I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

In the past I often analyzed single techs, often under a more or less exclusion of outside factors. I want to write about three pages per week and these outside factors would bloat my page count into infinity. So lets continue with this trend and have a look at a whole tech-branch at once, answering the age old question: "Why, Dane? Why?" Just kidding. I am well aware that the job of a game developer is a hard one. No matter how many hours you invest in playtesting a game, omce the game is out in the open, its a drop in the bucket. Just think about it: There are at the moment (November 21th 2021) 17.900 players on this reddit. If each of this players just plays a single game of TI, clocking in at lets say a quick 6 hour game, we are talking about 107.400 manhours of playing, or about 12.5 years. No group of playtesters can compete with this. For this reason I will try to keep my nagging to the minimum and instead try to grasp what the purpose of this Branch was supposed to be. Basically the question will be: "If I play a 100% vanilla faction that heavily and exclusively (plus the matching unit upgrades) invests into this Branch, what will it be good at?" Afterwards I will voice some opinions how a homebrew could improve on that. And I will start with my favorite, the Cybernetic-branch or Y-branch. My assumption is a theoretical Vanilla faction without special abilities, starting with the Y0 tech and researching one tech per round, gaining the "pure" unit upgrade (Space Dock II in this case) as an addition (Technology Primary for example). I will not discuss mixed unit upgrades and I will only shortly write the PoK technologies.

Often seen at the bottom of the "What should I tech?"-recommendations, the Y-branch is in a funny spot. Needed to tech things like Warsuns or Dread II, but only grudgingly so. Starting with a Y-tech is generally seen as a good thing, as both early game techs are handy, but having faction tech deep into Y, is generally seen as a negative. Unless its a gamebreaking tech like Quantum Datahub Node or Mirror Computing. In that case the Y-tech you need beforehand is seen as a tax. PoK has improved Y by a good margin, moving away from techs that are offering just "more" of something, towards unique effects. Lets compare the two Y0 techs available.
