I'm using a throwaway account for personal reasons and I'm not sure if it is okay for me to post about this issue that I'm facing in this sub.
My dad is from Sri Lanka and he's been in Malaysia for over 20 years and my mum is a Malaysian Sinhalese. I'm aware of the war that happened and I understand the frustrations he had which he still carries until today.
Both my parents hate the Tamils so much that there isn't a day that goes by without them talking about it. I find it toxic and frustrating! Being born in Malaysia, I never bothered about someone's race when I want to talk to them and be friends with. I've had Tamil friends that have helped me a lot throughout my life. There was also some bad experience but I feel that race shouldn't be held accountable for someone's bad behavior.
I'm dating a Tamil guy and I have to keep it as a secret because my parents are completely against it. I did bring it up once and I was treated badly. I'm already turning 27 and I feel really depressed about this situation.
I don't understand what's with the extreme hate. Is it normal for Sinhalese to hate Tamils? I don't want to cause a controversial issue here.
I would like to start off with a disclaimer to say that please do not send hate to any of the groups mentioned but to criticize the company. So I probably won't do this, considering a lot of things, but as a hypothetical, I've been thinking of listing every user who's:
- called me a slur
- told me to kill myself
- threatened to kill me
- threatened to rape me
- deliberately misgendered me
- told me that I will "never be a real woman" or something along those lines
- admitted to actively stalking my posting times, etc.
I would keep this hypothetical list on my profile, and maybe post it to my personal subreddit r/pirakaplantmoment. Anyone who sees that list isn't told to do anything about it, it's just a statement.
Does this make me evil or whatever? CMA.
Hey all, long shot I know but I've gotten re-interested in 9/11 since the 20th anniversary happened and I've read in many places that there were 18 people who survived in the South Tower who were in the impact zone of Flight 175. But I can't find a list of them anywhere. I can find individual accounts from different people but no complete list.
I was just hoping someone may have one from some source.

Also, what can I do when some of a certain aggregate of people are offended by one term to describe them, and another part of that exact same aggregate are offended by wha I thought was the preffered term to describe them?
Specifically I'm talking about learning that Eskimo is an offensive word, and researching it to find some people find Arctic Peoples offensive, some find indiginous persons offensive and plenty of people from this certain group find Eskimo to be the preferred term. I THINK Inuit is the acceptable word now from what I've found, feel free to correct if I'm wrong. But even then "Inuit peoples" is offensive, even though just saying something like "blacks" or "gays" is offensive to people because you're not including to the word people after it, even though it seems it's very clearly implied I'm talking about people when I use labels in that way.

Record 5.7m people in England waiting for hospital treatment

The number of people waiting for hospital treatment in England has hit a record high of 5.7 million as the NHS struggles to clear the growing backlog of care worsened by the pandemic.
The waiting list is rising by about 100,000 a month as more people who did not seek or could not access NHS treatment over the past 18 months visit a GP and are referred to hospital. The number of patients waiting more than two years has risen to nearly 10,000.
Prof Stephen Powis, the NHS national medical director, said: “There is no doubt the NHS is running hot, with the highest ever number of patients seen in A&E in September – 14 times as many Covid patients in hospital compared with the same month last year, and record 999 ambulance calls.”
Waiting lists for procedures such as a hip or knee replacement or cataract removal continue to grow. At the end of August, 5.7 million people were waiting to start treatment, according to the NHS England data. This is the highest number since records began in August 2007.
