A list of puns related to "Matt Parcell"
Would any others be happy signing these players?
Intro
With the buzz that guys like Leslie Frazier (21-32-1 in MIN), Dan Quinn (44-42 in ATL), and Todd Bowles (24-40 in NYJ) have gotten, I thought I'd take a look at how retreads of previous failures perform in new environments. A narrative is often painted negatively on these coaches: "Why would I want Leslie Frazier when he was terrible with the Vikings?". Just as much so, a positive narrative is also told: "Todd Bowles has been through this before. He has learned a lot since his days with the Jets". Which of these narratives holds more true?
I took a look at every man that has held a non-interim HC job since 2000 and determined whether that coach was a retread of a failure. That is, before this coach was hired here, was he fired from another NFL HC job where he went .500 or worse? This is every coach from best to worst record with their second/third teams.
Bill Belichick: 36-44 with CLE (1991-95), 254-98 with NE (2000-Present)
Let's start with the cream of the crop. Billy B had a rough go in Cleveland. He was hired after 6 years under Parcells as the DC, a stretch that saw the Giants never dip below a top 10 defense and concluded with back to back top 2 scoring units. He did have a playoff win in his 4th season as HC, but Belichick was fired after a 5-11 season that saw the Browns go on a 1-7 run to close out the year. It was his 4th losing season in 5 years. The Browns then moved to Baltimore.
Of course, all of that is fairly forgotten in the Belichick narrative. Belichick did have two separate stints as the Jets' HC, but compiled a 0-0 record after coaching a grand total of 0 games for the team. He would go on to win 6 Superbowls with the Patriots and become a pretty decent coach.
Gary Kubiak: 61-64 with HOU (2006-13), 21-11 with DEN (2015-16)
From one great to another, Kubiak was always respected as a HC, even in the bad times. He brought stability to a young Texans team that knew nothing of a winning culture. He made a franchise QB out of Matt Schaub. He inherited a HoFer in Andre Johnson and found more incredible talent guys like Watt, Jonathan Joseph, and Arian Foster. Unfortunately, his time in Houston concluded with a tumultuous 2-11 season that gave Houston the 1st overall pick. He was fired before the end of the season and moved into an OC role with Baltimore.
He found his calling when the Broncos came knocking. Anxious to win a Superbowl before the end of Peyton Manning's career, the team came to Kubiak -- who had led a t

Boomer Esiason was a native of the town of East Islip on Long Island, and he played college football at Maryland, leading them to an ACC title his senior year. The Bengals made him a second round pick in the 1984 draft. Esiason started four games his rookie year behind Ken Anderson and went 3-1. His strong performance left the Bengals confident that he was the man who could replace Anderson, the aging former MVP, and they made Esiason their primary starter in 1985. The Bengals missed the playoffs in each of Esiasonβs first four seasons in the league. However, despite the fact that the Bengals missed the playoffs, Esiason was still named to the 1986 Pro Bowl after throwing for 3959 yards and 24 touchdowns.
Esiasonβs career turned a corner in 1988. The Bengals suddenly became the best team in the league. Rookie running back Ickie Woods rushed for 1000 yards and 15 touchdowns, while wide receiver Eddie Brown caught 1200 yards. For his part, Esiason threw for 3500 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. The Bengals stormed to a 12-4 record and took the top seed in the AFC. For leading the best offense in the NFL that year, Esiason was named the 1988 league MVP. They scored wins over the Seahawks and Jim Kellyβs Bills to reach Super Bowl XXIII, where they faced Joe Montana and the 49ers for a rematch of Super Bowl XVI. Despite being the most electric team in the league that year, the Bengals would not be able to topple the dynasty, although they almost pulled it off. Esiason had the Bengals clinging to a 16-13 lead with 3:10 to go, but Montana executed a 92 yard drive that ended with a 10 yard touchdown pass to John Taylor with 34 seconds left, launching the 49ers to a 20-16 win and leaving the Bengals disappointed yet again.
Esiason would play 4 more seasons with the Bengals following his Super Bowl appearance, but never experienced the same success he had in 1988. He was named to a third Pro Bowl in 1989 after posting stats similar to his MVP season, but the Bengals only finished 8-8. Esiason helped them reach the playoffs one final time in 1990 after a season where he threw for 3000 yards and 24 touchdowns, but also led the league in interceptions with 22. This would be the Bengalsβ last playoff appearance until 2005, and to date is still their final playoff win. Esiasonβs play fell off in the following two seasons. In 1991, he failed to pass for 3000 yards and threw more

Thanks for looking! Have a nice day and happy new year! :)
It recently occurred to me just how many notable football coaches are of Italian descent. Pretty neat to see all this success in the game.
Vince Lombardi is probably the most famous name in NFL coaching history, and is the namesake of the Super Bowl trophy.
John Gagliardi and Joe Paterno are the two most winning coaches in NCAA history. Frank Girardi, Al Bagnoli, Rick Giancola, Fred Martinello, and Peter Mazzaferro are all in the Top 75 in wins as well.
Other college greats include Carmen Cozza (10 Ivy League Championships with Yale), Buff Donelli (lead Columbia to its only Ivy championship), and the recently retired Mark Dantonio.
Some guys currently in the college ranks include the likes of Jim Harbaugh and Doug Marrone (both of whom were also NFL HC's). Along with Marrone (OL), Sal Sunseri is also on Nick Saban's staff as a OLB coach. Pat Narduzzi's Pitt team is 17th in the nation. Bo Pelini, Bobby Petrino, and Greg Schiano are all really good coaches that would probably be leading major programs if they could avoid controversy.
Before our current coach, the last two coaches of the team I pull for (BC) were Frank Spaziani and Steve Addazio. Spaz is currently a DC for New Mexico and Daz is HC of Colorado State.
There is a handful of guys with prominent positions in the NFL
There's also a number of Italian American owners (Biscotti owns the Ravens, DeBartolo family owns the 49ers) as well as a number of front office types and players.
My Patriots also have Matt Patricia on the staff for his second tint with the team after being fired as the Lions HC, Carmen Bricillo who replaced the legendary OL coach Dante Scarnecchia (also Italian), and Vinnie Sunseri is being groomed to replace the great Ivan Fears at RB coach when he retires. Another disciple of Scar's is Dave DeGuglielmo who has been a longtime OL coach around the league, winning Super Bowls with the Pats and Giants, he's currently in the college ranks. The Patriots Bill Belichick himself coached under Italian American Bill Parcells.
Other current and former NFL coaches that have been HCs or Coordinators include: Dave Campo, Eric Mangin

Surely the team wouldnβt go into the season with a Trevon Diggs-Brown-Lewis starting defensive backfield, right?
As it turns out, Brown and Lewis have played an integral part of the Cowboysβ turnaround on defense.
In fact, those three barely leave the field. Their snap counts include:
As for the two rookies? Itβs been hard for them to get on the field:
Those numbers should drastically change today for at least one of those players.
Lewis is expected to miss todayβs game after testing positive for COVID. The only other option at the slot corner position is Maurice Canady, who just came off the injury report (along with safety Donovan Wilson Jr.).
Therefore, thereβs a good chance either Joseph or Wright will start against Washington, or, at the very least, both will receive extensive playing time.
Which one? The smart money is on Joseph, as he was the higher draft pick. If Wright starts, then that could mean one of two things: Either the team is high on Wright, or the team isnβt impressed with Joseph.
A former LSU CB, Joseph was one of the last corners this past draft who was thought good enough to start right away. Five CBs went in the first round: Jaycee Horn (8 to Carolina), Patrick Surtain II (9-Denver), Caleb Farley (22-Tennessee), Greg Newsome (26-Cleveland) and Eric Stokes (29-Green Bay).
Then Stokesβ Georgia teammate was the next corner to go, with Jacksonville taking Tyson Campbell early in the second round at pick No. 33. Eleven picks later, Joseph went to Dallas at pick No. 44. One other CB was taken in the second round, the Los Angeles Chargersβ Asante Samuel Jr., who was the No. 47 overall pick.
There was a sizeable gap between the next wave of corners, with Aaron Robinson the next CB to be drafted at pick No. 71 overall to the New York Giants.
You see this sort of thing happen all the time β a run on a position, causing some players to be

The main parts of the offseason and player acquisition are now over and itβs time to look at who was able to upgrade their roster β on paper at least. In this write-up, we will analyze which teams managed to address a certain position group and really improve it compared to a year ago, through free agency, trades and the draft.
For the purpose of this exercise, we only look at who these squads actually had for the season, but at the same time they donβt get points for getting a player back, that already was on the roster and missed the majority of the year with injuries. So the Giants running backs arenβt going to make the list, just because Saquon Barkley is coming back, for example.
Letβs dive into it:

So I was thinking about some of these high-end singular replacements like Matt Stafford over Jared Goff or Ryan Fitzpatrick over the mess in Washington, but if weβre looking at a full room, I think the Bears have gotten the best balance of capable quarterback play right now and potential upside. It didnβt look at all like Bears fans would be excited about the guys they will have under center in 2021, when the Russell Wilson noise died down and they decided to opt for old sturdy Andy Dalton instead, but in reality, getting a reliable lower-tier signal-caller like him over the ups and downs they had with Nick Foles and Mitch Trubisky already could be big for a team whose defense over the first half of the season was good enough to overcome the least exciting offense in football. And then they make a splash in the draft, that could change the fortunes of their franchise and their current regime, when they took advantage of the talented Ohio State QB Justin Fields slipping, by trading up nine spots in exchange for next yearβs first-round pick basically and getting their guy. There are some issues with mechanics and eye discipline that he still needs to clean up β and those could take some time to fully overcome β but I believe his play-making and off-script qualities will allow them to work through those, will giving the team somebody that can actually win games by taking over. Trubisky started getting into a bit of a groove down the ro
