Liver function tests

Last year I checked myself into medical detox. My liver enzymes, AST // ALT, were very high. I was told that I had a fatty liver. This morning I had a three month follow-up that included more lab work. The results are in; liver function has returned to normal (AST 28 // ALT 44). Woohoo! Thank you SD community!

Liver/kidney/pancreas function tests

Hi,

After ongoing symptoms after whatever I eat and having had all the main GI tests, I am thinking about looking into other tests. From reading, there's a number of digestive issues that can be caused by issues with your liver/kidneys or pancreas. From the tests I've undergone from my GI I assume these are unexplored avenues.

I'm getting towards my mid 30s, so am thinking these are likely good health screening tests to be undertaking anyway.

Has anyone investigated these types of tests and did anyone find it to be the cause of their digestive issues?

Liver function test for Nal

Hi guys!

Tomorrow, I am going to have my liver function test done, in order to hopefully get a prescription for Naltrexone and start TSM.

Will it make any difference on the test if I drink tonight? I desperately want a drink, and I also have a huge news to celebrate which makes it even harder to say no to alcohol today. But at the same time, I don’t want to risk having bad results at my liver function test that would stop me from getting naltrexone.

So, would having a couple of drink tonight damage my test results tomorrow?

How do I keep from going insane from constantly thinking about this. I have severe fatigue so naturally I’ve been trying to find the cause for several years. I had blood tests to determine liver function but haven’t had a liver ultrasound. How do I stop thinking about it so much?

All of the tests I’ve done cost money and I had surgery on my chest for pectus excavatum (which turns out I actually needed) and surgery for testicular cancer (which I obviously needed). How do I stop being a hypochondriac and spend a reasonable amount of time trying to figure out why I’m so tired?

Second Liver Function Test, Not as good as the first, but pretty sure I know why.

Not asking for advice, just an update. The results came in for my second LFT. First test was 1 1/2 months ago, a lot of the numbers have since changed. I was not on any medication (diuretics) for the first one, and I also had to fast for the first one as there was a lipid test involved too.

Since taking the second test I've often been feeling dehydrated due to the meds, and I've significantly upped my protein intake to prevent the muscle wasting that I've been having by adding 2 whey protein shakes to my diet (in fact I had one for breakfast, and the second one about an hour before the test).

The good news is my Bilirubin has dropped quite a bit, I would think that means my liver is healing.

First Test - Second Test

SODIUM - 136 NORMAL- > 133 (LOW)
CHLORIDE - 101 NORMAL -> 98 (LOW)
BUN - 6.9 (LOW) -> 23.7 (HIGH)
CREATININE - 0.86 (NORMAL) -> 1.17 (NORMAL)
GFR - ">90" (NORMAL) -> 70 (NORMAL)
PROTEIN - 7.8 (NORMAL) -> 8.4 (HIGH by 0.1)
BILIRUBIN - 3.25 (HIGH) - > 2.41 (HIGH)

I'm happy the Bilirubin has come down so much, I've noticed my urine is not as dark anymore!

ALT - 26 (NORMAL) -> 39 (NORMAL)
AST - 50 (HIGH) -> 61 (HIGH)
ALP - 61 (NORMAL) -> 73 (NORMAL)

I'm thinking the very high protein diet and dehydration and diuretics might be why these are skewed too. I may never know, no GI/Hep has accepted me yet and my Drs office keeps sending out referrals. At least I get another Paracentesis on Thursday and will finally have some relief for a month or so. This swelling is killing me.

40M - Elevated Liver Function Test results - Doctors puzzled

Hi Guys,
For various reasons I have a bunch of different doctors treating me at the moment, and a number of them have expressed concerns about elevated liver function test results showing up in my blood screens. They don't seem to have any ideas about the cause of them, and this has gone on for about 4 months.

I am 40, Male, 6'2" weigh 380pds. Non-smoker, very light drinker (1 drink a month if that). Don't do any recreational drugs.

I am on a smorgasbord of medication: Mirikizumab (for psoriasis); Cefalexin (for an ongoing osteomyelitis); Perindopril/Amlodopine, hydralazine hydrochloride, and indapamide hemihydrate for high blood pressure.

The doctors have advised me that the levels aren't in a dangerous level, and have been pretty stable across the period. They initially thought it may have been the antibiotics I've been on (which was dicloxacillin) and changed the drug about 4 weeks ago. Have been on those antibiotics for about 18 months in total.

I've now been sent for a liver ultrasound. I just feel like I've been poked and prodded by a lot of different doctors none of whom seem overly concerned, but all like to have their pound of flesh. Was wondering if any one here had any ideas what the cause might be.

Thanks
