A list of puns related to "List of Amtrak routes"
Disclaimer: Some of the cities I picked were large enough for a station. I do not know the requirements, and I am a bit too lazy to look it up at the moment. So any feedback for this would be greatly appreciated.
Pioneer. Chicago-Seattle, with possibly Chicago-Portland. Portland branch would have stations in Portland, Hood River, and the Dalles before junctioning with the Seattle branch in La Grande. Furthermore, the Seattle branch stations would Seattle, Tukwila, Ellensburg, Yakima, Kennewick, then La Grande. After La Grande, it will continue in a southeast direction, with stations in Baker City, Ontario, Nampa, Boise, Mountain Home, Glenns Ferry, Pocatello, Brigham City, Ogden, then would junction at Salt Lake City with the California Zephyr and head to Chicago.
Heartland Flyer extension to Kansas City via Newton. Speaking of extensions, maybe bring back the Sunset Limited along the Gulf Coast? And even more hypothetical extensions, have the Vermonter go to Montreal and the Downeaster to Saint John's.
This is a route I made up... the Kentucky Cardinal name could fit though... Dixie Flyerr to Jacksonville, maybe Miami, via Chicago, Lafayette, Crawfordsville, Indianapolis, Columbus (IN), Louisville, Elizabethtown, Bowling Green, Murfreesboro, Tullahoma, Chattanooga, Dalton, Marietta, Atlanta, McDonough/Stockbridge, Macon, Warner Robins, Tifton, Valdosta, Lake City, Jacksonville.
Buckeye: Chicago, Dyer, Rensselaer, Lafayette, Crawfordsville, Indianapolis, Connersville, Cincinnati, Middletown, Dayton, Springfield, Columbus, Galion, Cleveland, Erie, Depew, Rochester, Syracuse, utica, Schenectady, Albany-Rensselaer, Rhinecliff, Poughkeepsie, Croton-Harmon, NYC
Blue Grass: Chicago, Dyer, Rensselaer, Lafayette, Crawfordsville, Indianpolis, Columbus (IN), Louisville, Shelbyville, Frankfort, Lexington
I'm going to put some more in a comment below. I've already taken up A TON of space.
Hi there, my husband and I are hoping to visit in early October after postponing our originally scheduled September visit. However, we are planning on taking the City of New Orleans train from Chicago and the route is currently out of service between Jackson and New Orleans due to damages from Hurricane Ida.
Amtrak is not providing any details on the extent of the damage or an estimated timeframe of when the route will be fully operational. They just keep cancelling the trains about 5-7 days out, sometimes only announcing the cancellation the day prior to the scheduled departure.
I would greatly appreciate any insight or information anyone has about the extent of the damage or any known progress on repairs so I can plan (and cancel reservations) accordingly. How likely would it be that the tracks would be operable by October 7th?
Thank you!
I cannot believe there isn't a passenger train route from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, or Chicago to Miami through Nashville, Atlanta and Orlando. These routes are travelled by millions of Americans each year by car or plane.
So here is the map:

I am going from Seattle to LA ( Sacramento) and then I am taking road through Nevada. From Chicago I take the road through Pennsylvania and then south to Miami.
There is many different smaller cities and stops on the way, is there anything on the way you would recommend I ABSOLUTELY check out? I don't have time for that many stops, but if you have something VERY awesome to recommend I would love to hear it. THANKS!
i really like the Pacific Surfliner route that runs San Diego to LA to SLO. a dream of mine would be to eventually do the California Zephyr ride from SF to Chicago.
wondering what might be some ones that might be overlooked or just ones that you like in particular. :D - on the Pacific Surfliner to ventura as i type this up, but just forgot how much i enjoy the view from here.
I already get a small pay bump for riding an e-bike several times a week. I have a work trip soon and I'm thinking about taking Silver Meteor to Tampa instead of driving. Even though Amtrak is fully diesel south of Virginia, it's my understanding that even a diesel train is better than a sole driver in most gasoline cars. I'm looking for an online resource so I don't have to try and crunch the math myself.
Thanks!

-Figured these lines might go over water and be worth filming.. -A lot mention Chicago -Makes me think of Prairies disappearance story: a friend takes her to Chicago then she takes the train to New York, if I recall correctly?
Thoughts?!
Hi everyone!
Been doing a lot of train travel the last six months -- had an amazing time on the Crescent to New Orleans, did monthly trips back and forth between D.C. and NYC on Acela/NE Regional, and just did the NE Regional to Providence/Boston!
I live in NYC now and am wondering if anyone had recommendations for places to visit on an Amtrak route from NYC? Does the Ethan Allen or Vermonter stop at anywhere cool in Vermont? Or Saratoga Springs? Take the Acela/NE Regional to Boston and then another train to Portland, ME?
What are some awesome destinations accessible by train over in the NE outside of the major cities? Thank you!
Hey yβall. I have a train at the Amtrak station and 6:10am the Saturday of thanksgiving break. Whatβs the best way to get there not including just walking, for safety and convenience reasons.
Iβve heard Uber is unreliable that early, does that include the Uber feature where you like, book in advance
