[TOMT] [MOVIE] French short film about a hotel manager mathematician who manages to propose a woman because of many unlikely events coming together

I watched it on cable TV in a hotel where they showed some French channel whose name I forgot. It was subbed.

The story starts by the protagonist narrating how his maths skills helps him manage the hotel well because he keeps a good track of all his guest's activities to provide them a good service or something. The last scene in the short film was red balloons flying up. And the protagonist saying something like "it took all these unlikely events with such low probability to allow me to propose to the woman I otherwise couldn't have".

repudiating as sordid and ignoble the whole trade of engineering, and every sort of art that lends itself to mere use and profit, Archimedes placed his whole affection and ambition in those purer speculations where there can be no reference to the vulgar needs of life.

I created a list of YouTube channels about films and thought you might like it

EDIT: If you have any suggestions include YT links!

I created it for a comment on r/movies but I think you guys will appreciate it too.

  • Channel Awesome The guys who make Nostalgia Critic and a lot of other cool stuff. Their Vlogs are the best and Nostalgia Critic is hilarious.
  • Channel Criswell He and Every Frame a Painting share the first place. Period. Long, in depth analysis on film movements, films, directors and filmmaking techniques. His "___ in Storytelling" is a great place to start when you want to learn more about film. "Composition in Storytelling" is a personal favorite.
  • Chris Hartwell / The Hart Beat Haven't seen many of his reviews but I liked what I saw.
  • Chris Stuckmann The r/movies among the YT critics. I think that's all I need to say. He is competent but concentrates on mainstream movies. Nothing wrong with that but maybe not what you are looking for if you want to get away from the mainstream.
  • CineFix Best top lists on YT. They know their stuff. Their roundtable discussions are quite interesting and they have alot of other random formats. Not exactly a channel that teaches you a lot of stuff but it's a great part of the conversations around film.
  • CinemaTyler I gotta confess that most of his movies haven't made a big expression on me. I don't remember watching most of them. His "What I Learned From..." series is great though. Absolutely check that out.
  • Darren - MUST SEE FILMS He makes a bunch of everything. His love letter to cinema and the video on his filmmaking journey are worth a look.
  • Every Frame a Painting As already said he is one of my two favorites. He is a professional editor and it shows. CHECK HIS STUFF OUT!
  • Film-Drunk Love Sadly an inactive channel with just 7 videos but every single one of them is worth chacking out. Especially his Goodfe

What I love about the horror films of 2014-2016 is there are enough really good ones to fill up an October horror watch list. I love Train to Busan, Spring, Bone Tomahawk, The Invitation and Don't Breathe.

I was putting together an [October horror streaming calendar] (https://moviesfilmsandflix.com/2016/09/27/the-mff-halloween-horror-calendar-31-streaming-films-for-31-days/) and I realized there have been a lot of solid horror(ish) films released between 2014-2016. I don't think a lot of them are classics but they are really good, know what they are and I'm excited to see what a lot of the directors do next. Here are some of the films.

The Babadook, Housebound, Tusk, Dead Snow: Red vs. Dead, As Above So Below, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, 13 Sins, It Follows, Late Phases, Honeymoon, What We Do in the Shadows, Creep, Unfriended, Crimson Peak. The Final Girls, Insidious Chapter 3, The Visit, Bone Tomahawk, We Are Still Here, The Witch, Goodnight Mommy, The Hallow, Deathgasm, The Nightmare, Turbo Kid, The Gift, Green Room, The Guest, Cheap Thrills, The Conjuring 2, Don’t Breathe, Hush, Train to Busan, The Wailing, The Neon Demon, The Shallows, The Invitation, 10 Cloverfield Lane.

I think my top 10 are Spring, Bone Tomahawk, It Follows, Train to Busan, Cheap Thrills, Don't Breathe, The Invitation, What We Do in the Shadows, Honeymoon and Creep.

With the month of October fast approaching, I thought I'd compile a list of Covid-inspired horror films for us all to binge-watch over Zoom together!!

Before I get into my list I'd like to invite you all to my socially distanced Halloween party on Zoom too; you must be double jabbed to attend (I'm thinking of restricting it even further so that only those of us who have had their first booster jab can attend; I was inspired by Israel's brave and reasonable decision to do the same with their vaccine passport!!) and you must wear a face-mask, even if you're wearing a Michael Myers or Ghostface mask!! I'm going as the Delta variant, as there is nothing more terrifying!!

Here is my list of essential horror films for Halloween 2021:

Contagion: Literally the past year and a half. My hubby and I watched this movie on Netflix during first lockdown, snuggled together on the couch underneath a blanket in our matching Minion onesies and bear slippers, warming our hands on our hotty-hotty-choc-chocs like Baby Yoda with his little mug in that one meme I've shared a thousand times on Facebook. 10/10

John Carter: The Thing: I discovered this hidden gem the other day!! A group of men (ugh) are socially distancing in the North Pole but one of them is unvaccinated and is passing the virus to the others. It's basically Among Us: The Movie, with Kurt Cobain trying to figure out who the filthy plague-rat is. The jump-scare during the lateral flow test scene is one of the most spooky things I've ever seen. The CGI hasn't aged very well. 3/10

Quarantine: An outbreak of Covid happens in an apartment complex and the government turns up to help those inside and does a damn fine job of it. There's a Spanish shot-for-shot remake which I've heard is pretty good but subtitles make my head hurt so I think we should all stick to this one. 7/10

The Breakfast Club: A group of teenagers are led astray by an anti-vax shit-head chud who thinks he's a rebel but he's actually just putting everyone's lives at risk and just needs to die already. That poor Principal's authority is defied at every turn and it's sickening to see!! VERY PROBLEMATIC MOVIE AND NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART OR EASILY TRIGGERED. 0/10

28 Days Later: What would have happened if we didn't lockdown at the start of all this. The shots of an empty London make me recall fond memories of first lockdown when I was baking bread, browsing Reddit and playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons from the safety and warmth of my bedsheet cocoon. 5/10

Those are my films. I know I've thrown a few obscure deep-cuts in there but they're worth a watch, unlike **I Am Lege

For my friends birthday, I compiled a flashdrive of what I think are the 20 greatest films ever made. I made a list of the films and brief information about them. I was wondering if I could get any feedback on things that need improving in it. Thanks!

Each section was given a title, description, run time, what makes it stand out to me, and what she should be prepared for before watching it. Is there anything that needs work or changing? Thanks! (The formatting is strange here, but it looks fine in the document I have for her)

"So these are the 20 greatest movies ever made (in my opinion). Here is a list of them and various important things about them before you watch them. I hope you like them, this was the gift the required the most work time wise. Feel free to text me as you watch them and we can watch them together. I included subtitle files for them, too if you want to use them. The application in here is called VLC, I recommend installing it, it’s a really good video player. If you want subtitles, just click on the file (moviename.srt) and drag it on top of the video. I hope you like them! I’d recommend watching them from 20th to 1st. A lot of them are long, so feel free to take your time watching them.

20. The Thing (1982)

Description - Researchers in Antartica are attacked by a shape-shifting alien and have to find out how to stop it before it’s too late.

Run Time - 1 hour 49 minutes

Why I Love It - John Carpenter is one of the best horror filmmakers there has ever been (he also made They Live and Halloween). This film is masterpiece by the way of practical effects with the monster and the unparalleled sense of paranoia made throughout the film.

Things to Watch Out For - It can get really gory at times (though it’s rarely constant) and is very tense throughout)

19. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)

Description - I can’t explain much about it without spoiling it, but it’s about the difficulties of relationships and whether people who have differences can work through them or not.

Run Time - 1 hour 48 minutes

Why I Love It - It can be painful, but it’s one of the strongest stories about love and matches up a lot with my views on love

Things to Watch Out For - It can be sad during parts, but it’s worth it. The ending is more hopeful than not. Jim Carrey’s ass is visible temporarily.

18. Nightcrawler (2014)

Description - Sociopathic Lou Bloom (JAKE MOTHERFUCKING GYLLENHAAL) decides to enter crime journalism, where he goes around filming horrific accidents and crimes for the local news.

Run Time - 1 hour 57 minutes

Why I Love It - It is one of the best cinematographic films made in my opinion as well as Jake’s character being hypnotizing while simultan

Unlike many other episodes, all of the movies discussed on this new episode can be watched on YouTube, as they are all ostensibly in the public domain.

They were talking about a few channels to follow on youtube as well, like pizzaflix and dk classics.

I'm really sad about the fact that one of my favorite movies this year is receiving still no acclamation in these end of the year 'unnoticed' film lists; The Drop (Tom Hardy, James Gandolfini) was an incredible film by all means, any thoughts as to why it still hasn't gotten much attention?

I know it was limited release and I'm lucky to have seen it (twice). I love it so much, the performance by Tom Hardy as Bob, a mysterious nitwit who just 'runs the bah'. His lines and performance in general really made the movie, but luckily didn't overshadow Gandolfini's performance as the former mobster in a mid life crisis. The plot, the dog, the twist to the audience at the end, and especially the enormous buildup of tension was just so well done and I love that film to no end, I imagine this film will remain in my Top 5 for many years to come! What were your thoughts on it? Am I the lone weirdo who thought this movie was magnificent?
