The "Wulin (ζ¦ζž—)", or world of martial arts, is the stage for the entire genre of wuxia fiction and has captivated many. But what was the real wulin like?

How do martial artists in ancient China live and what do they do? Or are they just the mafias and cartels of ancient China? Do they have tournaments to determine who is the strongest fighter under the sky?

BBC only just behind Hamas in respected Jewish organisation the Wiesenthal Center's antisemitic 'list of shame'

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 61%. (I'm a bot)

> The BBC has been branded anti-semitic by one of the world's most respected Jewish organisations.

> The Simon Wiesenthal Center -named after the famed Nazi-hunter - has placed the BBC at No 3 on its annual 'Global Antisemitism Top Ten' list.

> Last night, Rabbi Marvin Hier, head of the centre, told The Mail On Sunday: 'People might be surprised to see the BBC on our list but the decision to place the BBC at No 3 came after months of intense debate and discussion.

> 'People might assume we would put neo-Nazi groups on our list but the BBC is there because when a globally recognised organisation allows antisemitism to creep into its reporting, it makes it all the more insidious and dangerous.

> The Wiesenthal Center report, which will be released on Tuesday, lists Iran - whose leaders deny the Holocaust and have pledged to 'annihilate Israel' - at No 1 on the list and the Palestinian terror group Hamas at No 2.The report condemned former BBC reporter Tala Halawa who posted a series of tweets including 'Hitler was right' and 'Zionists can't get enough of our blood' in 2014.

> The BBC strives to serve the Jewish community, and all communities across our country, fairly with accurate and impartial reporting.

[Request] Harry Potter fictions in an Eastern martial arts style (Wuxia/Xianxia)

Ok this may seem like a really weird request, but I was wondering if anyone knows of any fanfics with a Wuxia or Xianxia plot style base.

Like Hogwarts is a sect, and magic is cultivation based with Harry going on adventure outside of Hogwarts.

Been a big fan of Chinese fictions for a while, and I think it would be cool to read one within the HP world.

Doesn't have to be exactly like I listed above, could be that magic in the east is taught like that, and Harry visits. Or something. Just with that general idea.

Liu Cixin Fiction Organisation Names in Chinese

Hi all,

Wondering if any Chinese speaking fans of Liu Cixin could help please. In the project I'm working on that has a link to Mr Liu then we have some graphics of a futuristic cityscape / buildings and we'd like to put a couple of little 'Easter Eggs' in there in the form of company names/building names we could use from Liu Cixin's fiction. Ideally we're trying to avoid overt references in The Three Body Problem (such as ETO)... but ok to have some of them in the mix. For instance I was wondering if in his story on time migration there's a name of a company there at all etc? We're really looking for names with only 3-4 Chinese characters, in order for them to fit on the building.

Or of course if anyone who doesn't speak Chinese also has any ideas then that's great too as we can check translations with Chinese members on the team. Many thanks if you have any thoughts!

I've recently had the idea of writing a wuxia/xianxia novel floating around in my head, one specifically designed to subvert the most hated clichΓ©s of the genre and to rationalize common tropes where possible, all while staying true to its roots.

To that end I would like to make a list of said cliches (specially those you hate), editing the post so as to make as extensive a list as possible. I'll start off with some that I can say off the top of my head:

  • Every girl is an earth-shattering beauty, and if described as such it's basically guaranteed that they'll end up showing affection for the MC, most likely becoming a part of the harem.
    • And while extensively describing the beauty of all of them with phrases such as "silky black hair", " thin jade-like figure", "white unblemished skin", etc. her actual appearance is never properly explained, making it so that the looks of every beauty in the book are basically interchangeable, with no trace of individuality.
  • Beings that have lived for hundreds or thousands of years showing the intellect and/or maturity of a teenager.
  • Mandatory aphrodisiac-induced sex.
  • The godly timing of the MC that allows him to arrive at the last second of a fight to save the day, get somewhere precisely when a hidden realm opens, or a big auction is being held, or basically any and all important events that just so happen to fall into the MC's lap.
  • MC starting off as "trash" or crippled and suddenly becoming a heaven-defying genius.
  • Every character with the least bit of authority being arrogant as hell just to be shocked by the MC. You'd really think that in a world of "crouching tigers and hidden dragons", where age, appearance and even cultivation can be masked, treating everyone like ants without having prior knowledge of their background is asking for trouble.
  • Inconsistent personality/intellect. The MC is described as smart only to act as an idiot when the author needs him to to force plot through. Personality suffers the same illness, with one-dimensional supporting characters and supposedly badass MC's being wimps outside of battle scenes, for example.
  • Some stair like structure where it becomes difficult the higher you climb and MC for some reason cruises through it. (u/Os0r3)
  • People doubting the MCs power despite all evidence. The MC could defeat 50 people at once of the same cultivation on stage, then arrogant young master will jump up and challenge him, somehow thinking he's trash, when it's obvious th

I’m looking for the title of this book that I am pretty sure I read in fan fiction.net- where Harry, Ron, Hermione, Draco, Crabbe and Goyle form this shadow organisation (most likely) called the Custodians of the Light.

I also know that Draco’s parents were murdered within the first few chapters. They create like a sub-organisation whose many members include Dumbledore, Amelia Bones, Arthur Weasley, Severus Snape, etc; and I know that Hagrid is supposed to be the only proper adult who is a member of the Custodians of the Light.

If any of you know the book I’m thinking about, please tell me...

Thanks:)
