A list of puns related to "Pekin duck"
Our two year old female pekin duck (the egg type not meat type) is spending more time on her nest and when I go near here she opens her beak really wide and starts hissing and eventually quacking. She then comes out and joins the others. She is still laying eggs so she's not egg bound. I had read that these type of ducks don't go broody. Could she be sick or stressed or dunno...
Hey all, we have a couple pekin ducks that are about 4 months old and recently the female has been charging at us when we hold out a hand of treats. Does anyone know why she would be doing this and how it can stop? Thank you!
I have an 8 month old female pekin. She was diagnosed with a spinal deformity from a vet a little over a month ago. I originally took her in because she had bumble foot on both feet. But she was also walking bow legged, and has to use her right wing to help her walk.
The at home treatment I was giving her, helped clear up with bumble foot with no need of surgery. The dr did advise me that she has the spinal problem, and thereβs really nothing that can be done to correct it.
Yeah, Iβm one of those people that will spend hundreds of dollars on a duck π€
My concern now is that it seems that her quality of life is degrading. She weighs a lot less than her sisters, seems to be always grumpy, her feathers look like sheβs been picking away at them.
I donβt care about how much money it would cost to make her happy, I just want to make sure sheβs happy. I also feel like she might be stressing out the rest of the flock.
Basically, should I look into putting her down? I can bring her back to the vet, but I feel like that would add unnecessary stress for her.
I recently noticed a very large, white duck in the water in our neighborhood with the wild ducks. After looking online I (hopefully correctly) identified it as a pekin duck. It seems to be doing okay and I emailed a local bird rescue which told me that since it lives in an area where a lot of people feed the ducks (sadly mostly bread) it will do okay there. But theyβd still prefer to have it brought to the rescue if I can catch it, since itβs a domesticated animal that doesnβt belong here. I asked around on facebook to be sure the duck didnβt have an owner and the only responses I got were variations of βleave it beβ. Would the best thing for the duck be to be brought to the rescue and rehomed? Or to stay in the area it is familiar with? Since it canβt fly and people walk their dogs here I fear that it might possibly get hurt. I know absolutely 0 about ducks, so thanks to anyone who can give me their (informed) opinion.
Hi everyone, I need some advice for a Pekin duck that seems to have a niacin deficiency. I have been using the pink liquid vitamin b12 supplement from Tractor Supply but I'd like to find something a bit more economical and easier to administer. I have been searching online for nutritional yeast to sprinkle over their feed but I'm not sure I understand how much they actually need. Their normal feed is the Purina duck feed and we do give them peas a few times per week. They are approximately 7 weeks old. Not sure on age because we bought them from someone who bought too many and they didn't know either. We have 2 ducks and only one seems to be having a leg issue but it does appear to be getting better. Anyway, if you need more info please ask. I'd love to know how best to help them and make sure they're set up for a healthy life.
I got my ducks about 1 year ago when they were ducklings and mostly everything was smooth sailing except for my male pekin, who I infer had a niacin deficiency and ended up with one limp leg (he gets around just fine though thankfully). Very recently though (meaning starting about yesterday), I realized my female pekin, who had normal legs and got around fine, was showing reluctance to get up and walk around. Then today, she didnβt get up at all. I brought her a bowl of water that she can reach into easily while laying down and provided her with the normal pellets that I feed them. She tries to move around sometimes with her wings spread but ends up falling down and whatnot. I feel really bad and donβt know what to do to help. If anyone can help me out here, I would be really thankful.
Iβve had pekin ducks for a year, and everything that Iβve read says they wonβt sit on their eggs to hatch... for the most part. I have one female that has collected about 15 eggs and sits on them constantly. She was off them this morning so I checked out her little nest and all the eggs were warm. She came back over to sit on them when she saw me over there. So should I let her kept them and just see what happens? Or take them and incubate them inside? I donβt want to stress her out.
I was walking by the Fulterton Harbor yesterday and spotted a White American Pekin Duck. Is that possible?? I dont see anything on Merlin Bird ID that would indicate it could be here
There are 2 beautiful Pekin ducks that live on a small ski lake behind my house. They are not "my ducks" per say, but I enjoy them and they frequent my yard daily. I was just walking in my backyard, musing on whether I should put up a small shelter for them. I glanced my way to the water and believe I saw an egg sitting in the water about 8 inches deep. I was going to go in to get a closer look.....when all of a sudden the ducks starting swimming my way. Not wanting to disturb them (or the egg, if it is safe)....I ran to my laptop and am now here asking you kind people for some advice! π·
I want to help save the egg if it is appropriate to do so. Please help! Thank you kind duck lovers!
ps - I am near Orlando, FL, if location makes a difference
He is 4 months old, when i bought him this mf told me its a pekin duck and that it will get white after 3 months. I'm a bit confused, he has white feathers at his wings but rest of the body is brown, is he crossed? Also his feet are orange but his nose is grey. Don't get me wrong, i still love him the way he is but i was just curious if he is a pekin or a crossed duck. His name is pipis and i love him.

How long would you leave a rescued duck in self quarantine? I think I may end it after 15 days. Is that long enough? I took this duck in when her 8 companions were killed by a coyote from a rear yard community pond. The pond was completely fences in with everyone's back yards and they fed them. I am not sure if I would call her wild. Trying to mix her in with the rest of my flock.
I'll preface this by saying that my buddy and I are both white guys, who are quite accomplished amateur cooks, but with little experience cooking in the Chinese tradition.
Thanks to the pandemic, my buddy and I are doing a bit of an "Orphan's Christmas" this year. As a result, we'll be doing Christmas dinner together, along with our partners. My girlfriend, born and raised in Shanghai, has her heart set on Pekin Duck for the dinner. Her idea is to buy one from one of the many good restaurants here in Vancouver, but my buddy and I have been doing our research, and we're starting to think we can pull one off at home. Are we crazy?
In terms of cooking it, I've got a good gas grill, with a rotisserie, so I should be able to crisp up the skin nicely. In terms of prep, the secret seems to be separating the skin from the bird (so the skin can fry in the fat drippings), dry brining it, the spicing, and so forth.
On the flip side, there's a restaurant nearby that will do a very good duck, that I can just pick up and we can concentrate on the rest of the party. That doesn't seem quite as fun.
So Iβm making Kenjiβs Peking duck: https://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2010/09/peking-duck-mandarin-pancakes-plum-sauce-recipe.html
I followed the recipe and did the maltose mix and salt/baking powder yesterday morning. I checked the duck this morning and it hasnβt really dried out. The recipe said it needs to dry 12-36 hours and itβs been 24. I want to cook it tonight; is there anyway to make it dry faster, maybe more salt and baking powder? Iβm worried I did something wrong. Any help would be appreciated!
I am aware that there is a very rare, almost extinct breed of duck that has a very drooped bill but Jerimah duck is not only bigger than all the other Pekins I have ever seen but his beak is drooped, not to the extent of this super rare breed's mind you but I wondered if perhaps others have seen similar? He was born this way and it does not hinder him! He is very healthy and happy :)
