A list of puns related to "Sargent Shriver"
Your challenge is to get Sargent Shriver elected President in 1968 with a POD no later than 1960 good luck.
What if Sargent Shriver had become president of the United States? When would this have happened? What would he have done while in office?
Screener at the beginning to see if you've taken anything similar. http://adf.ly/DD573
During Sargent Shriver's funeral, his son Bobby Shriver gave a very memorable remembrance talking about a trouble he had with the police and marijuana, and how Sargent Shriver responded. I'm trying to find the video, but CNN took it down. Can anyone help?

As Scoop Jackson took office on that tragic day in November of 63, he didn't know what was going to happen. The Highest of Highs and the Lowest of Lows would mark his Presidency - and he would leave the office unpopular on the left and far-right for different reasons. But he would maintain the respect of his colleagues and most of the American people.
Cabinet -
President Jackson's Cabinet would reflect the turbulent state of his Presidency. After the "March Massacre", Secretary Fulbright and Ambassador Stevenson would resign both replaced by hawks McNamara and Rusk. NS Advisor McGeorge Bundy would take over as SecDef - despite his academic background. When Bob Kennedy resigned to run for President, his Deputy AG - Nicholas Katzenback who was loyal to Scoop became AG. However, the most crushing loss was the resignation of Bob McNamara - who had been Scoop's "loyal" Cabinet member on Vietnam. Now, with his resignation to be RFK's VP Candidate (and eventually VP) - Scoop was crushed. Both on a personal level since he sincerely trusted McNamara and on an advisory level knowing that his Cabinet was now firmly 2nd rate. Undersecretary of State William P. Bundy replaced McNamara.
Voting Rights -
I will do the 1964 Democratic Primaries (which are more complicated than you would expect), then do the Presidency based on the Results and stuff from November 22 to the 1964 Election.
Scoop Jackson -
Scoop Jackson, 36th President of the United States
Henry M. Jackson, known by everyone as "Scoop" has had an eventful Presidency since that faithful day when JFK was shot. After much MUCH hard work, the Voting Rights Act passed Congress on February 10, 1964. Jackson focused his attention on getting the Economic Oppurtunity Act of 1964 passed. Thanks to his and Senator Johnson's efforts, the bill did end up passing. The bill created many Government Agencies such as the OEO, VISTA, Job Corps, CAP, and a few others. The OEO (which was the crown jewel of the act) was run by Kennedy in-law and Director of the Peace Corps Sargent Shriver. "Scoop" has a big domestic agenda planned if he got a 2nd Term in his "A Better Future". However, for now - another issue lingers. Vietnam. In late February after the VRA passed, Scoop sent an extra 20,000 "advisors" into Vietnam. Scoop also began sending US Ships into areas around the Vietnamese coast to have a powerplay against the Vietnamese and talk of the bombers getting into action began with Scoop beginning it. What happened instead was something far more dramatic. The former moves caused Secretary of State J. William Fulbright, Undersecretary of State George W. Ball both resigned, and UN Ambassador Adlai Stevenson all resigned. This was called the March Massacre in the press (somewhat like Mac's Night of the Long Knives). The New Cabinet changes would lead to the hawks dominating the Cabinet. Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara became the new Secretary of State, National Security Advisor McGeorge Bundy became Secretary of Defense, Assistant Secretary of State William Bundy became Undersecretary of State Bundy and the President of the Rockefeller Foundation, Dean Rusk became Ambassador to the UN. Anyway, back to the incident. Soon After, Robert Kennedy announced his In two days, it was widely reported that North Vietnamese attacked the USS Maddox (though, curiously didn't attempt to damage the ship). Anyhow, Scoop Jackson asked for and got a "Gulf of Tonkin Resolution" giving the President a wide array of powers in Vietnam. Most of Scoop's Advisors, even the technocrat Bundy expected

Interesting things I observed:
Most states have a total of 12 possible senators, 2 for each party (RD-R, RD-D, NPP-L, NPP-C, NPP-FR, NPP-Y). But since some possible senators can become presidents (e.g. Gus Hall) or join a presidentβs cabinet (e.g. Russell B. Long), there are 5 states who have 14 possible senators (Arizona, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, and Mississippi) and 18 states with 13 possible senators (Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Washington).
This may or may not be a bug, but following senators appear multiples times:
Clearly, the National Progressive Party has mastered the art of cloning.
The longest name is βBenjamin Franklin Dillingham II,β a possible NPP (FR) senator from Hawaii; the most common first name is βJohnβ (41 instances), followed by James (22 instances) and βCharlesβ (14).
There are 22 βJr.βs, 3 βSr.βs, 3 βIIβs, 2 βIIIβs, and 1 βIV.β
3 senators have nicknames: BolesΕaw βBillβ Gebert (Oregon, NPP-L), O. βAbeβ Murdock Jr. (Utah, RD-R), and W. A. βTough Tonyβ Boyle (Montana, NPP-C).
EDIT: 6) Just noticed the awesome father-son combo of Prescott βThe Business Plotβ Bush as RD-R from Connecticut and George H. W. βTreason And War Crimesβ Bush as RD-D from Texas.
Anyway, on to the list of names:
Party | State | Name |
---|---|---|
Republican | Alabama | Richmond Flowers Sr. |
Republican | Alabama | John H. Buchanan Jr. |
Democrat | Alabama | Carl Atwood Elliott |
Democrat | Alabama | Howell Heflin |
National Progressive Party (Left) | Alabama | Harry Haywood |

However, I wanted to make this short guide instructing people on how to replace Thomas Eagleton with Sargent Shriver as McGovern's running mate, as he did in real life, since there's a bit of a trick to it, and it's not super straightforward. I intend to get McGovern's side out this Friday, as a tentative release date. It's been coming along really well and I'm close to finished with that side. Think of this post as a bit of a preview. When I release the mod however, I'm going to link this so that people understand how to drop Eagleton if they want to. You will be able to keep him on the ticket, drop him, or just choose someone else from the get-go.
Here's one of the questions as a preview.
This is what the mod looks like without entering any Shriver code.
This is how the mod now looks before I selected my answer and after I entered my code.
Feedback when you drop Eagleton after successfully following the steps above.
