PG Wodehouse style book about aristocrats at an English country estate , main character is a clever chap with a military title (a Major or Colonel?). I think the audiobook was read by Martin Jarvis

I had an audiobook when I was a kid of a book whose style I now associate with PG Wodehouse, in the sense that its a bit cheeky satire of aristocrats and social norms in early 20th century England. The book centers on a cast of characters stuck at a country estate for a few days. The main character is a clever man who defies social norms a bit (who I think had a military title like Colonel or Major). I also remember a shrewish woman with an aristocratic title (Duchess? Countess?) who ran the estate, and was constantly referencing events in nearby Shrewsbury. The audiobook was read by Martin Jarvis...

Can anyone identify this? Thanks!

[Request] Just William 6, read by Martin Jarvis [BBC Audio] [CD1, CD3]

Greetings, Music Hoarders. I was wondering if someone could help me find a copy of CD1 and CD3 from Just William 6 from BBC Audio, read by Martin Jarvis, written by Richmal Crompton, abridged by Peter Atkin.

My brother/we owned the whole album as kids, but CD1 and CD3 have disappeared before I was able to rip them to MP3. I currently have the tracks from CD2 in 320kbps rips from WMP, each track split into 5 parts (as it was on the CD).

Tracks I already have:

  • William and St. Valentine

  • April Fools' Day

  • Not Much

  • The Cure

What small role actors stole the scene or entire movie?

So, every now and then, not the main actors, but an actor in a relatively smaller role is so good they steal either a scene, or a sequence, or even an entire movie.

In your opinions, what are good examples of these.

A couple of the top of my head:

The character Kid Blue in Looper. Although he seems to be considered stupid in the film by most of the other characters, he really seems to keep getting ahead and outsmarting others (although he always ends up screwing it up again).

Bill Murray in a very small role in Little Shops of Horrors. Steve Martin is the lunatic dentist who likes to scare and cause pain in his patients, but then out of nowhere, Bill Murray comes in and totally flips things on their head. He enjoys pain and wants the dentist to do his worst.

I know I have a lot more examples, I just can't think of them at the moment. If I do, I'll keep adding them to the list, but I would like to hear about your own.

EDIT:

Some good answers, but some people clearly don't even understand the question.

EDIT:

How in the hell did this post blow up so much?

EDIT:

I just remembered a good one. The character of Ellis in the first Die Hard movie.

Viggo Mortensen in Daylight

Benedict Cumberbatch is a rare example of an amazing actor from the UK that can't quite nail an American accent from any region

Top 3 Offenders

Dr Strange: Sounds like he's over emphasizes certain inflections on softer A sounds on words can't handle what

Power of the Dog: I'm not sure if he was going for a modern regional Montana accent or trying to go more southern cowboy. Either way complete miss

Black Mass: I suppose Boston has a notoriously difficult accent to nail but it was a bad enough attempt that they should've just hired another actor. He didn't have a lot of dialogue but what lines he did have he kinda mumbled through them

Nepotism in young Hollywood: Which currently popular actor/actress is NOT a product of being well-connected and/or rich?

Honestly, off the top of my head, I can only think of Zendaya. Her parents were high school teachers.

Then, on the other side of the pond, where classicism is supposedly even more pervasive in acting circles to the point where even Dame Judi Dench has famously spoken out about it, I can only think of James McAvoy and Olivia Cooke as actors that come from a working-class background.
