So I started watching Assassination Classroom in the sub recently and was confused when I was scrolling on different forms that had people saying Karma had a canon crush on Okuda and I kept reading that he said it in the anime during the 1st field trip because I vividly remembered him saying something else. So I rewatched the scene (once again in sub) and then I decided to see the difference in the dubbed version. The way Karma words things in the dub makes the entire thing seem completely different.
In the sub Karma states: βHmm... Okuda, maybe?β and then he was asked why he states βI bet she could make some sketchy drugs or chloroform-really kick my mischief making up a notch, ya know?β
In the Dub though Karma states: (The first part is the same as the sub but his explanation is stated differently) βSheβs a demon with chemistry, think of all the concoctions she could brew up to enhance my shenanigans...we would be a match made in heavenβ
When I watched the sub the first time I had assumed that this scene was just meant to show that Karma was sadistic and romantic relationships in general werenβt something that mattered to him. The way he worded it sounded very flippant and more focused on his pranks then Okuda herself. This differs from the dub where he spends more time talking about Okudaβs skills not to mention the βmatch made in heavenβ line (which is not in the anime sub).
I think thatβs where most of the confusion comes from (from anime watchers at least as I have not been able to read the manga, so if Karma explicitly stated he is interested in Okuda in the manga please let me know!)
