A list of puns related to "Nepalese customary units of measurement"
I'm working on a sci-fantasy world that uses cows for the base mass unit, whales for distance, and zetta-yotta-planck-time-units for time and my head hurts trying to calculate and convert the planet masses and orbital periods pls don't do this to yourselfs
You fucking know Iβm right, you canβt run from the truth.
I read this article on the historical units of measurement that were used in Spain. This makes me wonder. Are there any of the pre-metric system customary units in Spain being used today?
I recently got a job working for a research lab. I am working as an undergraduate and I do a variety of tasks ranging from running experiments to cleaning dishes. When ever I run experiments the measurements are always in metric. It is not a problem to figure it out but I would like to change my thought process from trying to convert Imperial to metric to just thinking in metric. Any tips would be appreciated.
A (s)entimeter
Length
β’ no β meters and their prefixes are fine
Weight
β’ ounce - 100g (like the dutch ons)
β’ pound - 500g
β’ stone - hehe british ppl lol (maybe 10kg)
β’ hundredweight - srsly who uses this?(100kg for the 5 ppl that use this unit)
β’ ton - 1000kg (metric tonne just minus the -ne)
Volume
β’ fluid ounce - 100mL
β’ cup - 250mL
β’ 12 fl oz - 375mL (most common drink can size)
β’ pint - 500mL
β’ quart - 1L
β’ half-gallon - 2L (I mean we already got 2L pop)
β’ gallon - 4L
idk what else. am open to suggestions tho
Is there an ANSI standard similar to that of ISO 2768. Going to be starting a new job where everything is US Customary. Iβve been used to metric and have used ISO 2768 for limitations and deviations of tolerances. Is there anything similar to this? Tried looking online but hard to navigate through all the different standards. Thanks
Like, Jesus, it's like they burst a vessel whenever they see someone use the big, bad, scary US customary units.
Is it more complicated than metric units? Absolutely. But most Americans don't cry themselves to sleep every night just because we use those units instead of metric.
And on top of that, aren't Europeans supposed to be more educated than us? They shouldn't really be complaining about having to do simple math to convert since they're so "smart".
Plus, Americans learn both customary AND metric in schools. Especially when it comes to science; and in college even more so. When I lived in Europe, they had only metric rulers because they're too stubborn to learn anything other than what they use and think they can force it on everyone (just look at their imperialist history).
Like, they're not even the ones having to deal with customary units either. It's us using, but they feel like telling us what we should using? What the hell is thst? The average American lives just fine using customary units with no adverse health effects. So just leave us alone.
BTC has Satoshi. ETH has gwei. Are there smaller units of measurement for ALGO? I was thinking there would be one for .001 as it is the transaction fee. Has one been designated already? If not, any suggestions?
Iβm Australian and used to working in kgs but decided to switch to lbs to shake things up a bit. My scale can easily switch over to lbs with the press of a button so I thought why not. Iβm not sure Iβll explain this properly but I feel like because my scale counts in .x increments that weighing in lbs gets me a slightly more precise measurement than kgs.
Iβve been trying to lose this weight for everrr and I feel like switching to a slightly more confusing unit of measurement has sort of reset things in my brain and it feels like a fresh start in a way π And Iβm not as triggered by the numbers because I donβt have any memories or associations with them like I do with the kg numbers.
Itβs fun getting to watch the numbers on the scale move around a lot more and the satisfaction of losing a couple of lbs is making me want to stay disciplined and keep going because Iβm getting more of those small wins.
Just thought Iβd put the idea out there in case it helps anyone.
