I abused a lot of various substance before I was diagnosed with ADHD, and every time I was unknowingly trying to alleviate my symptoms that come with disease. Ironically, finally getting myself prescribed a normal dose of adderall was what finally made all cravings for this go away, and put me at peace with my sober mindset.
As a result, I feel like I both understand the mind of the so-called βJunkieβ, but also the mind of people who need this medication to function properly. I both see why people are upset that their medication is heavily restriction, and also see why people feel the need to constantly seek out some sort of high or study aid.
I see, probably daily, posts about people understandably being frustrated about the difficulty obtaining meds. But why does their blame always go towards the drug abusers? Is it because they have had their meds stolen from them buy these people, or have had incessant pestering about selling them?
Because the way I see it, people abuse drugs due to some unaddressed need in their life. Either the education system overworks them, or their job overworks them, or they are socially unsatisfied, or they donβt have access to creative outlets, etc. To me, this is a symptom of a wider problem of a society that, as we all understand, does not take their mental health seriously. I see the healthcare system as an extension of this. Not only do they are they uninterested in helping people sustainably on these issues, but they also let a lot of other mental health issues, such as depression or trauma, that leads to the abuse of drugs, go untreated due to lack of money or access or even genuine care.
I just want to know what yaβll think, because in my opinion, this thinking seems to be rooted in the drug war logic of βblame the drug abuserβ and not βblame what has pushed people to abuse drugsβ, which is ironically what led to the restrictions on our meds in the first place.
I feel like both this and onions do the same, making addictive drugs as accessible as alcohol thus making it harder to quit. On the other hand you dont know what you are getting and testing kit is a neccessity.
Opinions?
My impression, which might be completely wrong, is that Americans take a lot more pills and other prescription or over the counter drugs than in other countries. It just seems like doctors prescribe them more easily or for milder illnesses, and most people seem to rush to get drugs at the first hint of a symptom.
Is it cultural? Is it because of price/tax issues?
So I took around 540 mg of dxm and am currently tripping. I think I shouldβve done this a different day because it just isnβt hitting right. Right now Iβm listening to Spotify and having a thought that I donβt really like drugs except weed. Iβm currently out of carts and donβt know when Iβll get more and itβs irritating I love weed so much. And only did this because Iβm out Iβd buy flower just the smell makes hard to hide and it seems to go faster. With all of this it makes me realize my love for weed and how much I miss it so I really hope I get more soon.
One quote that sticks out, " He was so sick of people talking about the future. So he carved the word βnowβ into his arm with aΒ knife. And he sat down at the piano and wrote βEverything MeansΒ Nothing to Meβ as the blood was dripping down his arm.β

Hello fellow reddit peeps, for some background i was a freshman in high school so this was a few years ago, i also suffer from extremely low iron and at the time it was so bad i would randomly faint. please keep in mind iβm dyslexic so donβt judge my spelling grammer extβ¦
So it was about 3rd period and the day was already really bad well i had fainted all of my teachers knew of my medical condition and we had a routine for when this happened that was discussed with my mom, my teachers, and EN (entitled nurse) so my teacher had someone walk me down to the nurse so we could call my mom and i could lie down take some meds and be on my way. well this day i fainted while standing and hit my head on a desk giving me an awful headache, i tell the nurse and ask for my meds (tylonal and iron pills) and crackers and sports drink (all dropped off by my mother and stored at the school for when i had these ep) EN already didnβt like me but decided today that she was gonna accuse me of faking, refused to give me my meds or let me lay down i couldnβt even call my mom as for i didnβt have my phone. EN then proceeded to shine a flashlight into my eyes not even 5 minutes after i regained consciousness, then got upset when i closed my eyes and screamed in my face to stop closing my eyes then asked if i had a problem, being annoyed by the situation i replied βno shit i just fainted and youβre shining a bright flashlight in my eyesβ she then held me down by forcing me to lay down sitting on top of me (this women was 4x the size of me) this next series of events still scares me to this day, EN- youβre pupils are extremely dialed what drugs did you take me- i didnβt take any drugs i fainted my eyes do that after i faint EN starts screaming in my face insisting iβm on drugs (while still holding me down) i try to push her off me and she starts screaming on her walky for the principal, campus cops, and coaches and says iβm assaulting her and that iβm on drugs to wrap up the story i get drug tested come back clean get my meds and snacks get a write up for βbeing disrespectfulβ end up calling my mom bc iβm having a anxiety attack and balling my eyes out even after principal tried to gaslight me into not telling her, mom comes to get me is pissed i had a concussion and the rest of hs i was home schooled
sorry this is so long if you read all the way to the end thank you have an amazing day/night edit: just wanna add for those saying itβs a lie or thereβs holes in the story or i w

95,000 people die from alcohol related causes every year in America. This is the third highest cause of death in America. 1st is tobacco, 2nd is poor diet and exercise habits. It causes more deaths than all other drugs combined.
Itβs one of the only drugs and by far the most mainstream that actually causes you to be violent, and is a factor in large amounts of violent crime/ domestic abuse.
The life expectancy of someone hospitalized with an alcohol problem is about 50. Almost 30 years shorter than the average life expectancy in America.
28% of driving deaths in America are caused by alcohol.
Itβs the only drug that has withdrawals that can actually kill you.
There are many more reasons that I have but those are statistically backed and not opinionated. Itβs dangerous and absolutely terrible for you. The only positive it provides is more fun social interactions, which literally any drug used in moderation can provide, the difference being that itβs not taboo to drink a beer or 2, while itβs taboo to casually do some heroin.
Also, who likes being hungover?
Worth noting you can make most of the same arguments for tobacco, but in my experiences tobacco is typically more frowned upon than drinking.
Edit: I understand that prohibition didnβt work. Iβm not saying alcohol being illegal is feasible. Iβm just saying that I donβt think it should be legal. Plenty of other drugs are illegal and people donβt throw a fit
Edit 2: Yβall are bringing up good points and counterpoints but itβs too much stuff for me to reply to. The war on drugs and prohibition are great reasons as to why this wonβt work. Donβt have much of an argument there.
Iβm not totally opposed to the idea of all drugs being legal and providing medical care and safe spaces for addicts. This has worked in other places around the world but the American health system is so screwed up that it would still just fuck people over. Mainly just because itβs so for profit and unaffordable for so many people that I donβt think this would help anybody. That is an issue with medical system as a whole and not with the idea of drugs being legal.
Iβm seeing people bring up caffeine and sugar. People really need to educate themselves on the negative effects of both of those drugs. The long terms effects of those are silent killers, mainly sugar. Itβs pretty unavoidable and not terrible in moderation the typical American diet has wayyyyyy too much sugar for anybody t
