WHAT WOULD SHITPOSTIN DAILY ON THIS SUB BE WITHOUT A SUPER SLEDGE FOR NORTHERN HEMISPHERES TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERES LACK OD DEFENCE AND EVERYONE ELSE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT HOW SHIT AUSTRALIA IS?
4 TEAMS, 3 COUNTRIES, 2 GAMES, AND 1 RULE (ALL CAPS MOFOS)
NOW THAT ALL THE AUSTRALIANS ARE GONE (EXCEPT THE REF) WE CAN FINALLY HAVE SOME PEACE WITHOUT EM
REMEMBER AS ALWAYS, CAPS ONLY!
#Background A while ago, I wrote a piece on here that re imagined the Premier League as if it functioned like the MLS. I am a big fan of the MLS as a concept and how it functions. I really like the non-traditional format and I think if some fans could get over the whole relegation/promotion thing they would realise that there is something raw about the league that is appealing (at least it is to me). It is essentially, competition in a raw equal form.
As we all know the enforced competition in the MLS is off putting for many, but conceptually I think MLS is a really progressive a league, and it is one that forces you to challenge the status quo in terms of how football can be played and how competitions operate. One element that is intriguing for me, is the draft process.
#What is 'a draft'? In all major American Sports leagues, a βdraftβ is undertaken by the teams in the league to acquire new talent. I have tried to replicate this process, but instead of college players entering the league, I have substituted all inbound transfers to Premier League Clubs.
In order to this we have to take a bit of a leap of faith. We have to assume that all players coming into the league want to play βin the leagueβ rather than for a particular team. Therefore every player that was transferred to a PL Club in the summer of 2018/19 season was considered as eligible for selection in the PL Draft. This includes players that were already in the PL and that were transferred to another PL club.
This meant that players were essentially throwing their hat into the ring to play in the competition and were not motivated by joining a particular club. Players moving to other teams in the league for were, for the pruposes of this exercise, still considered as draft eligible.
This gave us a total of 122 Players that were sorted generally into the following position groups (as detailed by TransferMarkt).
Position
1 - Goalkeeper
2 - Centre-Back
3 - Left-Back
4 - Right-Back
5 - Defensive Midfield
6 - Central Midfield
7 - Left Winger
8 - Right Winger
9 - Centre-Forward
