did before driving it to me and she later admitted to me that she doesn’t know jack shit about the car.

I went to get my oil changed three days ago and the mechanic said that they found an oil leak and a transmission fluid leak. Nothing dramatic, but it was recommended to me to get it fixed on my next oil change since they have to drain the oil. He also said some of it was coming out of the exhaust/towards end of car? He was super brief about it all...

I’ve noticed sometimes there’s a little bit of white smoke coming out of the hood when the car is parked after driving for a bit. But it’s so humid and rainy here in FL, so I considered maybe it was from that and didn’t get too pressed over it. Also it ended up going away recently once the rain lightened up.

Florida doesn’t have any lemon laws with used cars so I’m stuck with this repair all on my own. I left a friends house yesterday and he told me today that he found some oil spots on the driveway where my car was parked. Do I need to immediately get these leaks fixed? If so, how expensive do you thing this will be? Parts are semi cheap from what I’ve seen, just seems like the labor is going to be the expensive part.

Sorry if this post just screams “you’re an idiot”. But send help, I fucked up :/

Also forgot to mention, car is completely stock.
