A list of puns related to "List of The Rockford Files episodes"
If anyone remembers, would you mind telling me which one it was in? Thanks in advance for indulging a stupid question.
Edit: more specifically, a parody of the opening titles.
I just got hold of the 6 seasons of The Rockford Files (74-80, 123 episodes) starring James Garner. Besides being a great show from the 70s it has an amazing number of cars from that era in the background, of which the muscle cars were/are my favorite. I find it fun now (vice back in the day when I was a teenager) when I watch it to look at the cars in the scenes' background more so than watching the actors/action.
I also google some of the actors and found one the other day that was born in the late 1800s!
Anyone else remember this show? What did you think of it?

I have been doing a binge watch of The Rockford Files, David Chase wrote most of the scripts, as I was watching I noticed a lot of character actors and have been looking them up on IMDB I was surprised to see so many of them appeared in The Sopranos. Sadly since I started watching I didn't keep track, I didn't expect it to be a subject, Joe Santos and many others, a list would be nice. A Google search showed me nothing.
Seasons ranked: 4 > 3 > 2 > 1 (Back half of S3 is probably the most flawless storytelling of the show, but I think S4 overall was more my jam).

Feel free to list your favorite episodes/characters as well, Iβm interested to see!
I'm on the episode with the teen werewolf stuff and just... bad. I know some people say they liked it all and some said it dropped a lot after 5 (the original planned finale). I think maybe because we binged it it was easier to notice how drastically different Season 8 is. The writing is cheaper, the stories are less interesting. It just seems to have lost the momentum and arch it had and now is meandering around and lost some of its charm.
Dont get me wrong , I love the the show, and Sam and Dean and the whole dynamic, and will keep watching because I've heard some of the later seasons are fantastic. Was just wondering if anyone ever had the idea to break down non-essential episodes lol. I know everything builds towards a whole, but are there any they could just be skipped? Like this teen werewolf episode was terrible... my 40 minutes could have been better spent lol.
im trying to catch up on x-files before the new season starts, but i still have 6 seasons to watch. just wondering if anyone knows what episodes i can skip that dont have anything to do with the

Just thought it was interesting how many they have in common.
The Rockford files is just incredible all the way through. Classic detective drama with quite a bit of humor, 70s retro through and through, and wonderful 70s guest stars and crime show tropes abound. In pretty much every episode Jim Rockford gets beat up by chuckleheads, thrown in jail, and there's a guaranteed full-on 70s style car chase, complete with screaming guitar solo. And he never gets paid by his clients.
The characters are all great. Jim Rockford himself, a down-on-his luck ex-con (well, pardoned con) Private Investigator with a lot of heart, living in a trailer by the beach, his father Rocky, his best and least trusted friend Angel Martin (a two bit con-man and coward), his friend in the P.D. Dennis Becker who Jim constantly leans on for information and help, and his trusty lawyer and sometime love-interest Beth (I mentioned he gets tossed in jail every episode, right?)
The guest appearances are pretty neat, and you'll see many memorable faces, Isaac Hayes has a repeating part for instance, and in the later seasons Tom Selleck makes two appearances as P.I. Lance White, presaging the role of Magnum. Larry Minetti (Rick) and Roger E. Mosley (TC) also cameo.
It's also worth noting that several episodes of Rockford involving organized crime were written by David Chase, who would go on to create the Sopranos.
Magnum P.I. is the perfect follow-on from Rockford. It's basically the same show, but a little more flashy as we've moved into the 80s, and with a bit more subtlety in the writing. Thankfully, Selleck doesn't reprise the Lance White role which would've been a bit stiff. Instead Magnum is a Vietnam Vet, troubled by his past, and living by the grace of his benefactor, billionaire Robin Masters. The cast is perfect, and bro-mance abounds. The show oscillates between pure detective stories and car chases and episodes concerned with Thomas reflecting on his career in the Navy, and combat buddies. The PTSD epsides in later seasons get pretty heavy, and really, there's not a bad episode.
Anyway, whatever, I just thought I'd recommend to anyone with time on their hands and an interest in well-written action detective shows to be sure and not miss these old gems. I'd love to read any of your thoughts, memories, or ruminations on these two great classic shows.
So, I'm on Amazon Prime watching the first season of the Rockford Files and guess what? James Rockford takes a break from his Malibu trailer to visit Las Vegas! These shots blew me away, I had to pull some screenshots. Vegas around 1974, look at all that empty land!
