A list of puns related to "Mannering"
After a rewatch of the series with my wife, and her being heartbroken seeing Lorne shoot Lindsey, I realized something.
The whole Black Thorn plot reminded me of John Doe's plan in Se7en (killings to display the hypocrisy of individuals who moralize while acting immoral), and what Angel said in Power Play, "I needed them to believe someone as good and as pure as Drogyn believed I was evil"
What about corrupting someone as good and as pure and as pacifistic as Lorne to assasinate a human? After breaking free of the "new" W&H, ordering a follower/employee to do something Wolfram and Hart of old specialized in?
Lindsey was always part of the problem, but wasn't actively endangering anyone.
It was cold blooded, similar to how Lindsey and Lilah tried to use Faith on Angel when the roles were swapped in S01 and Angel lost them their court case.
He represented most of humanity, which looks out for itself, as even Angel admits.
And we know Lorne was an agent of the Powers in some capacity, although less directly related to Angel than Doyle or Cordelia.
Most of the time, the PTB and SP are talked about as playing interdimensional chess.
The Senior Partners, being evil, hold nobody on this dimension sacred or above being sacrificed, and if Angel was able to order such a thing after "leaving" W&H, and managed to corrupt someone as pure as Lorne into cold blooded murder, then his presence at Wolfram and Hart had fulfilled their purposes.
When he left Holland and the rest to die at Darla and Drusilla's hands, he still had a way to go towards evil. He was simply apathetic, and didn't care enough. His team called him out on it then, and he fired them. This time, it was seen by his team as needed. By the least violence prone individual and one who still mistrusted Angel after Power Play. I would say Season 5 ended with Angel doing evil things believing he's a hero, sending a human to die in cold blood after casually conversing that day. He corrupted a servant of the PTB. And he did all this for the "right reasons". This fits the definition of evil much more than apathy. Seduction. Corruption. Lindsey never changed as a person, and Angel almost always refused to kill any human being up to that point.
The Partners offering up a chance to play the hero while simultaneously taking Angel out of play for most of the season, slowly corrupting him until they serve up the Circle, knowing he'll lose himself in the process .
I haven't read the comics, so I'm no
... keep reading on reddit β‘When a carefully selected panel of cultural anthropologists, philosophers, scientists and historians gather to discuss the TWATs of 2019 in the not-so-distant-future, they will spend a disproportionate amount of time pouring over Gameweek 12βs intriguing case.
On the surface, everything looks above board. Was this team in the top 10k prior to Gameweek 12? Yes. Is the team managed by a hapless Englishman? Absolutely. And is his team name an over-used, ill-mannered pun that weβve all seen plenty of times before? Of course.
If thereβs one thing we can be certain of, itβs that 2 Girls One Schlupp plays by the rules. At least the superficial ones.
But this is the TWAT. We donβt just settle for the superficial rules. Instead, we don our head torches, peel back the flaps of duplicity and have a little rummage. In this instance, our rummaging yields some curious surprises.
Scoring 26 points, 2 Girls One Schlupp is Gameweek 12βs International Break TWAT. Letβs take a look at his team.
To understand why this TWAT is so damn fascinating, we have to start with hisΒ transfer history.
Gameweek 1: 0 transfers.
Gameweek 2: 0 transfers. Triple Captain played.
Gameweek 3: 0 transfers.
Gameweek 4: 0 transfers. Bench Boost played.
2 Girls One Schlupp was an active manager. This was a man who was monitoring his team, thinking about his options, deploying his chips. But was he active in the transfer market? Absolutely not.
By Gameweek 4, he was one of only 7,344 teams called 2 Girls One Schlupp to find themselves in the top 10k.
By Gameweek 9, he was ranked 423rd in the world. Despite all of this: he still hadn't made a transfer.
The fate of this manager began to unravel in Gameweek 10: the moment he decided toΒ intervene. For me it is this fact, above anything else, that so perfectly encapsulates FPL.
Wan Bissaka and Ashley Barnes depart for Nathan Ake and Wesley. 2 Girls One Schlupp drops from 423rd to 903rd. He then drops to 8,276th after a torrid Gameweek 11. Then, looking to make up ground, he makes another transfer ahead of Gameweek 12: introducing John Lundstram at Ben Meeβs expense.
The result is a rank dropΒ from 8,276th to a gut-wrenching 102,466th. Four figures to six figures faster than a corrupt banker.
His team is unconventional in places, with Firmino, King and double Aston Villa attack looking more like a Gameweek 1 squad than a Gameweek 12 squad.

Title says it all. I hope this kind of anti competive carebear attitude doesn't infect the games culture.
