A list of puns related to "Prithviraj Kapoor"
Let's call a spade a spade. Raj's line of the Kapoor family is messed up. Rishi was abusive. Randhir was an incorrigible alcoholic. The below generations aren't doing so well either, what with Ranbir attempting to kill his maid. And of course, Raj himself was an adulterer.
I'm making this post because I'm legitimately confused as to what this behaviour's roots were. Surely Raj must have got his character from someone as well, hence we may say that Prithviraj Kapoor was awful too. But looking at how Shammi and Shashi's families have turned out, this doesn't seem to be the case. Why is this? Why did Raj Kapoor alone turn out so badly? Were the other brothers given a different treatment? Or was there something genuinely wrong with Raj Kapoor himself?
And, most importantly, how was Prithviraj Kapoor as a father?
Considering the fact that child marriage was pretty normal back then, it's not that surprising. But damn.

In the history of Indian cinema there are a few milestones which paved the path and future of our Cinema. Some of these moments have been forgotten over time but others still shine bright. Here is a list of the most iconic milestones to treasure in our memory and pay respect to:
First Indian Short Film (1899) - "The Wrestlers" was the first ever motion picture made in India by Harishchandra Sakharam Bhatavdekar AKA Save Dada. Save Dada was among the first Indians to witness the movie pioneer Lumiere Brothers unveiling of a new mode of entertainment and communication on their global tour in Bombay with their first motion picture “La Sortie des ouvriers de l'usine Lumière” (“Workers Leaving the Lumière Factory”). After experiencing this new art form he decided to buy a movie camera and projector and started making short films in India. He is considered India’s first documentary film maker as he started shooting scenes from daily life and important events.
India’s First Full Length Film (1903) - "Ali Baba and Forty Thieves" is considered India’s first ever full length movie of a stage play recorded by Hiralal Sen. Hiralal saw a stage show captured on.film called “The Flower of Persia” in Calcutta and decided to make his own movies. He founded the Royal Bioscope and made more than 40 short films over the next decade. He lost most of his money over the years leading to the eventual closure of Royal Bioscope and unfortunately all his films were lost in a fire in 1917 before his untimely death. Hiralal is also considered India’s first advertising film maker.
India’s First “Feature Film” (1912) - "Shree Pundalik" is in fact the first 22 min feature film shot based on a script and released in India by Dadasaheb Torne. Since it was shot by British cinematographers, processed in London and is considered a recording of a play, it is not recognized as India’s first film by the Government of India despite being released a year before Raja Harishchandra.
First Authentic Indian Film (1913) - "Raja Harishchandra" is the movie we all know as India’s first film. It may have not been the actual “First” Indian film but it is definitely the first truly authentic Indian film made and processed completely locally. The Father of India Cinema, Dadasaheb Phalke got inspired by the film “The life of Christ” in 1911 and travelled to London to learn about film making. On his return he founded the Phalke Films company, imported the required equipment to shoot

Akshay Kumar seems to have his schedule packed with multiple releases scheduled in the upcoming months. His film Atrangi Re hit the theatres on Friday and the response has already been quite impressive in terms of performances and storyline. According to a recent report, he will soon be seen in an action drama alongside Tiger Shroff and looks like we have a name now.
For the unversed, Akki has lately been working on Ram Setu and Bachchan Pandey, both of which have been scheduled for 2022. The trailer of his next, Prithviraj, was launched a few weeks back and it opened to mixed reviews from the audiences. Some people were unimpressed with the action sequences and Akshay’s acting while others spoke highly of the upcoming period drama.
According to a report by ETimes, the upcoming Ali Abbas Zafar directorial with Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff will be similar to the 1998 film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. It also suggests that the movie will be given the same title and will go on floors in 2022 once the two actors get done with their prior commitments.
Bade Miya Chote Miyan was a comedy film which was directed by David Dhawan in t6he late 1990s. The movie featured Amitabh Bachchan and Govinda in the lead role alongside Ramya Krishnan and Raveena Tandon. The makers have also allegedly decided to aim for a 2023 release and the script has already been locked.
A Pinkvilla source had previously revealed, “Ali Abbas Zafar has been planning a big scale two-hero film for a long time now, and he has finally locked the script that does justice to the presence of two big action stars. He narrated the idea to both Akshay and Tiger, who have already agreed to do this action spectacle with little comedy. It will go on floors sometime late next year, once Ali is done with the work on his current assignment with Shahid Kapoor.” Are you guys excited to see Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff on the silver screen together? Tell us in the comments below.

Randhir was in town last week to inaugurate The Showman Show, organised by Zee Cinema, an exhibition of props used in films under the RK Films banner. t2 caught up with him en route to the exhibition venue.
How has the family reacted to Vyjayanthimala Bali’s comment in her autobiography that Raj Kapoor used link-ups with heroines to promote films?
You can’t spread such slander about a man who is not there to speak for himself. She didn’t have the balls to open her flap when RK was around. Contrary to what she has claimed, the truth is she hooked on to him. I was 15 then, Rishi was 11. I was old enough to know what was going on. That is why we kept our dignity in silence all these years. She used him then and she is doing the same thing now to promote her book which would not sell 10 copies without this (controversy). Tell me, who in this generation has heard of Vyjayanthimala? They only know Raj Kapoor.
Did you know her well?
Of course. She is an idiot. She is doing all this big talk but what is she herself? She married a married man and broke a family. Dr Bali had children.
On to more amicable matters. Your nephew has arrived with Sawaariya...
Yes, Ranbir is the new rocket from the Kapoor family. I pray that he hits bull’s-eye and proves to be a worthy grandson and a worthy son to Raj Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor.
What about your own daughters? God has been kind to us that all our children are doing good work. We have all chosen to entertain people through our craft. But it is said that you were opposed to Karisma entering films?
That is all rubbish made up by the press. We have all married actresses — Shashi Uncle married Jennifer Kendal, Shammi Uncle married Geeta Bali, I married Babita, Rishi married Neetu… Jis mein khaate hain uss mein kaise thook sakte hain? Jennifer did 36 Chowringhee Lane after marriage, Geeta Bali did Jailor and Rano (unreleased).
Then where did this talk of Kapoor daughters not being allowed to enter films start from?
My mother was not an actress, and my two sisters were like her. So people thought the daughters do not act. When Karisma came to me and said, “Dad, I want to act,” I said “Fine, go ahead.” Finito. And if you look at it, before Karisma, Sanjana (Shashi Kapoor’s daughter) had done Hero Hiralal. Because the film flopped, no one made a noise about it. Today, you do not determine your children’s future. We are not in pre-historic times when the man would go out with a plough and the wife would sit at home

Who’s she ?
Goldie Behl is also a good friend of Johars. This is his family tree: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Hindi_film_families#Behl_family
>He was cousin of Prithviraj Kapoor and maternal grandfather of Goldie Behl.
So in short, Srishti is an aunt of Kareena Kapoor and cousin of Rishi Kapoor
So what did Srishti do ? Obviously sign up all friends like K Jo who took the money and churned out low budget crap after crap.
Dhanda was: Netflix ko topi pahnao, paisa banao.
Srishti was recently fired (she said she quit, but that’s not true) and Netflix is looking to hire somebody professional.

Khwaja Ahmad Abbas wrote the film for India’s legendary director Mehboob Khan, Khan didn't show much enthusiasm about the movie and wanted to cast Ashok Kumar and Dilip Kumar which Abbas didn’t think was the right casting. Hence Abbas took the movie to Raj Kapoor who had just tasted success with his first hit “Barsaat” and was looking at launching his first movie under the newly formed banner of R.K. Films and shoot in his newly created R.K. Studio. Raj Kapoor loved the script and wanted to cast his father Prithviraj Kapoor but was afraid to ask him to sign up for the movie. So he reluctantly asked Abbas to narrate the story to his father. Prithviraj Kapoor loved the story and asked who was the movie’s director. When Abbas revealed that his son RK was going to direct the movie, Prithviraj warned Abbas not to hire such an inexperienced director to tell such a bold and great story. Despite his reservations and strong opinion Abbas managed to convince Prithviraj to join the movie’s cast.

Rebellious, effervescent, stoic. As an individual, she has weathered the inner siege of not being conventionally beautiful, the untimely death of her husband, and the pain of living with cancer. As a dancer and actress, she has scaled the staircase to acclaim only after walking that extra step and decades of toil. Yet, the wrinkled grandma of showbiz has not lost her lust for life.
Aparna Gupta draws the curtains of a world which unfolds the scenes of Zohra Segal ‘s life:
I have always been a rebel: I grew up in Chakrata in what is now Uttaranchal. There was no transport in those days and people were carried up and down the hills in baskets! Ours was a family of Rohilla Pathans and I was born to Mumtazullah Khan and Natiqua Begum as Sahibzadi Zohra Begum Mumtazullah Khan on April 27, 1912. The third of seven children – the others being Zakullah, Hajrah, Ikramullah, Uzra, Anna and Sabira – I have always been a rebel.
My best years were at school: I lost my mother early in life. Ammi had one desire: her daughters should be educated. My sisters and I went to Queen Mary’s College, Lahore. I was rather mischievous, and once, when I got to know that Amana, a junior, had a soft spot for me, I announced at the breakfast table that she loved me! She was ready to crawl under the table!
I chose career over marriage: When Hazrah appa’s unhappy marriage broke up, I told Abba that I wanted to pursue a career rather than get married. My brother Zakaullah’s suggestion that I become a lady pilot fascinated me, but Abba was against the idea. I returned to acting, my first love. Sahebzada Saeeduzzafar Khan, my mamu, was based in Edinburgh and arranged for me to be an apprentice to a British actor. We left Lahore by car and, en route, crossed Iran, Palestine and Egypt before reaching Syria. With my bones aching, the hamam there was just out of the world!
One sentence changed my life: In Syria, we were joined by mamu’s girlfriend Auntie Dicta and my cousin Mehmood. When Mehmood asked me how the actress in me would enact a scene in which my lover was unable to meet me, I said, ‘Abhi mood nahi hai.’ Scared of men and sex, this one sentence changed my life. I couldn’t sleep thinking of what acting would involve. Overnight, I changed my decision: I would become a dancer, not an actress.
Dance gave me freedom: Auntie Dicta took me to Mary Wigman’s ballet school in Dresdon, Germany, and the first question she asked me was: ‘C

Vyjayanthimala, who finally did the role refused to accept Filmfare’s Best Supporting Actress Award for Devdas, stating that her role was as important as Paro’s. Years later, Reena Roy too, rejected Filmfare’s Best Supporting Actress trophy for Apnapan (1978), citing that her role was leading and not supporting.
Bimal Roy’s Do Bigha Zameen (1953) remains a landmark film that has influenced several films including Lagaan (2001). One can find echoes of “Hariyala sawan shol bajata aaya…” from Do Bigha Zameen in “Ghanan ghanan ghir aayee…” from Lagaan.
Raj Kapoor’s Shree 420 (1955) was a tremendous hit in India and overseas, especially in Russia, Egypt, Middle-East etc. “Ichak dana…” and “Mera joota hai japani…" were rewritten in the languages of various countries and sung as local songs.
V. Shantaram’s Do Aankhen Barah Haath (1957) was inspired by the story of an ‘Open Prison’ experiment in Satara. The film portrays a young jail warden, Adinath, who rehabilitates six deadly prisoners released on parole into persons of virtue. During the shooting of the film, V. Shantaram battled with a bull and hurt his eyes and affected his vision. During the period of temporary blindness, he visualized some unseen colours of life which resulted into the making of his colourful Navrang (1959).
Dilip Kumar initially refused to be part of Naya Daur (1957) but then, his friend Ashok Kumar, who heard and loved the story, convinced him to accept it. Madhubala was the female lead in this movie but when B.R. Chopra decided to shoot the movie in Bhopal, Madhubala’s father, Ataullah Khan, refused to let her go citing personal reasons. Finally, Madhubala had to be replaced with Vyjayantimala who entered a new phase of her career with the super hit – Naya Daur.
Guru Dutt wanted Dilip Kumar to play the leading role in Pyaasa (1957). The Tragedy King declined because he thought this role was similar to his Devdas (1955). So, Guru Dutt himself decided to play the role. Similarly, Madhubala and Nargis were his first choices for the leading ladies, which were eventually played by Mala Sinha and Waheeda Rehman. Pyaasa went on to become a cult film in the history of Indian cinema.

Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro is one of the funniest movies ever made in India, but it is much more than an entertaining belly tickling comedy. At the heart of the movie is a theme of corruption, bribery and economic divide in society. It's a movie which will make you laugh out loud multiple times but also show a realistic picture that good guys don’t always come first. Kundan Shah had applied for a loan of Rs 4 Lacs to make the movie, however NFDC decided to produce the movie for a budget of Rs 6 Lacs which was peanuts compared to the crore+ budget of most movies of that era. The movie did go slightly over budget to INR 7.5 Lacs. With such a small budget, the actors were asked to bring their own clothes and props. Naseer actually brought his own camera for the movie and unfortunately lost it during the shooting. For the premiere of the movie Kundan Shah and all the cast had to buy their own tickets to the movie. Such a small budget meant that the movie opened in only 4 theaters in Bombay which resulted in a very small box office return initially. But once the word of mouth spread, the movie achieved commercial and critical success becoming one of Bollywood’s best cult classic comedies.
Kundan Shah assembled all his batch mates and theater artists from FTII to make the movie. Naseeruddin Shah and Ravi Baswani play lead characters Vinod and Sudhir who were named after the movie’s production assistants (Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Sudhir Mishra). Vidhu Vinod would become the legendary producer - director of Parinda, 1942, Munnabhai, 3 Idiots and PK while Sudhir Mishra would become a renowned writer - director of “Iss Raat KI Subah Nahin”, Chameli and others. Kundan Shah wanted to hire Aparna Sen to play the role of the reporter

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Dilip Kumar. The name evokes a myriad of images and every single one is iconic. From his mischievous smile that rejoices in teasing his leading lady to the pangs of pain in coping with the upheavals of his broken heart to his swaggering antics that could break the mightiest of tyrants, the visuals are endless.
At a time when acting was associated with theatrics, he changed the rules by showing us the beauty of subtlety and restraint. His nuanced performances were fine-tuned with every passing film, becoming an inspiration for the likes of Rajendra Kumar, Manoj Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan.
And to think the legendary actor, born Mohammad Yusuf Sarwar Khan who made his acting debut at the age of 22 in Jwar Bhata never had any inclination to join films.
Sukanya Verma salutes the memory of an incomparable actor through 25 of his glorious movies.
Jugnu (1947)
In 1947, India won Independence from the British and Dilip Kumar got his first taste of success with Jugnu.
Paired opposite songstress Noorjehan, Jugnu starts out as a breezy romance between a happy-go-lucky young man and its golden-hearted titular heroine before hitting an unforeseen tragic conclusion, quite typical of scripts those days.
Shaheed (1948)
Long before Manoj Kumar discovered his calling as a patriotic figure in Shaheed, the first in the Bharat series, Dilipsaab made a lasting impression with his sensitive, sensible portrayal of a nationalist joining the 1942 Quit India Movement.
His pairing with Shaheed co-star Kamini Kaushal, whom he was romantically linked with, produced box office success in films such as this, Nadiya Ke Paar, Arzoo and Shabnam.
Mela (1948)
Even though their chemistry wasn't as renowned as the famous Raj Kapoor-Nargis jodi, Dilip Kumar and she worked on quite a few unforgettable films.
In Mela, they play childhood sweethearts, who spend most of the film apart owing to unfortunate circumstances. But the moments that do come together are nothing short of celluloid magic.
Andaaz (1949)
Mehboob Khan explores the thin line between friendships and relationships through the masterful troika of Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor and Nargis in Andaaz.
But it's the grey areas conveyed in Dilipsaab's urges that truly elevate Andaaz from a glamorous love triangle to a stunning study in human psyche.

There was a time when every female actor worth her salt was offered tailor-made role by Yash Raj Films, which would go on to become a commercial and critical milestone in her illustrious career. She would often be the protagonist around whom the story revolved. Be it Sridevi in Chandni and Lamhe, Madhuri Dixit in Dil To Paagal Hain, Juhi Chawla in Darr, Kajol in Fanaa and DDLJ, Preity Zinta in Veer Zaara and Salaam Namaste and of course Rani Mukherjee whose filmography has some of the best YRF female led films like Hichki, Mardaani franchise, and Bunty aur Babli.
But one look at the recent releases and line-up of YRF and one can't help but observe how the emphasis is now on hero driven larger-than- life films such as Sultan, War, Fan, Aurangzeb, Tiger series, Dhoom series, Thugs of Hindustan, and yet to be released Shamshera and Prithviraj.
The current A-list female actor Alia Bhatt is yet to work with YRF while the reigning established actor like Deepika Padukone has had a strictly average experience with YRF through Bachna Ae Haseeno and Lafange Parindey. These two actors are at their peak but YRF has no films with them for now. Even Kareena Kapoor has no laudable films with YRF as both Mujhse Dosti Karoge and Tashan tanked at the box office. Interesting actors to watch out like Kriti Sanon, Kiara Advani, Jhanvi Kapoor and Sara Ali Khan are also working with other banners.
Is this the end of a classic leading YRF-era for a new age female actor, as most of their roles for female actors are supporting in nature like Katrina Kaif in Dhoom series?

This book would be incomplete without a chapter on my children, Riddhima and Ranbir. They have made me a very proud father. I may have never acknowledged as much to them in person, but I’d like them to know how impressed I am that they have both decided to walk the path of their choice, each in their own way.
When Riddhima was born in 1980, Neetu and I were over the moon. And no, neither of us was disappointed that our first-born was a girl. The arrival of Ranbir made our family complete.
My father was delighted when Ranbir was born, his first and only ‘proper’ grandson (my sisters’ sons are not Kapoors and Dabboo has two daughters). In his will, he left a family heirloom specially for Ranbir: a beautiful old gold coin with an inscription in Afghani or Peshawari script. He did not will it to me, but directly to his grandson. Ranbir, inturn, has to leave it to his grandson. There’s also a necklace of gold coins that he bequeathed to Ranbir. Several years from now, that too will be inherited by his grandson.
Although I was busy with work when the kids were little, I always made sure we had time together as a family. I had the Sundays off, and every year I would take them abroad for a full month. They would also accompany me on my outdoor shoots. I gave them all the time and attention I could manage in an otherwise packed schedule.
Whenever we travelled, we were accompanied by a whole retinue of people, including a cook and a maid. We would also cart along a video camera, a video player and a television set so that our daughter could watch cartoons while she ate her meals. In the early days, whether I was filming in Kashmir or Mysore, or in the US for stage shows, I used to have a special cook for Riddhima, so she could get the kind of food she wanted. Bahadur and Amma from our domestic staff travelled everywhere with us. My whole crew stayed with me for the comfort and safety of my wife and kids.
I have often danced to my daughter’s tunes, like most fathers tend todo. I used to be a heavy smoker but I gave up cigarettes when she told me, ‘Papa, I won’t kiss you in the morning because you smell.’
When Riddhima grew up and decided to get married, I was, quite frankly, pleased. Over the years, we have grown close to each other and I take every opportunity to dash to Delhi to see her and spend time with my granddaughter.
Ranbir was also always clear about what he wanted to do, though he would only talk to his mother about it, never to me. He wasn’t fixate

During Prithviraj Kapoor’s early days when he was trying to establish himself as an actor, he befriended a fellow theater actor named Kidar Sharma who was also trying to break into movies as an actor. Before he became a well renowned writer, producer and director, Kidar used to make money as a set painter and small time actor in movies. Prithvi introduced his 8 year old son Raj Kapoor to Kidar who would get Raj his first job as a clapper boy in movies at the age of 11 and eventually direct RK’s first movie as a lead actor "Neel Kamal" in 1947. The movie marked the debut of two future movie legends, RK and Madhubala in their first lead roles. "Neel Kamal" along with 2 more RK - Madhubala vehicles released the same year were commercial failures and prompted RK to take his fate in his own hands as he produced and directed his own movies. Raj Kapoor was the eldest son of famed theater and movie actor Prithviraj Kapoor who established Prithvi Theater and became one of India’s greatest method actors in his hey days. "Neel Kamal" along with 2 more RK - Madhubala vehicles released the same year were commercial failures and prompted RK to take his fate in his own hands as he produced and directed his first movie “Aag”.
Unfortunately RK’s “Aag” which was a complex love story and starred RK with a burned face didn’t succeed at the theaters. Some of the established industry producers ridiculed RK’s movie with comments like ”The only way a movie theater would screen Aag is if RK built it also". The harsh criticism of his fairly good movie, strengthened RK’s resolve and

You see the whole country of this system is just a position by the hemoglobin in the atmosphere, because you are a sophisticated rhetorician, intoxicated by the exuberance of your own verbosity. If u know what this means then keep reading this review, because you have seen the movie or at least enjoyed its songs. If you don’t know what this means then let logic take a rest for a few hours and try Manmohan Desai’s star studded 70s masala flick “Amar Akbar Anthony” as he takes the Nasir Hussain formula of lost brothers and adds a twist of religion, dose of Big B and a memorable soundtrack to create one of the biggest movies of the 70s. You may be surprised to hear that "A sophistical rhetorician, inebriated with the exuberance of his own verbosity” was an actual comment made by a British PM named Benjamin Disraeli in 1878 describing his rival Gladstone. Manmohan Desai was one of the most successful directors of the 60s and 70s with back to back hits with the Kapoors and Kaka. When he originally planned the movie, its cast was Rajesh Roshan as Amar, Vijay Arora as Akbar and Navin Nishchol as Anthony but thankfully the producers and distributors were happy to infuse more money into MD’s movies because of his success record. So in 1975 MD would start 4 multi-starrer extravaganzas with Dharmendra as lead. Dharam would back out of two movies due to overwork and get replaced by Vinod Khanna. MD was originally not very impressed with Big B when Salim Javed introduced the future superstar in 1972 but his big break in Prakash Mehra’s Zanjeer would change the superstars box office value. So the second lead role in both these movies would go to the angry young man himself. MD would do the impossible in 1977 as all 4 directed movies would become superhits with Dharam Veer ranking at #2, Parvarish at #4, Chacha Bhatija at #5 and AAA at #1 at the box office. This movie would also earn Amitabh Bachchan his first best actor Filmfare Award.
When MD was shooting Parvarish in the studio, Big B was rehearsing one of his most iconic scenes in another part of the studio under direction of dialog maestro Kader Khan. When Desai came back and watched the rehearsal shot of a drunk, beat up Big B talking to himself in front of a mirror, he would include that shot as is in his final cut and tell Amitabh “You may want to leave MD, but I will never leave you”. Desai would stick to his word and cast Amitabh in all his directed movie from that day forward up until his final movie. AAA was

Mughal-E-Azam was based on the love story of Prince Salim, heir to Emperor of India, Akbar and Anarkali a court dancer and how he wages war against his father after he opposes their relationship. It was the first movie to cost more than 1 crore and sell more than 100 million tickets. It is the first black and white Hindi movie to be digitally colored and first Indian movie to be officially re-released. This is the only movie in history to feature India’s most treasured classical voice "Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan" at an astronomical cost of 50 times more than any singer of that era. A cost which even the highest paid actors were not earning for an entire movie. Everything in the movie was done at a grand scale whether it was golden shoes for the Prince, a set which took more than 2 years to make or a song with 100+ singers in the backup chorus.
The movie took 16 years to make. The director of the movie K Asif would only complete 2 movies in his lifetime and he would spend a third of his life creating his labour of love and life "Mughal-E-Azam". The work on the movie started with Chandra Mohan, Sapru and Nargis as the original cast in 1946 during British Raj. The movie would stall after Chandra Mohan’s death. Then Prithviraj Kapoor would get cast for the role of Akbar along with Dilip Kumar and his real life love interest Madhubala for the iconic roles of Salim and Anarkali. Dilip Kumar and Madhubala had a long love affair even though Madhubala’s father had declined Dilip Kumar’s marriage proposa

"Raj Kapoor" is the benchmark of Indian cinema that all generations of filmmakers strive to achieve. Before he became India’s greatest showman, before he became India’s favorite Joker, he was the common man, the vagabond, a persona that was as iconic and famous across the globe as Hollywood’s tramp Charlie Chaplin. His persona of the common man that all Indian’s routed for was shaped by Raj Kapoor and his band of merry men - Shankar Jaikishan his music directors who were the soul of his movies, Shailendra and Hasrat Jaipuri his lyricists who were the heart of his songs and Mukesh his voice. With the help of his friends and the talented Nargis, Lata, Manna Dey and Rafi he would conquer the hearts of the world. That is how the legend of Raj Kapoor was born with Barsaat, Awara, Aah, Shree 420 and Chori Chori in post independence India.
Their immortal partnership begins with Barsaat, a movie directed by Raj Kapoor which introduced India to the music of Shankar Jaikishan and the words of Shailendra and Hasrat Jaipuri. The RK films logo came into being from the iconic scene of Nargis and Raj Kapoor in this movie. The movie also introduced the actress Nimmi and was the first movie written by Ramanand Sagar who would go on to make several big movies but will be most remembered for his Epic series Ramayan. The success of this movie allowed Raj Kapoor to build RK Studios and launch his Iconic brand. The amazing soundtrack of this movie begins with back to back masterpieces by Lataji as she sings “Jiya Beqarar Hai” and “Mujhe Kisi Se Pyar Ho Gaya Hai”. Both songs are extremely melodious as Shankar Jaikishan start their career with what would certainly become their memorable brand of music. Then the first ever song penned by Shailendra lands on a RK soundtrack as Mukesh and Lataji sing "Patli Kamar Hai”. The simplicity and incredible depth of the song’s lyrics is what made RK stick with this amazing partnership of musician, lyricist and singer till their last days. "Bichhde Hue Pardesi” by Lataji and "Zindagi Mein Hardam” by Rafi are incredible songs penned by Hasrat Jaipuri to bring side A to an end.
Side B kicks with the most popular song of the movie “Hawa Mein Udta Jaye Mora Lal Dupatta Malmal Ka” by Lataji, a song which has been covered, reimagined and remixed multiple times. Lataji sings her solo “Ab Mera Kaun Sahara”
