A list of puns related to "Machine check exception"
As the title says I tried to overclock my CPU, and upon exiting the BIOS, I was met with the Machine Check Exception BSoD. Unfortunately, I don't have any spare parts to swap everything out one by one to determine what piece of hardware is giving me the issue. I have tried removing the cmos battery and swapping ram/only using one stick. Most of the time I can't even make it to the bios but one time I did and made sure everything was back to stock setting, nothing was overclocked. I have tried everything else I can think of and would appreciate it if anyone has any recommendations.
I have been considering upgrading my CPU and mobo anyway, so if I can't fix it would that solve my issue?
My cpu is I5 6600K
motherboard is MSI Z170A Gaming M3
MSI GTX 1070,
G-Skill 2x8 2400 mhz,
Corsair 650 Watt PSU
Thank you!
Hello all, been trying to search around for similar issues with the just shipped/delivered R12s with the 11th gen intel CPUs. I've been getting a few errors under various levels of load, one time the MCE error, but a few of the Watchdog ones.
I've noticed another user recently with this same shipment having the same issue. Wondering if anyone else has seen this and can raise some visibility into some info I am maybe missing. I have updated BIOS, I ran the Alienware hardware checks to their fullest, everything shows as OK. I am good with PCs and what not, so I've done a bunch of other things... mem test, etc. So far I have not really found the main culprit unless its a driver or a faulty update. Temps are OK too. DDU/GPU driver fresh install, done.
May come down to it being a crap CPU if this stuff continues... ugh.
Every few weeks, I get a BSOD that says machine check exception. Most of the time it happens while I'm playing games like bloons td6, idle monster td, and low-power indie games. It never happens when playing league of legends and overwatch though. My parts aren't overclocked and they are fairly new. I have checked the health of my parts and they seem fine. What could be the issue?
Can somebody please help i tried restarting and it just keeps freezing
Hi, ive got a very new install of Centos 8.
Out of the box, im receiving this error, after some research it looks though it caused by having AMD CPU. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue or know whether i can safely disable this service without any impact.

Hi, Team! Finally corebooted my t440p with Tianocore payload and stripped ME.
Debian works like a charm, but unable to boot into Windows even via usb installation media - getting BSOD with Stop Code: MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION.
When switching to original bios (only bios, ime stays stripped) - windows can boot.
TPM owned via linux before corebooting.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
upd: cpu i7-4800MQ, no dGPU on board

... keep reading on reddit β‘I switched my GPU from a GTX 1060 6GB to an RTX 2060 Super this summer, since then I have started to experience complete computer crashes every ~2 weeks or so. It happens at any random moment, while watching Youtube vids, gaming or other tasks. My monitors completely freeze and a blue screen appears with the error code: MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION. It doesn't even restart itself, I have to manually shut down my PC and boot it back up. Every time after booting up after a computer crash, in my device manager, a yellow hazard error appears next to HID compliant headset. When clicking proprieties in the HID compliant headset it says: This device cannot start. (Code 10). I am clueless about the reason why this would be occurring and any help is greatly appreciated. Here is the HID compliant headset error: https://imgur.com/a/vpokHiP
Here are the solutions I tried and didn't work:-Reinstalling my GPU driver-Changing headsets-Updating BIOS-Resetting BIOS settings
My computer specs:
Motherboard: TUF Z390-PLUS GAMING(WI-FI)
GPU: MSI Geforce RTX 2060 Super Ventus
CPU: Intel i5-9600k
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 2x8GB 3000mhz
SSD: Samsung 970 EVO 250GB
HDD: WD Black Hard Drive 1TB
PSU: Corsair RM750X
So, when I first built my computer, when I installed Windows, after the first restart, it would load for about 5 minutes, freeze, and then I would get a BSOD with the error "MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION". To get Windows installed, I have to install Windows 7, then do the 10 upgrade. The board was sitting in storage for about 6 years, and it had a CPU installed (but I changed the CPU because it wasn't compatible with my RAM). Could it be board damage? I want to know this because I'm installing an SSD soon, I have also tried reseatting and changing around the slots the RAM is in. If needed, here are the system specs:
MSI P55A-G55 (Legacy boot, board doesn't support UEFI)
Intel Core i5-750 (originally i3-530, but changed due to incompatible RAM)
8GB DDR3 G.Skill RAM
AMD Radeon HD 7870 (powercolor PCS+ edition)
2TB 7200RPM Seagate HDD (main drive)
500GB 7200RPM Seagate HDD (second drive
My laptop runs Windows 10 Home edition and it has been displaying Machine Check Exception on a loop with Blue screen of death, it's not even allowing me to enter into the system on safe mode, disk checks are failing, system restore is not accessible, system repair fails too, basically all possible fixes seem to be redundant atm. I wanted to know if it would make any difference if I reset Windows via a USB installation or if this is purely a hardware matter now.
Am I the only one that gets blue screens every hour or so in this game? I know that my system is completely stable, I have no overclocks, I can run more intensive games and itβs not a hardware issue like it seems to think. I used to get a different error when it blue screened but now this is the only one I get. Itβs just really frustrating. I submitted a bug report but I know you guys are pretty knowledgeable and it wouldnβt hurt to ask.
Just built a new machine last night and installed windows on it this morning. I had it connected online downloading updates and was putting in my activation key (I had already downloaded a few drivers like my display and networking drivers). EDIT FOR CLARITY: windows had fully installed and was running (end edit) . Right after I submitted it, the machine crashed with a BSOD. I don't remember what the error was specifically and didn't get a picture fast enough.
After rebooting, I kept seeing the same issue. Sometimes I get a BSOD, other times I wouldn't. Windows would try to boot into its recovery mode every other boot. I could navigate the bios just fine.
So I tried to reinstall windows from a USB, but before I could even get to anything for reinstalling, I hit the same crashes.
I tried unplugging the m.2 drive that windows was installed on to boot from usb. No change.
Updated the bios. No change
Changed where the installation USB was plugged in. No change.
I tried swapping out graphics cards. No change
I pulled and swapped around my RAM sticks (tried each individually in the other's slot). No change.
The only things I could still rule out by more testing is unplugging a known working hard drive and an unformatted data SSD. I'll be trying those soon.
Any other ideas on what to test? Any good Linux distros I could try booting to on USB that might have useful troubleshooting tools? I am pretty sure something is broken, I just need to find out what it is so I can get a replacement.

Hey! So I was trying to overclock my i7 -9700k on a z390 Aorus Pro WiFi motherboard. Had many issues with it and couldn't find a stable setting so i decided to run it stock for now. I changed the bios settings to optimized default and set custom voltage at 1.18 with turbo LLC. Ran prime95 for some minutes and didn't get any crashes. I left my PC on and went afk for an hour or two. It was at windows lock screen. This time i left my pc on to see what happened and i got a BSoD (Machine_Check_Exception) while doing absolutely nothing. No BSoDs on optimized default settings. Can someone help?
It crashes even if i watch yt videos and there shouldnt be hardware issues even tho the error is caused by overstressing or hardware failure. I cant update my windows to 1909 which is the newest windows rn. I cant update windows cuz i GET BSOD everytime when i try to download windows and its the samed bsos machine exception. Last time i was able to update windows was a YEAR AGO. SO is my computer broken or what should i do?
Hey everybody, I'm working for a company, and I'm a system admin junior, my server from HPE, DL360P gen10 had a crash last night at around 11:00 PM with the integrated management log. My tutor told me to understand what the problem is. I know the only solutions possible are to upgrade firmware (which I tried, and it didn't work) or to update the processor.
My question is: what is the actual problem with the CPU?!
Hereβs my story. I've put together a custom build, my first one. I had some trouble getting Windows 10 to install, it would just keep freezing, but I eventually got around that. Since day one, (running Windows 10 Enterprise) the computer will either freeze or give me the BSOD. When it does give me the BSOD, the only useful information it gives me is MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION. This happens at random times. It can happen an hour after startup, or it could happen 5 minutes later. I havenβt been able to notice any rhyme or reason to the crash. Iβm doing word processing, internet browsing, email basic stuff so far (I havenβt trusted it to work on anything serious yet).
Hereβs what Iβve tried/done:
Took all but one stick of RAM out, same result for all four sticks.
Swapped Video Cards (had an EVGA 770GTX, now using Quadro K2200) same results.
Swapped power supply with a spare. Same results.
Unplugged all peripheral USB ports on case/audio ports, so that only Monitors, Keyboard and Mouse are connected to the MB (and the hard disk). No change.
I spun up the same version of the operating system to a PNY SATA SSD and took out the Samsung m.2 SSD. Same results.
Iβve got the bios updated to the current version, Iβve install chipset drivers and any other drivers I could find for anything that is on the computer.
Any ideas of what I could try next?

Also, should add this, I have tested the HDD and RAM, they are both fine.
