Orthopedic question: growth plate partially closed after injury

My daughter, female, 11, otherwise healthy, had ORIF for a stage 4 salter Harris fracture in December. Today was her follow-up to check on the growth plate. Half did close, but her surgeon said that everything is still straight for now. We will follow up every 6 months until she is 14. I know that the risk is that the bone could grow unevenly, but I wonder if a partially closed growth plate ever ends up being OK or if it always means surgery eventually? Thanks!
