A list of puns related to "Origin of replication"
The choices I have are:
a. maintenance of multiple copies of a plasmid
b. allows integration of plasmid into bacterial genome
c. controls uptake of plasmid by bacterium
d. drives cloned gene transcription
e. drives cloned gene translation
I believe the answer is A, since the origin of replication is responsible for replication (and since plasmids are supposed to self-replicate into multiple copies once inserted into a host cell). But I would like some confirmation. :) thank you!
I've come across this technique here and there, but the actual mechanism that prevents an origin of replication from being active at high temperature isn't something I've been able to find. This is really just curiosity. I have no plans ts-ori's in the near future. But it's buggin' me, I gotta know how it works! Is it just one of those phenomena that we've learned to leverage without knowing exactly why it happens?
Any quick link or reference would be great, if anyone's got one!
The question stems from this article.
Some researchers have replicated the study, published in Science in 2008, that found some correlations between political attitudes and psychological traits. The original study was quite influential and cited in popular media (I believe I saw it mentioned on Reddit). Now Science refuses to even submit the new replication for peer review, suggesting to publish it some other less prominent journal.
Based on the side of the story told in the Slate article, this situation seems completely unethical to me. A refutation of any study should be at least as prominent as the original study. Am I missing something? What would be a good argument in favor of Science's position in this debate?
I'd like to add that the original study had quite low sample size and hence statistical significance, and if its review were more stringent in the first place, it wouldn't have been published, and this situation wouldn't have arisen at all.
I'm looking for game-winning (or as close to) targets for kicking a rite of replication. Ideas I currently have includem [[Lathliss, dragon queen]], [[Grey Merchant of asphodel]], and [[Scourge of Valkas]]. If one doesn't mind being awful, [[Reaper King]] could be counted.
Does anyone have any other particularly juicy targets?
