A list of puns related to "Methods of divination"
For example outside of the Eddas (in which I recall where people or the gods would carve runes and perhaps put them under people's pillow) there seems to be historical/archaelogical evidence of them using methods of divination such as throwing twigs on the ground or even cutting the throat of a sacrificial animal and seeing how the blood splattered on a surface, perhaps indicating something. Sometimes something even as simple as tripping while marching to battle may have been an omen you were going to get toasted in battle.
But outside of the actual methods themselves what were these practices used for?
Were they used to prophecy the future?
Were they used to obtain advice?
Anything else?
If they did obtain advice and/or prophecy the future through the practices could divination be considered a form of divine revelation?
Thanks.
Could one get into serious legal or ecclesiastical trouble for possessing it taking part in tarot or similar games and practices?
Requires development of capability and Psychic Harmonic State for self probing of nonpremeditated
(Edit) Thanks for all the responses! My favorite is the I-Ching. Although it's the first and only one I tried so far.
I've been reading into several divination methods recently and a couple of things recently occured to me, and i was wondering if anyone else had thought about this at all, or had any opinions.
So i figured I'd figure think of some new ones, here are some of my favorites id love to hear everyone's thoughts. One is white noise on a television screen, it seems creepy in a ark room or sure, but white noise is just all the channels coming through at once, and it's very easy to see all kind of objects in it if you stare intently for even a little while. Another i thought of is using a premade playlist in place of a tarot deck, pick a song that reminds you of the question, then just turn shuffle on and off till it feels right then hit skip to draw your answer. Does anybody else use any unorthodox methods like this?
I was working on an interesting character design that I wanted to post to celebrate Samhain, and found my druid caster level is only 17, precluding the character from having any 9th level spell slots. For thematic reasons, I cannot drop the 1 level dip into Cloistered Cleric, nor the 2 lost caster levels from Sovereign Speaker.
The build levels wise is: Cloistered Cleric 1/Urban Godai Druid 4/Contemplative 6/Sovereign Speaker 9.
Are there any outs to this problem (feats, items, traits, et cetera)?
Edit: got some great answers; Favored Prestige Class, Prestigious Spellcaster, and being in a guild from Inner Sea Magic can solve all these problems. If you are interested, I created a post with my build here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Pathfinder_RPG/comments/dpt0n1/happy_samhain_cloistered_cleric_1urban_godai/
Thanks all for helping out!
This is a real discussion. The [redacted]/Muted/Banned memes can be fun, but we're here to solve a puzzle. Let's please skip those for this post.
In our previous post on fishing we promised some videos on areas of our research. A few streamers have graciously volunteered their time for us.
Today we're talking about Baited Expectations. A set of 8 cards returns a unique fishing item. Baited Expectations is naturally found in Desert Spring, though it's uncommon.
We gave a few hundred cards to each of mbXtreme and Slipperyjim8. Check out their videos to see what they received and hear some fun commentary on fishing.
Additional info on our work with Baited Expectations:
All total, we've documented ~400 set turn-ins (~3200 cards) of Baited Expectations.
Here is the distribution of loot so far, including the sets opened in the videos above: spoiler.
There is no profit here; this is for science! We end up buying at an average of around 7c/card since the market is so thin. We've burned approximately ~22,000 chaos on this task so far.
Based on the prior probabilities of other card sets' rare outcomes, we expect we must turn in thousands of sets of Baited Expectations to be confident we have a comprehensive list of all possible outcomes.
We do not think Baited Expectations can give Angler's Plait. Baited Expectation specifies it returns a unique fishing item, not a corrupted unique fishing item. Angler's Plait is always corrupted.
Despite hundreds of turn-ins, we've never seen Reefbane. We've heard rumors that Reefbane can result, but we've seen no hard evidence. Either Reefbane is very rare, or we're very unlucky, or it's not actually a possibility. If in fact Reefbane does not qualify for Baited Expectations's "Unique Fishing Item" class, that's very important information.
Huge thanks again to mbXtreme and Slipperyjim8 for helping document our efforts. Special thanks to SlothNumber1 who did a huge

Electromancy has long been used as a word for a lightning-mage, someone who uses electricity to fight and defend. It's regarded as an agressive form of magic in most canons, not really being useful for anything besides combat, like the manipulation of fire would be, for instance (heat food, boil water, warm yoursself in winter, thaw ice, etc)
However, technically, "-mancy" means "divination by the means of", and the manipulation of an element should technically be called "-urgy" or "-kinesis".
Divination, then, is mostly seen as the magic of seeing the future, but technically, it simply means the gathering of information.
Now, computers run on electricity. It is the energy form that makes them active, and without them, they would he useless hunks of metal. It makes sense, then, that their defining symbolic element isn't the hardware or the software, but the power that runs them. Electricity. Lightning.
So someone who divines information through these machines, which run on electricity, could (big technically) be called an Electromancer.
So Gwent Masters has a very interesting divination challenge where you can try and pick the winners of matches throughout the tournament. There is even some meteorite powder up for grabs for getting picks right, and some of the premium leader skins. But how likely are you to get each reward?
Warning: the following post will be extremely probability heavy - I will do my best to explain my methodology as I go and if you see any flaws please correct me in comments. Also game will refer to a single game in a Best of 5 and the full Best of 5 may be referred to as series/match/Bo5.
All winners correct (150 meteorite powder)

Realistically, someone in each match would be favoured to win, however this is hard to tell. I will be using a 50% chance for each competitor winning each game/series. This is because of the difficulty in modelling each players probabilities as well as a huge lack of information. We haven't seen these players play in a long time - tournaments are quite infrequent and the last Open took place before even Merchants of Ofir.
Now in terms of predicting all winners, we start by accepting there is a 1/2 or 50% chance of each player winning each best of 5 (Bo5). Even if we assume that each individual game in the Bo5 has a 50% winrate for each player, the overall probabilities remain at 50% for the whole series which we will check later.
Tournament bracket (7 total matches)
There are also 7 matches throughout the tournament. So with a 1/2 chance of predicting each match and 7 matches we get (1/2)^(7) which equals 1/128 or 0.78% chance of picking the right bracket*.* These odds already aren't looking great.
Correct winner and score (50 meteorite powder per match)

Now this is a lot harder than guessing just the right winner. In theory, there are 6 outcomes for the Bo5: 3-0, 3-1, 3-2, 2-3, 1-3 and 0-3. Now there is a 1/6 chance of getting each outcome, and a 1/6 chance (or 16.67%) of picking the right result, right? Well, not all outcomes are equally likely.
To model a Bo5, I want y

A long grind on my main using incandescent long ago to 120 to be in the top 90 to get the cape, followed by about 2 years of ancestral across all 3 accounts at different times. Maybe 10 caches total to close gaps when needed. Glad to finally be done with the bulk of the grind and only 4m left to go to finish the cape off on the last account.

I imagine I am first to a milestone like this for Div, and I am happy to hold it.
Id like to thank my desk job for paying me while I was doing this on the side, without that I don't think I would have gone past 304m.
Before the latest patch i got nearly every blight a divination chest or more with a lot of stacked decks. Now i only got chest every forth or sixth blight and most of the time it only drops bad cards instead of stacked decks.
Hi! I'm highly considering playing a Hobgoblin Divination Wizard.
What is your experience with Divination Wizards? Fun stories? Interesting characters? etc. etc?
What do ya'll think of this. Is the book kosher?
Anyway itโs just folk magic at its simplest and finest(: I donโt know if this a good subreddit for this but I figure folk magic and folklore are cut from the same cloth and I hope my video is interesting and informative to anyone out there(: Iโd suggest watching the full series but itโs okay if you just want to see this one๐ https://youtu.be/9ZO7A6fNEjM
So my players are on the search for a lost ranger in the woods, and they gave up after realizing they had no leads. They headed back to the city to find a spellcaster to locate the ranger, but none seem to have the appropriate magic to do so, except for the Duke, who has a two-week waiting list for visitations. So my four 4th-level players (an Aarakocra Cleric of Light, a Phampyr Warlock of the Fiend, a Half-elf Swashbuckler, and a Drow Samurai) thought they should be able to cast the spell themselves if they find out how to do it.
I want to reward them for the creativity of this idea but I don't want it to be a regular thing. Any tips?
I hope it doesnโt disappoint(: this is just the best way I connect with my roots and help others connect to theirs. Even non witchy people have found some value in this series because I genuinely love my culture and have a passion for teaching people about it. Coming from Appalachia is a gift, an honor and sharing my culture from there is the gift I want to give to everyone I possibly can ๐ https://youtu.be/9ZO7A6fNEjM
