A list of puns related to "List of Gold Coast Suns records"
Itβs an odd statistic but I thought Iβd share.
Gold Coast's current form has been incredibly poor over the last 3 months of the season following a 3-1 start. The team has been winless in 12 straight matches so one could assume its close to record breaking. However it really isn't.
The Suns have lost 12 straight but still have a long way to go if they are to pass the AFL record of 26 games without a win. This was set by the Sydney Swans when they went winless from round 9 of the 1992 season to roundd 13 of the 1993 season. After a breakthrough win the Swans proceeded to go on a ten game losing streak so they lost 36 of 37 games just as an additional fact.
Below is a list of the biggest losing streaks in the AFL era (1990-->).
Year of streak start | Round of streak start | Team | Amount of losses |
---|---|---|---|
1992 | 9 | Sydney | 26 |
2012 | 20 | GWS | 21 |
2011 | 18 | Gold Coast | 21 |
1995 | 9 | [Fitzroy] | 21 |
2000 | 22 | Fremantle | 18 |
2004 | 9 | Richmond | 15 |
2007 | 12 | Carlton | 14 |
2006 | 2 | Essendon | 14 |
1996 | 9 | [Fitzroy] | 14 |
2009 | 19 | Richmond | 13 |
1998 | 17 | Collingwood | 13 |
2019 | 4 | Gold Coast | 12 |
2016 | 5 | Brisbane | 12 |
2013 | 15 | Melbourne | 12 |
1997 | 15 | Hawthorn | 12 |
1990 | 20 | Brisbane | 12 |

This eclipsed the previous the previous record 27914 which the Suns played in front of against Carlton in Rd2, 2011 which was of course their first ever game in the AFL.
Since 1998, the teams who also qualified for finals in these circumstances:
- 2002 Parramatta Eels (6th, 10W-2D-12L)
- 2002 St George Illawarra Dragons (7th, 9W-3D-12L)
- 2002 Canberra Raiders (8th, 10W-1D-13L)
- 2004 Canberra Raiders (8th, 11W-13L)
- 2007 Brisbane Broncos (8th, 11W-13L)
- 2016 Gold Coast Titans (8th, 11W-1D-12L)
- 2019 Brisbane Broncos (8th, 11W-1D-12L)
Of these previous 7 teams, the 2002 Dragons are the only team who managed to win a finals game, beating 2nd place Newcastle 26-22.

Anecdotally has there been much movement with border opening etc on Gold Coast school waiting lists? Have our name down at a few and got an offer but wondering whether other offers may be on their way? Has there been an exodus or did we strike it lucky on one offer? We recently moved so havenβt been on the lists long. Edit: Really just after information about whether waiting lists are moving not school advice thanks
The Gold Coast Suns lacked a real VFL list in 2021 opting to use academy prospects to fill required spots on game day and have yet to confirm that they are going to do anything different in the 2022 season. A young list caused a mediocre year in their first VFL season as they finished 14th with a 4-6 record but were restricted from real competition due to restricted movement around the country meaning two of those wins came against the Sydney Swans and the remaining two wins coming from a struggling Aspley Hornets side. The Gold Coast Suns will be hoping to travel more often to playΒ a wider range of teams in 2022.
The Victorian Football League will return for the 2022 season on March the 26th and will continue to align closely with the Australian Football League Men's season for a 22 round season with each team taking 4 byes each. The Aspley Hornets are the only team to confirm their exit from the eastern coast competition with the remaining 21 clubs beginning to strengthen their sides for another run.
The salary cap has been increased by $20,000 for standalone teams to $220,000 while AFL and AFL-aligned clubs have received just a $10,000 boost to $110,000. The caps also introduce the ability to pay $10,000 of a playing coach's salary outside the cap while indigenous coaches implement a $5,000 concession.
The list size rules also remain pretty much identical to the 2021 rules with AFL affiliate clubs having a maximum of 30 players (15 development players, 15 primary listed players) while stand-alone clubs can have a total of 40 players on their lists (28 primary listed players, 12 development players).
The Gold Coast Sun's reserve side will be led by a new head coach in the upcoming season after Tate Kaesler has opted to spend more time with the AFL team as a strategy and defensive line coach. Kaesler moved to the Gold Coast from the Adelaide Crows initially as a development coach while spending time with the midfield group before moving to the VFL head coaching role at the beginning of the 2021 season.
As his replacement, Jackson Kornberg will lead the always young Gold Coast VFL team in 2022. Kornberg becomes the reserves coach after a year at the helm of the NAB League's Sandringham Dragons where he led the under 18's side to a first-place position with an 8-1 record but spent more than a decade in multiple roles across the club.
Kornberg will be hopi
... keep reading on reddit β‘I am aware of one reason- the club didn't have the best facilities when it started out and this can push people away.
But overall, the Gold Coast seems like a good place to live and the people in-charge ought to have learned their lessons from past mistakes, yet the club doesn't seem to be thriving the way it ought to, not relative to the other expansion club i.e. the GWS Giants.
