A list of puns related to "Scotland and the Thirty Years' War"
I'm reading this book and I'm enjoying it a lot so far, having a passion for the subject matter. Still, I have never read a book so comprehensive and dense on the Thirty Years' War. Since it's a 1938 book, I wonder, is it particularly dated? Is there any particularly wrong or outdated information inside? I mean, I know the answer is probably "yes", but I'd like to know "what" and "how so". Also, is there a better and more modern monography (in english) you would suggest?
I believe that the mod replacing NW for Bannerlord (which there will be eventually a mod with musket warfare for Bannerlord because of how popular NW was and, to a lesser extent, is) should be about the 1600s. Here are my points.
1: The Napoleonic era has become old when it comes to M&B, we need a fresh new modern era for a fresh new game.
2: There have been two mods/DLC (and a lesser known mod) for M&B regarding the 1600s, The Deluge, With Fire and Sword (WFAS), and The English Civil War Mod (ECW) If a Thirty years war mod was made for Bannerlord it could include not only the Thirty Years War, by including a paliamentary faction and a loyalist faction, (or others such as the scottish and the irish, both of which already had mercenaries in the Thirty Years War) you could also represent the English Civil war while still having the same tech, and by including Russia, Poland, Crimea/The Ottomans and the Cossacks you could represent the Deluge and with the Ottomans, the great turkish war.
Now when it comes to NW you could also include the war of 1812 by adding the USA on merit of being in the same era, the Swedish Norwegian war by including Norway and Sweden, or even you could add the Ottomans to represent the Egyptian Campaign (though this was before the Napoleonic wars). I believe that the Thirty Years War is the best of these three because with The Napoleonic wars you only really have France vs Everyone else (which NW tried to circumvent with the adding of the Rheinbund and Blood and Iron, a NW style F2P game tried to circumvent with the adding of the Duchy of Warsaw and Bavaria) while on the other hand you can have The Countries of the Protestant league against the Catholic league (which does not have to be just two factions but can rather be multiple german states, spain, and austria against other german states, the netherlands, sweden, and france, and with adding the other thee eras mentioned before you could also have parliamentarians and loyalists, the many factions of the deluge, and the ottomans).
3: The Thirty years war has unique combat involving melee combat more suitable to a M&B game, which has been demonstrated by The Deluge and WFAS (have many of the same classes as NW, but includes more melee focused classes such as pikemen archers, and swordsmen with greatswords and plate armor, also armor matters as opposed to NW in which swords and pikes are related to sidearms and a weapon for only a few classes). We could still ha
I have a bit of knowledge on the Thirty Years' War from having listened to a few podcasts about it but I've generally been more interested in the political side. So I'm aware that Gustavus Adolphus was a pretty excellent general (and is represented in game as such) and the Swedes as a result were particularly important in this war. Spanish mercenaries also played an important role but in game this is represented with different buffs, specific to Spain and to mercenaries.
Most of the time with this game I haven't paid much attention to where the technologies fall historically, but the Thirty Years' War is one of the only wars that is programmed to happen and it almost always coincides with the jump from military technology 14 to 15 which is the single most impactful leap, which consists of improvements to individual infantry units' abilities, as well as a boost to morale and a massive boost to tactics. Given that I know of...the existence of Gustavus Adolphus I assume that they have made it like this to represent real innovations in infantry tactics in particular that occured during this period. So, experts, please tell!

Hi there Folks, I was hoping some of you might have some suggestions for 10-15 year old kids who are interested in the Thirty Yearsβ War and the Napoleonic Wars. The child I have in mind is a very strong reader and reads above their age level but I donβt want to get them something that will be too academic. That being said, they wonβt want anything too simplistic either. Maybe a more detailed overview book (if that makes sense?) Iβve looked around some but Iβm hoping someone might have some good ideas. Thanks in advance for any help!
so basically just comment if you would be interested, if the answer is no, then please comment why and/or what would be a better setting for a historical total war game
> Between 1626 and 1630 an average of 10,000 men were conscripted each year, with a peak in 1627 of 13,500. This amounted to 2% of the entire male population each year. As the drainage of manpower increased in the 1630s, boys of 15-17 began to be conscripted.
> In some northern areas of Sweden the effects were disastrous. A now notorious study by J. Lindgren has revealed the effects on the parish of Bygdea, which in 1620 consisted of about 250 farmsteads with 1,900 people in all. By 1639 the population had fallen to about 1,700. The male population between 15 and 60 had dropped even more dramatically, from 468 in 1621 to only 288 in 1639. Of 230 men conscripted, only 15 ever returned alive.

Analyze the role of religion in BOTH internal AND external politics from 1517 to 1688 through the lens
of BOTH change AND continuity.
While they were somewhat removed from the bulk of the fighting taking place in modern Germany and the Netherlands, I can't help but wonder what the impact of the war was on the people of this very politically important region.
I'm open to any suggestions as this has always been an era I've been very interested in, though was never able to learn about in any great depth during my education.
Can anyone recommend any good books on the era itself, or perhaps the conquests and achievements of Gustavus Adolphus? I love learning about battle plans and tactics and what have you, and from my limited knowledge of the man I understand that he was a master of his craft.
Iβm writing a guide to the Thirty Yearsβ War and alongside dynastic disputes and power struggles religion obviously played a large part in the initiation of the war. Iβm curious at how most, if not all, the holy orders of Christianity were involved in such a heated conflict. I know there is a doctrinal difference between the Benedictine Rule orders and the friar-esque orders, but Iβm also curious at the involvement or possible lack thereof of more militaristic orders.
Comment from the basement, as if there isnt a fed bad post there every single day
Or any pre-modern time or place will do really, as the question is pretty universal.
I am interested in those time periods specifically about Sweden. Basically the 1611-1721 time period, I would like some thing with detail but not hard to read, but please don't exclude any books regardless.
Thank you
