A list of puns related to "Ra Ta Ta"
Posting a message from Teaching Assistants and Research Assistants at Concordia University (TRAC) below.
"Hi there,
Despite soaring COVID-19 cases, healthcare worker shortages, slow vaccine rollout, and still nearly 25% of Quebecers who are still not double-vaccinated and even more who are not triple-dosed Concordia has been pushing to resume classes in-person on campus as soon as possible.
This is clearly unrealistic, and Concordia has had to modify the tentative return date multiple times in response to the unfolding COVID-19 situation.
At TRAC, we have been clear: there should be No Work but Safe Work for RAs & TAs.
We have specific demands for Concordia and we will be bringing this to the media on Monday.
We appreciate your time,
Alessandra

Sharing this message from Teaching and Research Assistants at Concordia (TRAC):
Dear fellow workers,
As you all know, we are entering a new stage of the pandemic.
Despite the fact that this pandemic has been going on for almost two years, Concordia still seems to be making up their plans as they go along. First they said that things would be online until January 10. Then, it was January 19th. Who knows what date they will say next?
There is no doubt to us at TRAC Union, based on current case counts and booster vaccination timelines that January 19th is too early. Many students will not even be eligible for a booster until January 21st, and this does not account for the time it takes for the booster to take effect. The earliest it could conceivably be safe to go back is February 7th – any day earlier than that is unacceptable.
Current booster shot eligibility requirements indicate that university workers are included under "school staff", meaning that TRAC members are now eligible for their third dose. We recommend getting vaccinated as soon as possible, and bringing a pay stub as proof of university employment.
As educators, students, and workers, we want nothing more than to be able to enjoy each other’s company in an in-person classroom environment. After 18 months online, this past fall was a welcomed return. But now we are back in the thick of it, and the time has come again for us to fight together to make sure that we are all safe at work. The last thing anyone wants are outbreaks in classrooms – no one should have to pick between their education, their paycheque, and their health.
For that reason, we also insist that Concordia provide N95 masks to all who work on campus, just as they have previously supplied blue surgical masks.
We want to affirm to you that, if Concordia returns to in-person learning before it is safe to do so, we will stand behind and support any member who wishes to work from home because they do not feel safe.
No work but safe work!
In solidarity,
TRAC
I was recently accepted into an MPP program and wanted to know if it's possible to secure an RA/TA position even before enrolling (or at least have a good chance at getting one). Essentially, if a school is offering me one, I would be more likely to attend over another.
Is the best approach to directly email professors with who I am interested in working with and ask for time to meet? I know different schools have different thoughts but unsure if there is a best practice. Given that I am doing a professional degree, I also don't know if the norms are similar to an MA or MS.
Hi guys and gurls,
I am on financial aid. I am thinking of working as a part-time RA or just continue teaching tuition outside.
but.. I heard that YaleNUS has this scheme where they give financial aid by working part-time on campus and they pro rate that.
So I am wondering if I take on a part-time RA/TA role and I get money from there, will my financial aid be prorated and then decrease? Is it under the NUS Student Work Scheme or smth??
If that is the case (and I'll get the same overall amount of fin. aid) then I might as well continue teaching tuition outside as money is quite tight for my fam .. and also academic load is already v high..
Thx so much!!
I'm an American, raised catholic, Hindu scripture was not a priority in my local education.
Anyone here has ever had the chance of being one of the above? While being an IS graduate student? how were you able to get that? and under which professor?
On ASU’s website, regarding assistantships, it says “Your appointment may provide a full or partial tuition award.”
Given the vague language: *Anyone knows what makes the difference between getting the full or the partis tuition award?
*If you got the tuition award and don’t mind sharing, did you get full/partial? What’s your position and what determined your award amount?
Thank you.
Sorry, not sure if I used the right flair but I'm an international applicant. I have received admission to the MS BA Flex program for fall 2022. I have programming & data science skills. I'm interested in applying for TA/RA. Where or how can I apply?
Edit: found the information that I cannot apply for TA/RA during my first semester. Link

Hello, for those with PhD experience in CS/ML in the US, how many of your semesters were funded by TA as opposed to RA? I'm particularly interested in the baseline expected support structure, but I know it may vary due to advisor resources and fellowships like GRFP/NDSEG
For example, did you typically TA during the academic year, and then have an RA over the summer? Or did you TA most of your early years, and then have RA for most of the later years?
Also, if you would feel comfortable sharing the type of school and program (e.g. T10, R1, CS, Stats, etc), that would be very helpful. I am just trying to get a sense of what the "normal" amount of teaching and research support looks like. Thank you.
Edit: It's Reveille by Sviridov!
Hi guys, I was wondering if the applications for being a TA in the winter term have closed yet?
I'm sort of worried/confused because I feel like I have been watching the job site all semester, but haven't seen them appear...
EDIT: okay sorry for the unnecessary alarm, TA spots are open from end october to beginning november for the winter term :)

I've got a couple of offers for grad school and deferred it till spring cause I wasn't able to attend in person. I've not got any scholarships or assistantships but plan to look for one hopefully at the start. I just had a few questions about it and how it works etc. If there's anyone that's willing to answer a few questions, pls let me know. Any help is much appreciated! 🙂
