A list of puns related to "Ponnambalam (actor)"

βCongress? Traitors who would rather work with the British over their own people!β
βI support Senanayake! Better to be dead than to be a communist!β
βIβll tell you whoβs really behind this. Itβs Bandaranaike and his Sinhalese fascists, they want to treat us like cattle!β
βThe Left did all the work to win us our freedom, and now those fat cats in Colombo think they can just take all the credit?β
βWickramasinghe just wants to divide the country. Heβs going to take us into civil war with that stupid independence declaration.β
βThe Republic is just a ploy to have the Tamils rule the whole country. The British understand, they want democracy.β
βSenanayake is just scared weβll take over all his plantations. In the end, it just comes down to class, you see?β
The announcement of a 1961 independence date of Sri Lanka only divided the soon-to-be independent country further. Leftists quickly realized that the announcement was meant to outflank their own independence movement, and create a state with limited leftist political participation. Well, not just Leftists - the British ploy was pretty obvious. The main difference came between people who thought independence was needed as soon as possible, domestic issues be damned, and people who could tolerate a few more years of colonial rule to put down the Tamils and Communists.
The Left responded by claiming that they had negotiated with the big-tent Congress Alliance to cooperate in securing independence from the British but had been rejected due to their demands for immediate elections and franchise for Indian Tamils. Congress responded by claiming that the Left had threatened Congress with political violence. Distrust between supporters of each political grouping only grew.
Then, the British arrived. Troop transports arrived in Trincomalee and Colombo carrying the elite 6th Airborne Division. Wishing to avoid violence, the leftist leadership urged their supporters to stay home and avoid confrontation with the British. Even though the declaration of the Republic is still nominally in effect, the LSSP and CPC have made motions to cooperate with the Congress government in building an independent Ceylon which is part of the British Commonwealth. British troops have peacefully occupied the vast majority of the country - passive resistance is common in many areas, but only in a few isolated rural areas
... keep reading on reddit β‘So, every now and then, not the main actors, but an actor in a relatively smaller role is so good they steal either a scene, or a sequence, or even an entire movie.
In your opinions, what are good examples of these.
A couple of the top of my head:
The character Kid Blue in Looper. Although he seems to be considered stupid in the film by most of the other characters, he really seems to keep getting ahead and outsmarting others (although he always ends up screwing it up again).
Bill Murray in a very small role in Little Shops of Horrors. Steve Martin is the lunatic dentist who likes to scare and cause pain in his patients, but then out of nowhere, Bill Murray comes in and totally flips things on their head. He enjoys pain and wants the dentist to do his worst.
I know I have a lot more examples, I just can't think of them at the moment. If I do, I'll keep adding them to the list, but I would like to hear about your own.
EDIT:
Some good answers, but some people clearly don't even understand the question.
EDIT:
How in the hell did this post blow up so much?
EDIT:
I just remembered a good one. The character of Ellis in the first Die Hard movie.
Viggo Mortensen in Daylight
Top 3 Offenders
Dr Strange: Sounds like he's over emphasizes certain inflections on softer A sounds on words can't handle what
Power of the Dog: I'm not sure if he was going for a modern regional Montana accent or trying to go more southern cowboy. Either way complete miss
Black Mass: I suppose Boston has a notoriously difficult accent to nail but it was a bad enough attempt that they should've just hired another actor. He didn't have a lot of dialogue but what lines he did have he kinda mumbled through them
If you'd have told me when I was a kid that the guy from "Swingers" was going to usher in the Marvel cinematic universe, redefine the "Star Wars" universe and create one of the most beloved Christmas movies of all time, I'd have probably though you were talking about Vince Vaughn lol. Kudos to Jon Favreau!
Honestly, off the top of my head, I can only think of Zendaya. Her parents were high school teachers.
Then, on the other side of the pond, where classicism is supposedly even more pervasive in acting circles to the point where even Dame Judi Dench has famously spoken out about it, I can only think of James McAvoy and Olivia Cooke as actors that come from a working-class background.

I love Dwayne Johnson. I love Ryan Reynolds. I think Lin Manuel is doing important things. While it's not actually the case it FEELS like they are involved in every other movie release and I just don't want to watch their movies. Is this some kind of fatigue? Over-saturation? Are casting decisions based on the same focus groups?
EDIT: Great responses and thank you for the insight. I would have to agree with most here that it may be more about the lack of variety with their roles than with the actors themselves. Type casting is a thing and they keep doing the same thing as long as it pays dividends.

I am mostly upset that Edgertonβs performance wasnβt even recognized with a nomination considering that he actually sang in the movie. Taron crushed that performance. The Malek comparison is just there because he did less than Taron. Malek didnβt sing for his film and in that same year, beat out an actor that did sing (B. Cooper).
Just out of curiosity. What famous roles were enhanced by an actor not taking it to another level? I was thinking of Conan being a good example. Arnold being a fresh actor playing a more pensive, to the point warrior definitely helps more than hinders. I can't imagine Conan having much charisma and that's definitely for the best.
Some extra points after reading comments.
Yen being miss cast is something that a lot of people are bringing up. However I don't see this as a miss cast but a bad choice is her costume/makeup design. Look at how different Ciri is from S1 to S2. They could definitely adjust Yen to be older looking though costume and makeup choices. Furthermore, alot of what makes her seem immature is not a casting issue but rather a writing issue. If you watch Anya in interviews she seems more than capable of playing the character Yen should be, but she hasn't been given the chance. Her lack lf connection to the character (unlike Henry's knowledge) could mean she has less input on how she is portrayed more accurately.
One thing I would say is that if they swapped the appreance of age between Triss and Yen. There would be a lot less complaints about Yen as a character.
