A list of puns related to "Medical social work"
I am a couple of months from graduation for my MSW and I plan to focus on getting my LMSW ASAP, and I'm hoping to get an MSW job in a hospital doing medical social work.
Are there any hospital social workers that can give me any advice/tips on breaking into this field? I'm also interested in what the day to day is like. I know it varies, but any info you can give me may be helpful.
Thanks in advance.
Last December a social worker showed up at my home with a police officer. I asked what the complaint was against me and she refused to say. The police officer threatened to arrest me for "being a smartass and asking to many questions." He then kicked my door in and entered. None of this was with my consent which I'm sure goes against my 4th amendment.
She took pictures then left. She came back on January 9th. This time alone and I let her in. She was nice this time, looked around and even joked about how she hated some college classes.
I have not heard from her since that day. But today a sheriff showed up to deliver papers. Shes taking me to court saying my home was "deplorable, nasty and other not true things. Shes also stating that I refuse my children medical help.
Now this brother's me. If my kids sneeze they are at the doctor's. My youngest is disabled and we go to a cardiologist and neurologist out of state ALOT. I have paperwork from every doctor with the days of the appointment. My pediatrician is upset with this social worker.
She printed folder's full of paperwork for every visit they have ever had. I don't understand any of this.
The sheriff is a family friend and informed me that numerous families are upset with this woman. They have basically been treated the same way as I have.
I go to court Monday. I plan on bringing the folder's from the doctor's with me. Is there anything else I should know first? I called the courthouse to request a lawyer but was refused since "I have not said guilty or non guilty."
I do not want this woman working my case anymore. She is also my sister in law case worker. She removed my niece for 2 months and they just received her back. What can I do? My home is not dirty, has no holes or leaks and my kids do see doctor's. What can I expect Monday?
I am currently a medical social worker in an IP setting (almost a year) and a newer SW. Iβve recently began clinical supervision (internal and free). However I find myself feeling like supervision is the only reason to remain in this position. I honestly donβt feel fulfilled with anything going on in this position. I thought Iβd have more time to interact with my patients and families and provide some form of SW service to them (resources, counseling) but it seems like all I am able to provide is discharge planning (transitioning people to rehab, SNFs, setting up a ride) . Itβs hard for me to really spend time with people because of all the other pieces of the position (charting, daily meetings etc). I also feel like I am expected to know a lot of medical related info that I do not know. I have some basic understanding but thereβs a lot of intricacies that go over my head and I struggle to understand. Do any other medical social workers struggle with this? How do/did you get through it? Any input is appreciated!
Hi! I'm posting to hear anyone else experience and possibly seek some advice. I'm going into my last year of my BSW program and do an advance track MSW program hopefully. I really would like to work in a hospital, preferably inpatient. My family hasn't been supportive of my choice to become a social worker and they are constantly bombarding me with comments like "you aren't living up to your potential", "you won't make any money and won't be able to afford having children", "you'll burn out and have to do something else", "social workers don't actually help anymore, they just do paperwork". I learned how to handle these comments but honestly they hurt, especially when coming from family. I've always tried to be an advocate for people and saw and spoke up about injustices since I was a young child. My family always thought that I would become a lawyer, but I felt social work was a better for me.
To give a little background, I live in a Midwestern state with a pretty low cost of living and my soon to be husband is a carpenter/construction worker who makes over 60k. I think both of our salaries together would work and could support a small family at least. If anyone could share their experience and or give me ANY advice, perspective about family not being supportive and also I'd love to hear from social workers who work in hospitals!!!!
Hi everyone!
I will be starting my MSW in the fall with a specialization in medical social work.
I am curious how those in this field feel about their current position and what they typically do throughout the day. Any insights or advice you can share from your experiences would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Hi everyone!
I recently just accepted a medical social work job on an inpatient team in pretty big hospital. Really excited as this is basically my dream job. Anyone have any tips on how to handle large case loads and grief work? Iβve only worked in an outpatient setting so Iβm sure this will be a learning curve in my career. I appreciate any help I can get!! Thanks :)
Hey r/socialwork,
I'm currently debating changing my field from Child Welfare to Medical Social Work but am having some reservations. I thought it may be helpful to reach out to you all and see if anyone has experience in that field. What have you thought of it? Do you enjoy it? What does the work load look like? I'd be looking at places in the North Bay Area, Ca. Thanks!
Hello! I'm currently a Sophomore in college, and I'm interested in getting my Master's Degree in Social Work in order to pursue a career as a Medical Social Worker. I specifically would like to work within the Special Needs Community, and help parents cope with the diagnosis of their child. However, I want to ask what a typical day is as Medical Social Worker specifically in the hospital setting. Also, any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!
Hi guys just looking for some advice if any. I have a 4 year old son that I look after full time due to his mother not being able to look after him correctly, and her mental health was terrible, she tried to kill herself many times and my boy witnessed this and she was violentand abusive to me.
But now social services are all over me as she has made allegations I am a bad father and an addict. I was put on heavy opiat meds from my doctor and ssri meds witch made me feel horrible I have now taken the medical cannabis route and have ditched those nasty meds and I have never felt better.
Now it looks like I will be going to court to fight to keep my boy with me. AS SHE DOES NOT WANT HIM WITH ME. What I really want to know is will this affect me being able to look after my boy in social services eyes. My mum only found out today that I used medical cannabis and has urged me to stop as I will loose my son please any help guys would be appreciated thanks.
So basically this is where I'm at at the moment. Thankfully I'm not at my worst.
With my health and doctor visits, I'm working very part time. Problem is that I'm still struggling with paying for basic needs and I haven't been seeing my doctors and specialist as much as I should because I dont have health insurance and always need to save up for each visit. I already receive a discounted price for primary care and medication which I'm grateful for.
I dont know much about my options. Where should I start? Any suggestions for certain programs or websites with helpful information?
You would also think, in such a sensitive profession, that lack of sleep (which includes several interruptions to sleep) could lead to poor decision-making and depleted fine motor skills- not the best combination.
Google wasnβt helpful. Thanks for any and all explanations
Hi, I'm a junior in a BSW program. I'm at a point in my life where I'm doubting if this is really the path that I want to go in. I need some advice. In the future, I'm interested in working as a social worker at the hospital. I want to know what exactly do they do? What does a normal day at work look like?
I'm considering this as my next (long-term) career move and would love to talk to anyone who has been through it. I've been looking at MBA programs with a healthcare administration focus.
I was talking to a private practice social worker and she works from 8-3, 4 days a week.
Another does shifts in medical social work, 13 hour shifts, 3 days a week.
How common are these kinds of schedules? Is it difficult to have a good lifestyle in social work?
