A list of puns related to "List of occultists"
We are using Automatic Bonus Progression, and I won't need the "big 5" so I expect to have a lot of extra gold laying around, what should I get as I level? It's an evil campaign by the way.
I started playing ED/Cont in Talisman, and promptly fell in love with it. Since then I have built more DoT oriented characters than I care to count, whether ED, CA, or even Blight. I lived through the consuming dark + decay dagger days, the +1 decay bow + soulstrike days (oh pre-nerf soulstrike, you were too fucking broken OP for this world), the decay dagger + shield + pathfinder poison days, etc, and outside of Delve and Betrayal where ED became CA due to the base damage changes (also CA doesn't care about profane bloom fucking over your contagion spread, but I digress), I have played at least one ED toon (mostly occultist, trickster is for suckers, Tarke, accept it) per league.
So here we go : HOW DOES CHAOS FEEL IN 3.6?
Short answer : THANK YOU GG OH THANK YOU IT FEELS AMAZING
Long answer :
AΒ°) Leveling
You can now level as chaos dot and not feel bad about it. Like, really, used to be you needed to stack CA, ED, Blight, your totems, spreading rots, vaal lightning trap, and still feel like you should have just leveled as arc traps anyway. Leveling this league was surprisingly quick. This, of course, stems from a couple various things :
BΒ°) Early Mapping
Early maps felt a bit off this league, possibly because dense fossils and shav's and stuff are like 10 times more expensive than what I'm used to. Sucks for one's build to be meta I guess, but it's not like there weren't workarounds. Flora's Gift & Porcupine make getting an early 5L easy enough, which was sufficient to comfortably go into T9 (Cells) and T10 (Scriptorium) where I started farming/buying The Offerin

Hello all. I'm currently planning a V5 chronicle and my players expressed interest in being exposed to real-world occultism (The Lesser Keys of Solomon for example) through our game. Has anyone tried using actual texts for gameplay, perhaps as part of a mystery or something they had to research? How did it go for your group? How were the texts utilized? Thanks in advanced.
Since my teenage witchy phase (which is still kind of ongoing), I have been collecting PDFs of books on esoteric and other spiritual subjects, totalling over 1500 that I've organized so far in an excel spreadsheet. (There are still some I haven't reviewed.) I also have a smaller collection of other books on various religions. Some of the occult books are rare, limited edition, or out of print, and there are new books that are deliberately limited edition coming out more and more recently. (Looking at you, tradcraft publishers...) I want to gather and preserve this stuff but I've never identified as a serious "data hoarder," so I'm not sure where to begin with upgrading my library. It also includes articles, essays, spells, etc. that might be hard to find elsewhere. What should I do with my stuff? (I can upload screenshots later to give you an idea of how it's organized.)

You lose the ability to withhold investment but withholding investment is not good anyway. It seems weirdly good that there's so few drawbacks.
Am I missing something?
Henry Price, the Bedrock. A master stonecutter by trade, Price's study of the geometric arts during the construction of a great temple in the world of Eira, which preceded Old America, allowed him to unlock true arcane power. He used this power to survive the death of Eira, and in Old America he founded the brotherhood of Masons, raising it's first Lodge from out of the earth.
Hall, the Unfettered Prince. During a period of conflict which split Old America in two, the strife spilled over into the order of the Masons, which also split. One of these factions was led by a man called Hall, who bore the title of Prince. D ew of the details regarding precisely why he was capable of have been lost, but thousands of Lodges across Old America were named in his honor. One story which does survive contends he lived for centuries, only dying when he had at last claimed true and final victory.
Washington, the Chief Commander. His skill with oratory was such that he bound other men to his will, compelling his men to fight through starvation and disease in the heart of dismal winter, and winning rulership over all his peers with theirnunanimous consent. Is said to have willingly surrendered this authority in emulation of something called a "Cincinnatus," which is thought to have been the price he paid to lay a curse over his successors, that they might never surpass his glory. Such was his power that, this day, he and his peers are still worshiped as gods by certain strains of antiquarian stupidity.
Hamilton, the Lord of Treasure. His greatest strength was the use of his mastery over numbers to create wealth and debt, strengthening his allies and weakening his enemies. Also associated with the elaborate rhythms and patterns of musical performance, though the details of this are unclear to us. Known to have been murdered by a rival.
Franklin, the High Esotericist. He is most famous for his ability to conjure and control storms, which he utilized both to destroy his enemies and to protect the homes of his allies and subjects. However, he possessed a wide array ofnotuer powers, including the commutation of light, the augmentation of sight, and the alteration of his own body to assume false identities.
Poe, the Lord if Ravens. Among the greatest poets to have ever lived, his work shaped the development of poetry across the entirety of Old America for centuries to follow him. His work is known to have compelled dark thoughts and moods in its

I mean, early game, yeah.
But by champion level dungeons its hardly an issue.
By the time your heroes have a resolve level of around 5 or 6, thier bleed resist is high enough that the Occultist hardly inflicts it anyway.
I used to be split on the Vestal VS Occultists debate, but I think I know a clear winner.
I sware by champion level dungeons the bleed HARDLY ever happens, making it essentially just a massive single target heal. And the chances of getting a heal of 0 seem pretty damn slim, at least in my experience.
By late game the Vestal's healing skills heal so little that she can't even heal a single blow, that measly 11 hp heal becomes obsolete crazy quick, and the 7 hp heal on the whole party can be hit or miss at times, depending on what enemies your facing.
The best part about the Vestal is she can heal multiple people off of deaths door at once, but aside from that, I VASTLY prefer the occultist.
I see so many jokes blowing the 0 heal bleed out of proportion, but by late game, that hardly ever happens.
It seems like Occultist scales late while Vestal is much better mid game, again, at least in my experience.
Plus the Occultist can do so much else! Yes the vestal can stun just like ma boi Occ, and can de-stealth.
But the Occultist can pull, clear corpses, inflict marks, great dmg\protect debuffs, and just has decent damage all around.
The bleed the occultist can give gets him a bad rep, but its such a small chance of happening it dun matter much to me. And with characters like Grave Robber and Hellion able to cure thier own bleed, Leper can raise bleed resist, and Flaggilant being able to transfer bleed from an ally onto him, there are plenty of work arounds should the bleed happen.
Plus the Occultist has great camping skills. Plus 20% damage for an ally at the cost of just 15 stress? That's a steal!
And of course there is the fact that Occultists reduce light level while Vestal's increase it, but I think increasing the light level mid battle is annoying whenever I'm trying to do a fight with 0 light for maximum loot.
The only time the Occultists REALLY screws you over, is if you get a 0 heal and bleed while an ally is on deaths door.
But that has such a slim chance of ever actually happening.
All in all, I think the Occultist bleed is very overblown, and by late game bleed resist is high enough that the bleed is honestly easy to forget it exists.
Sorry for the ramble

The pictures, names, and descriptions of the demons are eerie to say the least (even if some of the drawings are a bit goofy-looking). I'm a God-fearing lady, so needless to say reading this did put me on edge a little bit, but it was too weird and strangely detailed not to investigate. Religious or not, it's definitely a unique read.
Hence, Level 1: 0-13 -> 1-11 (60% 1 bleed) Level 5: 0-22 -> 2-20 (85% 3 bleed)
Divine grace, for reference: Level 1: 4-5 Level 5: 8-9
(This is more a what-if than should-be suggestion)
Commonly the Sun in the card is depicted shining down on a child or children, representing renewal. My shifts the focus from the affected beings below, rather I zoom in on a personification of the Sun, depicting his inner tension through his facial expression.
Hermetically we connect the Sun to world mythologies of Gods that rise again like Jesus or Horus. We see this as a metaphor for destructive and regenerative process pervasive throughout the universe, as everything evolves and refines. This process of course includes us, and spiritually speaking, mythologies the world over speak of an ascension process. Whatβs interesting about this is that a majority of these prophetic stories connect this event to a firery or solar catalyst. Hereβs a short sample of a few of them:
Christian Bible - Greek 2 Peter 3:6-7: βLong ago the earth was covered with water and it was destroyed. But the heaven we see now and the earth we live on now have been kept by His word. They will be kept until they are to be destroyed by fire.β
12-13: βYou should look for the day of God to come. You should do what you can to make it come soon. At that time the heavens will be destroyed by fire. And the sun and moon and stars will melt away with much heat. We are looking for what God has promised, which are new heavens and a new earth. Only what is right and good will be there.β
Zoroastrian Zand-i Vohuman Yasht - Pahlavi Ch 9:7. βThe swift-horsed glorious Sun will go down, and all mankind will believe in the good Religion of Mazda-worship. 8. He, Ahura Mazda, said: "O Spitaman Zartosht! this is what I foretell that this event will bring the creatures back to their life.β
Zoroastrian Yasna 51:9 βWhat recompense thou wilt give to the two parties by thy red Fire, by the molten metal, give us a sign of it in our souls - even the bringing of ruin to the Liar, of blessing to the Righteous.β
Hindu Mahabharata - Sanskrit Mbh.3.187.9369: βAnd that fire called Samvartaka aided by that inauspicious wind, consumeth this world extending for hundreds and thousands of kilometres.β
Mbh.13.14.1289: βThe energy of the Supreme Lord looked like the Samvartaka fire which destroys all creatures at the end of the Yuga.β

There are only some days left until league is over and I want to post a reflection about my Vortex/Occultist CI build (my 3rd character and 1st league).
My character name is VortexedGril (public profile, Hologram_o is acc name). Currently lv 95 (I tend to give up leveling when I reach lv 95 for a character), 10,689 ES, 1042 total mana, 741 mana reserved. I have managed to defeat Catarina deathless (and at worst only one death in 3 runs), Uber Elder (usually one death when solo, but there are deathless runs so lo or not), Elder guardians (no deaths ever), Pale Council, normal & Uber Atziri (one death to uber Atziri, first and only run), Red Elder (no deaths except 1st encounter), Shaper and his guardians (no deaths), and other syndicate encounters (no deaths to any syndicate members ever since level 1).
Vortex (lv 21) as main skill (6 links), Vaal Cold Snap (4 links), cold snap gives frenzy charges, Elemental Equilibrium skills: Orb of storms, Frost Bomb and Storm Brand, and Elemental Overload, easy to get crits on enemies thanks to Storm Brand and orb of storms hitting multiple times in quick succession. Total Vortex DoT in Path of Building: Roughly 415k total dmg effective DPS.
Defense: Vaal Discipline, Clarity (low lv to sustain mana), Aspect of the spider lv 20, Enfeeble + cwdt (low levels) and Immortal Call + Inc Duration
Movement skills: Phase run (lv 11), Flame Dash with faster casting and arcane surge (lv 6).
2/. Other defenses:
Immune to chaos/poison dmg, stun, chill, freeze (ascendancy points), corrupted blood (jewel) and maim (pantheon)
Energy shield occurrence modifier/start of recharge is at 50% only (which could've been a lot higher, but it gives me mostly no problem this league)
Vaal Discipline + Phase run/Flame Dash whenever in grave danger
Flasks: Bismuth flask of resistances (+ 65% elemental resistances), Sulphur Flask of Dousing (deals with ignite while also gives 40% dmg boost), Quicksilver Warding (removes curses and giving 40% extra movement speed), Basalt flask of staunching (defensive and also removes bleed), and Granite Adrenaline (more defense and movement speed). I do have a shock removal flask but rarely use it.
At least 80% elemental resistance (highest is lightning, 113%)
Overall I've had quite a blast with the league thanks to this character. Initial leveling can be a bit painful for some, so I had to rely on Arc + Freezing Pulse until lv 28

I suggest to take a look if you are into the topic and don't know about the S.K. already:
I do.
Why are most of the ED+Cont builds Trickster instead of Occultist? What am I missing; seems like Occulist has a more efficient tree and ascendencies.
