I'm a mixed-race actress living in Los Angeles. I got my start in college, at the University of Missouri Columbia, in theater and dance, and lived for several years in New York City doing theater & commercials before moving to LA. I am adopted, and serve as an advocate for adoption awareness. I moved to LA to further my acting career, to do more TV and film, and my biggest thing I've done was the ABC Talent Showcase - where ABC picks 12 actors a year that they believe in, and they allow us to do a big showcase for them, so that was 2 years ago, so since then I've had multiple opportunities, including guesting on HBO's THE NEWSROOM, playing Muriel in KINGDOM for DirecTV with Nick Jonas, and my lifetime movie that I star in, MEGACHURCH MURDER just premiered 2 weeks ago. I've also just done LIFE'S A DRAG, which I'm a series regular on, and we just wrapped that, and I also have coming out later this spring an indie movie called FRENCH DIRTY opposite my ABC showcase partner, Wade Allain-Marcus.

For a group of people who claim to follow a guy who said to love others as you love yourself these people are pretty racist.
-It's all about pro-life and "sanctity of life" for abortion, but when Latinos come across the border for a better life then it's time to separate the children from their mothers no matter how young.
-Listen to sermons every week about Jesus helping the poor and needy, but when Muslim refugees are seeking asylum it's time put a travel ban on Muslim majority countries, or rather a ban on brown skin majority countries in the Middle East.
-Mask mandates are government oppression because "Jesus wouldn't wear a mask," but when a Black person is killed by a cop they "should have complied."
-Support Israel so Jesus can come back, but nevermind Israel's ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.
-When their White son is caught with drugs he doesn't need to be in trouble with the law "he just needs to pray on it". But when Black people and Latinos sell drugs so they can feed their kids and pay rent that month you better lock them up and throw away the key.
-The Taliban is awful for their insistence that women stay home and not have any rights, but when White Evangelicals do it with their women it's just "God's plan" because only brown people can be abusive, right?
-The Soviet Union's oppression of Christians is awful, but Native American's being forcefully converted, having their land stolen, and being genocided was ok in the end because "at least they found Christ and it's not like they were using that land anyway."
-How dare Colin Kaepernick kneel during the national anthem because this is "God's country" and he's disrespecting the "Christian values" America was founded on, but someone waving a confederate flag is "heritage, not hate."
-Ken Ham's conspiracy theories about the world being 6,000 years old are ok to teach in public schools, but even talking about the idea of critical race theory being taught is excessively politically correct.
-They listen to sermons about loving your neighbor every Sunday and will tell you they love people of all races and skin colors but are very insistent their kids go to that private Christian school where the ONLY Black people you see there are janitors. In 1965, the year after President Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act, the number of private "Christian" schools began to explode and I'm sure you can guess why.

I'm glad to do my past to help promote podcasts, and it often leads me to some truly undiscovered gems. That brings us to the podcast we're taking a look at today. We're taking a look at season one of Poe Theatre on the Air
Poe Theatre on the Air is a production of the National Edgar Allan Poe Theatre . Each episode is an adaption of a different Edgar Allan Poe short story. While by-and-large faithful to the source material, the writers make sure to put their own spin on the stories. This largely relates to the framing device. The framing device is that you, the listener, are a guest at the asylum of Dr. Maillard. He has developed a radical new treatment to cure the mentally crippled, and he considers all of the inmates his children who have lost their way. Each of the inmates are the protagonist of a different Edgar Allen Poe short story, and they will be sharing their tales with us.

Not to brag, but my reviews always seem to be reasonably popular with the other members, and I have gained a few fans. One of these fans, named Alex Zavistovich, reach out to me about a podcast he's involved with. Obviously, that podcast is Poe Theatre on the Air. I had a few reviews to take care of, but I agreed to give it a listen and review it later.
I'm glad that I did, because I was pleasantly surprised by what I found. The team is going for the shared universe approach with Poe's short stories. Even Dr. Maillard and his asylum hail from a Poe story. Specifically, he's from "The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether." That was always one of my favorite Poe stories. Poe Theatre on the Air is a fully performed audio drama with actors, music, and sound effects. This gives it a key advantage over a podcast that would just read the stories. The language used in Edgar Allen Poe's writing is a bit archaic by modern standards, and that can be a stumbling block for a lot of people. By contrast, the dialogue and bits of narration Poe Theatre on the Air uses are more modern, while still being a bit formal when needed. This allows the listeners to really focus on and enjoy the content of the stories.
