Using JBR as a litmus test for which podcast/youtubers are trustworthy

I'm new to true crime and would like to learn more about famous/mysterious cases. The JBR mystery was my first one and I have to say, my favorite podcast series is Listen Carefully!! (https://podcasts.apple.com/dk/podcast/listen-carefully-in-depth-analysis-on-murder-jon-benet/id1549692094). I've seen them mentioned here and there and would happily like to plug them here.

I would say this podcast reflects the consensus and expertise of this subreddit well. Additionally, I get really offended/sensitive about Santa Bill accusations. This podcast hosted his daughter to come talk on the podcast about him and they spent the time honoring his memory and recognizing the pain those accusations caused him in his old age. Santa Bill and his wife were academics who seemed like lovely people. Bill in his old age and sickness derived a lot of comfort and purpose playing Santa.

Unfortunately the hosts disbanded after the series ended and moved on to different projects, so I've been on the hunt for a good, generalized true crime podcast to move my way through so I can find out about cases and then invest research in them as they interest me.

I thought I found it in True Crime Garage but I was extremely bothered by this practically morbid assertion that JBR was sadomasochistically choked to death by a masturbating intruder and that she clawed her own neck trying to free herself. Ruined my ability to trust the rest of their content.

I found the JBR episodes of My Favorite Murder and Necronomipod to be okay. MFM's episode library intimidates me and I find the long amount of banter really unpleasant but they had the most factual handle on it. Unfortunately, I found that episode to be structured as if you already knew the entire storyline which makes me feel like I will be lost a lot with other episodes.

Necronomipod is probably the only one I've found that seems to fit what I am looking for, but I'm only halfway through the episodes right now and I'm just waiting to not be suddenly hit over the head with actually the evil Santa pedophile did it or something.

Any recommendations would be really appreciated!

Litmus test to tell if it’s a shitcoin.

Downvote me all to hell but here’s how you tell if that coin you’re interested in is trash:

Go to its sub and ask really pointed questions about some of the complaints/difficulties you or others see about the coin.

Look at the responses. Are they all attacking you? Broken 3rd grade English claiming FUD but avoiding the question? Nothing but gaslighting without substance? Crickets from the Devs but all the holders tell you to check the β€œTelegram”.

Need I go on? If they can’t answer simple questions without attacking the messenger... it’s probably shit.

What’s A litmus Test to determine if An engineer is Actually experienced and Has taken the time to learn to be effective or not?

Hi Engineers,

Mods, if this post doesn’t belong here, I apologise, and will take it down. Please do let me know if you can where I can post this.

I’m a new founder who needs to hire engineers to join my team to build the future of our domain. I have engineer friends I’m working with, but now I need to hire a team of engineers, predominantly website and app, but also hardware down the line.

Before I became a founder, I was a sales person, with some marketing responsibilities. I know how to build and hire and run a sales and marketing operation. A great litmus test, regardless of domain, country or experience, to tell if a sales person has β€œgot the goods” so to speak, that they’re capable, smart, experienced, invested in learning their domain, and have got the scars to prove it, grease on their hands from actually doing the work, is their answer to the question: A prospect says you’re a great sales person. Is this a good or bad thing? The rookie sales person jumps up in delight. He’s going to win this deal! The experienced sales person tries not to show it, but his mind is on fire. He’s cursing. He knows he’s done for, and if he doesn’t course correct quickly, this deal is a goner.

What’s a similar litmus test I can use to quickly and effectively judge whether an engineer is the real deal and I should hire him or isn’t, and maybe we won’t be a good fit together?

YAFJP?: I want to litmus test my corpus to see if I am on the right path.

I'm 27M/unmarried/dependent parents. I have been working as a Software engineer for 6 years now and have been saving-up/investing only for four years. My salary growth has been at least 15% Y-o-Y courtesy of multiple job switches.

I save roughly 50% of my take home and any bonus/gifts I receive are usually earmarked for big ticket purchases. Average monthly expenses have been 80k p/m for the last 12 months.

Year Amount saved/Invested (cumulative) NW (excluding PF) + gains
2015 - -2,56,000 (Edu. Loan)
2016 - -1,11,000
2017 - 0
2018 45000 47,294
2019 1,45,500 (190500) 2,08,240
2020 3,75,505 (521005) 6,15,498
2021(mid-year) 9,66,812 (14,87,817) 17,99,158

Year-wise breakup of investments:

2015 - Fresh out of college I had saved 5k per month in FDs and anything else I could save for the month went into paying my education loans. This included bonus payouts or any other unexpected extra cash in hand. But it was mostly spend first save later.

2016 - I saw my education loan balance growing constantly despite me making payments (small amounts) every month. I did not want to be caught up with a huge debt and hence decided to pay it back ASAP. Paid off a considerable chunk of the loan in 2016.

2017 - I had wrapped up my loan by now and also had 2x growth in salary which meant I could venture out of FDs/Rds and try out my hand in other instruments. I got attracted by looking at the returns some youtubers boasted and got into stock trading. Spent time buying/selling stocks based on advice from whatsapp groups and some channels. I had to exit finally at 65k loss since I did not see it as a viable option to grow my money and it was definitely not worth the mental stress while holding a full time job.

2018 - A job switch had now forced me into investing for tax saving purposes and I ended up maxing out the 80C with MF/LIC/PF etc. Was not aware of NPS or other instruments at this point in time.

2019 - I learnt about retirement savings and realized my career will not extend forever and I need to fund my twilight years. Hence started with Mutual Funds outside the ELSS bucket and went with funds advised by Cleartax and a few other apps.

2020 - Was very happy to see an overall growth of roughly 18% (without understanding what CAGR meant). Midway through I saw the commission costs and switched to direct funds. I also started investing in Stocks again but now for the long haul. I also started looking be

What litmus test would you use to decipher whether someone will enjoy Ru Paul’s Drag Race?

My friend asked me for show recommendations to stream since she and her husband have binged just about everything during the pandemic. I obvi recommended Drag Race and described it to her as β€œSurvivor, but for people that have never thought about calling the police when they see black people doing perfectly normal and legal things in public.”

It got me thinking, what litmus test would you apply to judge someone’s propensity to enjoy the show?

Aside: I think it is a moral failing of our society that some people (homophobes) blindly reject the notion that they could find any enjoyment out of watching β€œdudes in dresses” but so long as they exist I think we should explore ways to easily weed them out.

I'm so tired of being subjected to the good jew/ bad jew litmus test every time IP is a bigger news story.

I'm very angry with and critical of the Israeli government but I personally never share this because it opens the floor to people coming to me every time the conflict is relative in the news cycle.

I'm so so so tired of friends purposely bringing up IP around me and then waiting for me to condemn or defend something. It's really hurtful to know people who supposedly care about me harbor a resentment for a conflict I have literally nothing to do with. This week has been incredibly exhausting and I've uninstalled twitter, facebook and instagram, but still being exposed to antisemitism in the form of complete misinformation about the conflict or complete generalization about our community.

I'm so tired. I'm so so so tired of having support from friends until things get "tricky" in the middle east and I'm suddenly expected to be the leading expert on the conflict but also only give answers that they agree with. The fact that people cannot see this behavior as problematic or antisemitic, or even recognize it as unhealthy is really hurtful. I'm your friend unconditionally until my being Jewish "goes against your values", right? I'm sad.

Safemoon the real litmus test of the BSC coins and possibly all alt's.

Hey All,

I know this may be a controversial topic to bring up but I need to be completely honest.

I was a previous heavy investor in Safemoon and made my fortune around the ATH in April(I cashed out 3 days short of the ATH)

I must say this, the token itself is the biggest litmus test of all s***coins(with all due respect) on the BSC and possibly even extending itself across the erc-20 platforms.

Not a current holder myself, I would often come across to read Daddy's whale watcher thread as it was an accurate picture of what was happening not only in safemoon but across the rest of the bsc coin's and how the market is feeling.

When Safemoon had some great AMA news or developments the effects drove other BSC coins to drive upwards but at the same time any selloffs from Safemoon would impact the rest just as equally. It's almost like it is the bitcoin of super alts(not counting bnb, eth etc).

To finish, not only for Safemooners(which i think will still go far and I'm kicking myself for selling off) but for all bsc tokens it is imperative Safemoon pushes the boundaries and keeps going as it drives so much consumer confidence and gives hope to all the other alts (Safemoon forks or not).

That may seem greedy but I think it also should be a massive pat on the back how good the dev's and community are for crypto in general.

Thankyou!

Mozilla should stop doing redesigns and focus on performance

Look, to be blunt, nobody asked for this redesign. Other browsers go for years without redesigns, look at Chrome which stayed the same for years until a redesign in 2018 with rounded tabs or Safari which basically has the same look as 10 years ago. Yet Firefox keeps being redesigned for no good reason, based on inaccurate telemetry data that power users have disabled anyway.

All the while the share of users on Firefox is dropping: it is currently at 3.4% of the worldwide market share. Its performance is lagging behind its competitors. Extensions are still broken after the switch over to web extensions. Mozilla should redirect resources from the UI/UX work to the backend development to improve performance and help Firefox to stay the browser that we love and differentiate itself in the browser market by being its own thing, not a clone of Chrome.

Whats your litmus of belief for when someone tells you something is "right vs wrong"?

So I've been discovering this emerging problem in my shooting and how my gear is setup for shooting.

People post content, I watch it, then try what was posted. Obviously the person posting the content feels like that's "the right way" based on xyz qualifications... but is it? Like who decides? I would imagine that "operators in the field" decide what's the best way to do xyz but does that apply equally for paper targets under time?

I find myself shooting alot of ammunition through the course of moving around gear and trying this and that under xyz conditions to see what's "best" and everyone says their way is "best". Is this all just conjecture? "It worked best for me so its best". I imagine based on experience and training ive had that what operators do is the best compromise of acquiring and hitting your target whilst minimizing your chances of being shot. So thats a compromise right? So if you take the chance of being shot out of the equation is there a better way to acquire and hit the target quickly?

Then the next part is how do you write the disconnect in your brain between the two. I have this issue with shooting at fast close targets but then having a stage that requires me to check in at a longer range. I struggle with switching gears quickly between 2 different shooting disciplines.

I'm asking the questions because I'm spending alot of time and ammunition looking for the answer and im not finding it either reading or through training.

I'd love to hear people's thoughts on this.

Edit: I realize that this is more of a philosophy question than an actual test question. Looking for people's thoughts and advice.

"Should my 5E group migrate to Pathfinder 2E?" - Litmus Test

This is probably one of the most asked questions on this subreddit, and the answer is of course very simple: You should use the system that is the most fun for you and your group.

But that isn't really the most helpful answer, since what is most likely the actual question being asked is, "Will my group enjoy 5E or 2E more?"

I have played a fair amount of both systems and after mulling this over for a while I think I have developed a Test to indicate which players will prefer each system. I will explain the test first, then go over my reasoning.

The Test: Invite all your players to a board game night for a heavier board game. (I would suggest something like Eclipse or Terraforming Mars, but any boardgame with a rules booklet rather than a rules sheet will work.) A few days ahead of the game day, ask everyone to Read the Rules of the game beforehand so that you can start playing immediately rather than having to start with a rules walkthrough. (Make sure to send a rules PDF so they can read the rules, but don't keep reminding them to read the rules.)

The players who show up having already read the rules will prefer Pathfinder 2E, while the players who you have to explain the rules to on game day will prefer D&D 5E.

Reasoning: I have run a lot of board game nights over the years, and I can assure you that the majority of players don't read the rules before showing up to the game. Most of those players are attending the game as a Social Event, with the game simply providing the structure for socializing. Players who show up having read the rules are excited and interested in attending a Game Event, with the social aspect being a fun bonus rather than the focus. (And of course, this is a rule of thumb and will have plenty of exceptions)

D&D 5E is intentionally loose and abstract with its rules, and is designed to get players playing without much fuss. "Look at your class, you get the stuff listed in the box for your level. Role the d20 and add it to the skill the GM asks for to do things. The GM will answer any other questions you have." It is a great system for people who want to socialize because players don't need to keep track of too many moving parts, so they can sit down and jump into the game without having to plan out characters too much or keep track of complex ability interactions. Just show up, sit down, pick a class, and start adventuring.

Pathfinder 2E on the other hand is much more of a Game Event. Rather than loose "
