A list of puns related to "List of islands of Hawaii"
Kohalaβs gofundme page is now live for anyone wanting to help with her vet bills!
UPDATE 3/28: Here are some photos from Kohalaβs first week in her new Seattle home! Sheβs settling in perfectly and I couldnβt be more pleased with how to other 2 dogs have welcomed her into the pack! The other female dog absolutely loves her and theyβve been spending a lot of time playing and snoozing together. Kohala is making fantastic progress on potty + crate training. She responds well to the LIMA training approach and very quickly figures out what I want her to do. Sheβs becoming more and more puppy like everyday and Iβm so happy to see her coming out of her shell since her rescue.
I want to thank everyone who has donated and shared her progress, especially those who have messaged me with kind words and support! With the help of everyone on Gofundme, sheβs been able to get all of her veterinary care and is on an all natural puppy diet. Iβll be posting progress photos as she gains more weight :)
VET UPDATE: We took her in to the vet and she had all of her vaccinations, dewormer, and microchip done. Sheβs not pregnant, just in heat. Obviously weβll have her spayed at a later time when she isnβt in heat. The vet noticed that she has a weird injury on her front left leg that looks like an entry and exit wound. He thinks she may have been shot or impaled. She has pain medicine for the limp and if it doesnβt improve, weβre going to have her X-rayed when weβre back on the mainland. Overall, sheβs looking good! Just need to fatten her up to a healthy weight.
UPDATE: we called Kohala animal rescue and spoke to them. They said if we surrender her here sheβll be euthanized. Theyβre helping us with paper work and sheβs our dog now! Sheβs coming home with us to Seattle!
UPDATE #2: we named her Kohala after the area we found her in. Sheβs already cuddly and quirky and completely inseparable from us. We tried to set her up a bed in the garage, but she started crying when we walked away. Weβre going to hide her in our room until we can find somewhere pet friendly to move to in the morning. Thank you to everyone for all your kind words and support!
My friend and I found this young dog in the middle of the rain forest on Hawaii and itβs obvious sheβs been out here a long time. Sheβs extremely skinny, her tummy and vulva are swollen, so we think she may be pregnant or sick. She obviously

The Hawaii Dept. of Land and Natural Resources announced that a March 26 shark incident on the North Kona coast (news article) will be removed from its Shark Incidents List.
Justification from DLNR's facebook page:
"only encounters in which a shark bites a person or board are listed, not when a shark bites a boat. A previous incident at Anaehoβomalu Bay on March 26, 2019, has therefore been removed...as analysis of the evidence suggests that the person involved was not bitten by the shark.
It is uncertain now how anyone in the future studying Hawaii shark incidents involving watercraft would be made aware of this incident. (A random search of news reports is not always a reliable source.)
Canoe paddler Michael Bernstone was not hurt, but he asserted a shark bit his watercraft, a canoe, repeatedly circled and bumped it, prompting his fall into the water and that at times he fended off the shark with a paddle.
On April 24 a poster on the Big Island sub discussed the similarity of this case to two others on this coastline.
This is not the first time there has been an issue of a shark incident in Hawaii being excluded by officials charged with recording or analyzing such incidents. In his 1993 book Tigers of the Sea: Hawaii's Deadly Sharks, Jim Borg reported that the authors of Hawaii's prominent 1994 study A Review of Shark Control in Hawaii with Recommendations for Future Research excluded four incidents from qualifying as a shark attack.
They include the disappearance of Bryan Adona on Oahu's North Shore in Feb. 1992. Shark attacks in Hawaii up to 1993 were compiled by researcher George Balazs. His document, THE ANNOTATED LIST OF SHARK ATTACKS IN THE HAWAIIAN ISLANDS,1779-1993, provides this data about the Adona attack (Incident # 95):
>Disappeared while body-boarding late in the afternoon at a surfing site about 1.2 mile southwest of Waimea Bay...The following morning, 2-2

Hey there! I'm not a nomad, but i am a remote worker and I'm looking to get out of Brooklyn for a few weeks to a month. I keep coming back to Hawaii, specifically the Big Island. I work West Coast hours, so my work hours would be 6am - 2pm there. It's a little on the early side, but from what I understand the Big Island doesn't really have much happening late into the night so I wouldn't be missing out too much by going to bed at 10 on the weekdays. Is this true? Also, is there a specific area or areas i should stay? I was thinking of splitting up my time between the east and west sides. How is getting around there? Are there any things I should know/tips on visiting?
Was browsing Zillow the other day and came across some crazy cheap property on the island of Hawaii.
Why so cheap? A nice 2 bedroom for < 100k seems insane. Most obvious reason is the proximity to the volcano that blew itβs top recently. Any other reasons? Crime doesnβt seem high according to Trulia map.
Another lifelong Hawaii resident here toying with the idea of moving to Vegas (the "9th Hawaiian Island") because the cost of living here in Hawaii is getting out of control.
I've been to Vegas many times and both me and girlfriend have extended family and friends living there, so I know what to expect.
I work in IT, main employer I'm looking to work for is DoD (currently a DoD contractor here in Hawaii), so that basically means Nellis AFB and I would like to live nearby so any suggested neighborhoods? If a DoD job doesnt work out 2nd industry i'd work for is Hospitality or Gaming Industry, i know theres always IT jobs in those industries.
Now a more vague question, how much savings should I have before I move? Keep in mind Im coming from Hawaii so literally everything I have need to be shipped by air. I plan to sell maybe 80% of my possessions before I move, (including my Car its a 20 year old junker that I've been wanting to get rid of anyways), for the simple fact I just dont want to deal with the PIA of packing and paying for all my crap to be shipped. I'd rather just buy new crap in Vegas.
Im currently in the "thinking" about it phase of moving to vegas just looking at my options, so no set in stone dates but I'd like to move within 2 years from now (2021), so I got plenty more time to plan
Let me preface this by saying there is not much opportunity for jobs out here. Only a few new jobs come up every day if that on Indeed.
I am aspiring to move into Information Technology / Computer Science. I recently graduated with an Associate's in Information Technology and I already have a Bachelor's in Liberal Studies. I love programming and want to eventually do it remotely from anywhere in the world.
As I said, there's not much out here. I'm going through "Automate the Boring Stuff With Python." There's not much a tech scene here and it's hard to meet my own kind of people.
I've been applying for jobs in all sorts of places with hardly any callbacks. I went to one interview and was rejected before the actual real interviews took place. It's frustrating. Right now things kind of feel hopeless as well.
What can I do to improve my situation? Should I go for a Bachelor's in Computer Science?
