A list of puns related to "Mercedes Benz 5G Tronic transmission"
I recently came into the possession of a 2008 Jeep Gand Cherokee WK; with the Mercedes Benz OM642 CRD 3.0L V6 diesel engine; it also has the Mercedes 5G Tronic Transmission. The vehicle has 322,000 km (200,000 miles); I am in Ontario, Canada.
I have no idea when the last transmission fluid change occurred, the vehicle had moved around alot but was taken to shops yearly before my ownership; the records are just not as in depth.
It shifts fine at operating temperature and highway speeds; it is a bit slower during warm up on lets say a -5°C (23°F) day.
Should I have a transmission fluid change? Why or why not?
I’ve tried doing my research specific to my car’s forums, but there isn’t much of a specific solution that works across the board. Some users say that a dealer update resolved their problems but Im not entirely convinced that they’re referring to the same problem as mine. That being said, a plethora of users on the internet have complained about this exact issue on vehicles built on this platform. I did get my TCU updated by the dealer recently, but the clunk off the line hasn’t been fixed.
This is what I usually notice:
When the car is cold it gets off the line well. The throttle pedal seems tight right away and power delivery is smooth.
Let the car warm up after about 2-3 minutes of driving in the summer and every time I have to move off a complete stop I notice:
The only way to get around this is to be soft on the throttle pedal for the first 1-1.5 second and then gradually apply pressure. Also, surprisingly when auto-engine stop/start is enabled, it gets off the line smooth. This is counterintuitive, and doesn’t make sense to me because you’d think a running engine would make for a smoother launch. The throttle dead zone turns the engine on and the remainder results in a smooth launch.
I remember reporting to the dealer about 1.5 years ago that my car is clunky off stop-start situations, but not necessarily a full extended stop situation. Back then I was less knowledgeable about cars and they said that it was a DCT thing and I just said okay. But as far as I can remember this problem has lasted for atleast the last 1-1.5 years.
I’ve read some theories from people on why VW/Audi DSGs don’t necessarily do this because they’ve had years to develop this type of transmission, while Mercedes only started making this in 2013 so they’re still learning. I don’t know what I think about that, but I thought I should mentio
... keep reading on reddit ➡The car in question is W204 C 220 CDI. Any suggestions how to extract all oil from the transmission?
This video is the closest I can find on youtube, however it mixes an old oil with the now one, basically diluting it indefinitely. I wonder is there a better way?
Hello, I have the opportunity to buy a pretty nice W211 E270 CDI with some serious mileage (almost 600k km) for next to no money. The car is very solid all around, but I'm kind of worried about the transmission going bad. The car has been serviced very well since it was new. How long does the 722.6 usually last? Anyone have any high-mile experience (preferably from European taxi drivers and the like)?
Thanks.
I heard that majority of the high end executive cars are now automatics in Europe and manual is only common in cheaper cars. Is this true for your country?
