Exploration, my master list of questions. #1

I am 17 years old and live in England, I have allways wanted to be a Geologist since I first visited Oxford natural history museum 12 years ago, not just for the actual Geology but mainly for the exploration and discovery that comes with it.

Job availability

Over the past few months I have been questioning myself, as I feel like taking a BSC in Geology is a massive career gamble. On one hand I could get a career climbing mountains and adventuring around the world, on the other hand I could end up in an office advising a local council.

How difficult is it to get an exploration job, and what should I do to increase my odds?

Types of career

Mineral exploration has allways interested me because of its outdoors nature, I love exploring and hiking so it seems like a perfect fit.

However I have also heard about Hydrology and Vulcanology having good options for outdoors based careers.

What are the options for outside based jobs across Geology, and how do they differ?

Universities and degrees to choose

I am looking at doing a BSC in Geology from either Southampton or Leicester University. Both have great contacts in Exploration, The former seems better at Oceanography and the latter seems better at Vulcanology.

However many other universities offer Geography degrees with a heavy Geology focus, and there are a lot of options for Joint honours. Will these bring any benefits over a single honours BSC?

Abroad work

Another reason why I am keen on Geology is the options to work abroad. I have been told there is a large demand for most Geology fields in Africa, South East Asia and South America.

I am also a keen language learner and geographer, so this seems perfect for me. Honestly I would take any opportunity I get to leave the UK!

What is the best way to get into abroad jobs, and is it worth the effort?

Career progression

I have heard that jobs get a lot less outdoors as you get more experienced. Is this allways the case, and what should I expect?

Alternative careers

Assuming I cannot get a job in Geology, what else can I do with a geo BSC?

Park rangering and disaster management sound interesting, especially in the developing world.

Also, considering my interests in exploring, would any other European degrees interest me?

Thanks in advance, and Rock on !

Being re-admitted for a surgical exploration of my tethered cord surgery incision. I’m hoping for the best outcome. On the waiting list for either a bed or an OR, whichever happens first.

I got an infection in my wound 2.5 weeks post op, and now they have to go in and clean it out, put in a drain, and hope that I heal up in 1-3 days. Waiting for admitting to find me either a bed or an operating room.

Spine surgery is fun. /s

List of noob questions dealing with Exploration

Me: Alpha User, just Got Probe Ship (Minmatar)

What I've Done : Did the starter stuff on explorations, have done the generic wiki reading on fittings for the probe. My broke ass is waiting for the training to get done on the various drones. Cloaks are way outside my budget right now, but I am aware how important that is.

Questions:

  1. Are drones use it and lose it or can they come back to your ship?

  2. Probes can add up over time, anyway to make this a cheaper thing that doesn't break my bank account as quickly as starting out.

  3. Embod is sorta crowded with scanner noobs, where in that segment of space can I push my ship out a littler further (maybe like 3 or 4 jumps?) that would make scanning not so clustered around others.

List of things we need, to make NMS the best space sim ever (exploration wise)

SC will never come out, ED it's missing the terraformed planetary landing. You guy (Hello Games) already figured it out the hardest parts: terraformation and living being. Now we need all the rest to fully enjoy the galaxies.

These are my ideas:

We need to get closer to the suns (with all their variations) - The planets should really turn around the sun - Gass giants (if possible, would be awesome and super dangerous to fly into) - Explorable rings around planets - Asteroid bubble around the solar system - Lava planet - Ice planets - Terraformed planets with variations (poles, deserts, oceans, forests, rivers...just like Earth) - Pulsars - Nebulas - Other black holes

I'm a day one fan and always been, I still believe in you.

With love and support.

Looking for a list of possible exploration site drops

I'm still a newbro, and right now doing exploration is my best source of income. I've done some google searching and also searching in reddit, but I can't find what I'm looking for - and I find it hard to believe it doesn't exist.

Basically, I'd like to know where to find a list of every drop possible for relic/data sites in K-Space. (W-space would be nice too, but not needed).

As an example, say I was targeting Sansha space for exploration. I'd like to know what all the possible drops are and use that info to evaluate potential profit and cherry pick the cans using a cargo scanner.

Could anyone direct me to a resource that would provide this info?

The true meaning of graduation: an intellectual exploration of the musical accompaniment

It has come to my attention that large schwaths of the Graduation fanbase is abhorently absent when it comes to in depth and detailed explorations of the minute details behind the true meaning of graduations plot and themes. What began as a simplistic narrative about the academic undertakings of a rogues gallery of verbose characters has evolved, or perhaps, graduated, into something far grander than any but the mastermind behind the intricate details could ever have anticipated. Truly, the evolution of our favored podcast has been one without peer, but do we, the peons, truly understand the depths to which our story has unfolded? Let us examine closely just one small aspect of the grander narrative to help us in better understanding the vision that we have been bestowed in order for us to properly endeavor to live up to the expectations set forth by our brave and intelligent dungeon master and friend. You see, an important part of any audio experience is the tonal impact its score can provide, and Graduations musical accompaniment hides within it the secrets needed to fully understand the twists and turns our adventure has taken us through. What began as a lighthearted musical interlude to both introduce us to our biweekly entertainment, and also exfiltrate us back to our reality, has become somewhat dissonant and discordant by comparison to the grand ideals being pursued by the characters we have grown to love. While this may seem an error on the part of the showrunner, a missed opportunity to prepare for the inevitable adjustment of the direction of the goings on, one that has left the once jaunty lighthearted theme so perfectly in tune with the educational hijinks of heroes of academia now somewhat out of place in our dismantling of capitalistic systems in a corrupted world, we must never discount that this dissonance was, in fact, purposeful in its execution. Far be it from me to assume or insinuate that the masterwork behind the scenes simply failed to prepare for the turn in the midst of the story. Instead, I would argue, the abstract nature of the theme no longer matching the energy of the overall podcast is instead meant to evoke the very beings who led us upon this path: chaos and order. Indubitibly, we are now met with serious discussions if potential world ending phenomenon and grand heists whose purpose is to disrupt entire monetary systems but are met with the same jovial instumentation we have always been gifted. A chaotic separation indeed,

List of Mempool explorers that tell you an estimate time for your transaction confirmation

As a Bitcoin user, you must have at some time experienced bitcoin transactions getting stuck and not getting confirmed. Bitcoin transaction fees fluctuates in real-time and using a low fee can sometimes make your transaction stuck in the mempool for hours.

Most transaction explorers tell you whether or not the transaction has confirmed but do not tell you how long it will take for the transaction to confirm. There are some that do give you an estimate of the average time it will take for your transaction confirmation. Here is a list you can use:

#1 mempool.space: This site shows you where your transaction is in a mempool and an estimated time for its confirmation.

  • Neat graphical representation of the blocks along with the position of your transaction block.
  • Does not give you any other detail about your transaction.

#2 Blockonomics: This blockchain explorer is one of the few places where you are shown an estimated time for your confirmation along with other details of your transaction.

  • Provides all the details about your transaction that a blockchain explorer shows.
  • Gives you an estimate in minutes for your transaction confirmation.

#3 Blockstream: Gives you an estimate of the number of blocks it will take for your transaction to be mined.

  • Provides all the details about your transaction that a blockchain explorer shows.
  • Does not provide an estimated time but only shows the estimated number of block.
  • (Each block takes 10 minutes to mine, so based on the number of blocks shown, simply multiply by 10 and get an estimate in minutes)

Some other sites that don't give information about your specific transaction but tell you an estimated time for confirmation based on the fees.

Where is the public exploration of financial motivations for reopening schools?

To what extent is the urgency to reopen U.S. schools due to district financial crises? Districts must be internally discussing the financial implications of remaining remote. Attendance and enrollment - often important parts of district funding formulas - are down for many remote-only schools. And Biden's recently proposed relief plan provides further financial incentives to reopen for revenue. Meanwhile, many city leaders are committed to recreating the conditions necessary for an open economy; which includes physical spaces for the care and supervision of young people. Modern schools, of course, are expected to serve this function.

Can districts afford remote learning? Is anyone publicly exploring how funding dilemmas are influencing reopening plans?

HPMoR as a vehicle for the rational exploration of fanfiction tropes

Back in 2017-2018, I liked using HPMoR characters to see how different tropes I enjoy in fanfictionβ€”Groundhog Loop, Soulmates, Hanahaki, among many othersβ€”would work if the protagonists had at least half a brain cell between them.

Seeking validation, I've just published one such exploration from 2018β€”the only one written down as a complete story.

https://archiveofourown.org/works/29450001

Very mild spoilers to the ending, but can be read almost fandom-blind.

It would probably work best if you know what hanahaki is. TS;DRF (Too Shippy; Didn't Read Fanlore) version would be "If you are in love and it's unrequited, you cough up flowers," and it is usually used for drama and angst.

Any feedback, including exclusively negative one, would be appreciated.

The issue with RE:3 isn't the cut content, is the lack of exploration

The issue with RE:3 isn't the cut content or even it's lenght, it's the lack of exploration. The demo plays like you would expect the game to play, and I spent a good hour there. But the main game is most straightforward and pulls you from "stage" to "the next stage", which makes Nemesis, the part where the game should truly shine extreeemely short. Instead of a Mr. X on steroids we have a very short part of the game where he may come after you and the rest are prescripted sequences, which I find really awesome like the boss fights, but it loses impact because of that.

The og RE3 was short indeed, but you had objectives that made you backtrack and explore many different areas of the city which makes it really feel like a Raccoon City in chaos, like when you had do find the parts to get the cable car moving. In RE:3 many of those parts, like the gas station, you just go there for 5 seconds, and you just sprint by them. As I've said, it's not like that it wasn't a short visit in the og game, but it made them feel like a proper place. And you could go back to original areas and see what happenned to Dario, or find survivors that didn't make through. Also the separation of areas make some great content underused, like the Drein Deimos which are super creepy, but they're only at the Energy Station.

I don't think RE:3 is a terrible game, that it's lenght is a problem nor that the cut content is a main issue, but it's game design and lack of explorability makes the city feel very linear and Nemesis underused, thus making his other scripted encounters less impactful.

Would love to know what you people thought about the game.

Players' cheat sheet: List of edition changes from Explorers to Adventure

Due to a sports-related injury and subsequent surgery, I've been chairbound all week so I decided to make a cheat sheet to help my Savage World gaming groups convert their characters from Explorers Deluxe to SWADE. It turned out to be quite the list and I haven't been able to find anything similar online, so I figured I'd share it.

Anyways, I think it is pretty useful to players who are familiar with the previous version, but haven't read the new rules in full. It covers all the bits needed for character creation and most of the stuff that a typical player should be aware of.

If I got anything wrong or missed anything significant let me know. Enjoy.

How to export a list of files (not just names but all columns) from a Windows Explorer folder to Excel

There really should be an easy/fast way to do this. Something like: selecting files in explorer, right click, export to Excel. Buuut there isn't. Also, the whole "Copy as Path" is useless for what I want. My files names are an absolute mess but the data collected in the other columns is pretty fine. I want to be able to add any columns I want and copy that data to excel, be it for music playlist, images, etc. I just want my detailed explorer list to show in Excel. How can I do this?

I have just released my Steam game, Jung's Labyrinth. Incredible feeling! It's a psychological exploration game that uses Jungian psychology, mythology, alchemical and dream symbolism in a series of active imaginations to map the process of individuation

I have posted here about the game a few times before, and almost all of you have shown huge interest and support - thank you for that, I don't think I would have finished the game in time without knowing people actually want to play it.

Today I have released the final version of the game on Steam. It's available for Windows and Mac and most PCs will run it without any problems. The Linux build is being worked on, there are some issues that need to be solved. Hopefully next week.

And here are the links!

Can someone please make a list or link me with a complete list of all the FFXV special events like the ffxiv collab or assassin’s creed collab. I missed a lot since 2017 and I’m trying to explore all of it. Thank you.

Just wanna say; the new file explorer search in version 1909 is really good; nearly instantly lists search results and returns a list of results very quickly when performing a full search!

The new file explorer search is really great! I've tested it out in my documents and a few other places, it seems to find results pretty much instantly and doesn't spend more than a minute performing a search when you do a full search like before, it now shows results pretty much straight away.

Really good job to the team that implemented this, it makes search actually usable now. I think this and the Snip & Sketch tool are some of my favourite changes to Windows in recent memory, really feels like Windows is maturing and dumping some of the baggage from the Windows 7 days. Maybe soon we shall be blessed with a Fluent file explorer? If not, the search functionality is a good first step towards that.

Edit: Only limitation is that it is not instant if you try to search your entire C drive, which isn't surprising considering how much indexing that would require in order to work. Still, being able to search properly in the documents folder and other similar user folders is a great improvement.

Some screenshots are below for anyone who is on mobile/new reddit:

Upon typing results are shown straight away.

Pressing \"enter\" or clicking search shows a full list pretty much instantly as well.

Mars is more than a place of exploration. It serves as an experiment demonstrating that a planet run by scientists doesn't get messed up.
