[OC] I rebuilt the Seattle Supersonics - The Expansion Extravaganza

There have been rumors of a possible expansion, so let’s imagine it does happen, but the NBA decides to only add one new team to the league (sorry Vegas), bringing back the beloved Seattle Supersonics. The Sonics are back babbyyyyyyyy!

Now the Sonics need to build their team from ground up, starting with the expansion draft, and following it with signing players in the off-season.

Here are some simplified terms of the expansion draft:

  1. All 30 NBA teams will have the right to protect 8 players on their roster. Anyone on the current roster is protectable, including restricted free agents. If a restricted free agent is left unprotected by his former team, he is available for selection by the Supersonics, who would then hold his Bird Rights for the up-coming off-season. Teams will typically have 4-7 players unprotected. Unrestricted free agents can neither be protected from nor selected in the expansion draft -- they are essentially ignored.
Players who are likely to be left unprotected by their former teams include aging, overpaid veterans, unproven bench players, players who do not fit in financially with their team, or who disrupt team chemistry.
  2. The Sonics may only select 1 player per team.
  3. The Sonics must work within 2/3 of the normal rules of the NBA salary cap, so there will be salary-related restrictions which apply to the team's selections. The team’s salary cap for the 2022-2023 season will only be 2/3 of the league cap (112.414 million), meaning 74.93 million. The minimum team salary is also 2/3 of the leagues' minimum team salary (101.173 million), meaning 67.449 million.
The expansion draft occurs after the conclusion of the 2022 NBA Finals, but prior to the 2022 NBA Draft. The Sonics do not participate in the lottery, but automatically get the 5th and the 35th pick of the draft.
  4. There are no restrictions on player positions during the draft.
  5. The Sonics must select at least 14 players.
  6. Here is a list of the players that each NBA team are, in my opinion, likely to protect, and a list of those who may be left unprotected (not all players are listed, but most of them, and all that have any chance of being drafted by an expansion team):

Atlanta Hawks:

Protected:

  1. Trae Young
  2. John Collins
  3. Clint Capela
  4. Kevin Huerter
  5. De’Andre Hunter
  6. Onyeka Okongwu
  7. Bogdan Bogdanovic
  8. Cam Reddish

Unprotected (Salary this year, Years left on the contract)

  1. Jalen Johnson (2.6 million, 3 years)

Official /r/nba Power Rankings #1 - Time to overreact (11.1.2021)

26/30 rankers reporting this week. /R/NBA's Power Rankings are published every two weeks which is a bit different from most rankings. Other than that we rank the teams the same way as our competition. If write ups are left blank the team rep decided not to submit. We are still looking for Lakers and Pelicans reps. See their comment box in the table to apply. We encourage any user to fill in the blanks in the comment section. Rankings were supposed to be completed prior to today's games.

# Team Ξ” Record Comment
1 Jazz +3 5-1 The reigning regular season champions have picked up where they left off starting 5-1 to tie for the leagues best record early on. Through 6 games the most pleasing part of Utah’s early play has been the success of new recruit Hassan Whiteside. The Jazz have outscored opponents by 60 points with him on the court compared to just +20 with him off the court. Rudy Gobert has been averaging 17 points and 17 rebounds per game on 72/-/72 shooting splits as the center duo has the Jazz hold the leagues 3rd best DRTG. After five games the Jazz are 5th in ORTG despite Mitchell, Bogdanovic and Clarkson shooting just 41/145 (28%) from long range. With significant room for improvement offensively, but still producing wins, the Jazz are sitting in a good spot after 2 weeks of the regular season.
2 Heat +6 5-1 Honestly, I'm pretty pessimistic with my expectations for South Florida sports but I am very impressed at how we've started the season. It is very much still early days and its important to keep a level-head but Tyler Herro is averaging 22 points per game. There's only been 2 games so far where Tyler hasn't scored at the same rate as the other 4 but this is exactly what I want to see from him and hope to see fro Duncan Robinson. DRob's numbers aren't as sexy as Herro's so I hope that he figures it out throughout the year. Our main concern at the moment is probably who is backup PG if Lowry is out. We have Herro who should slot in normally behind Lowry but after that we get into Gabe Vincent. He's not a bad player but it's a sizable drop off from Lowry/Herro to Herro/Vincent. Not much to celebrate outside of that yet but if this form continues (which is highly unlikely) it'll be a great sign for our success this year.

Thai Customs & Habits That Baffle Visitors To Thailand

The tradition of giving newborn babies a nickname originated from a desire to trick malevolent spirits who may want to steal the baby away. Traditionally, people avoided complimenting parents on their new baby too, fearing making the child seem too desirable to the spirits. There are superstitions related to spirits housed inside the body of dolls, not cutting children’s hair if they are sick as a baby, male and female twins, animals, dreams, and more.

  • Just passing in front of someone often prompts the "ducking down" (and it's usually only slight).....
  • The groom before or after acceptance by the bride will ask the father for his daughters hand in marriage and present the father with a dowry.
  • This article is very nice and picture also if you show those picture in coloure they are locking beautiful.ok,and iI sugges you you write article about "Thai" children and their behaviour in education and socity with colour images.
  • But newcomers to Thailand often have to contend not only with a person’s real name but also a nickname.
  • Also, used toilet paper is to be discarded in the bin provided; never try to flush it down as it most plumbing isn’t designed to handle paper.

To the south lies the palm-fringed beaches and islands of the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, renowned for their snorkeling, diving and nightlife. While to the north is the cultural center of Chiang Mai and the remote minority communities of the long-necked Karen, Hmong, Lahu and Akha people. You might often see a small, elevated house-like structures made of wood or stone, at the entrance of a house and a building. It is a house of good spirits which are believed will protect you from evils. As such, to keep them happy, Thais will leave offerings at the foot of miniature ladders up to these spirit houses.

Customs

Most visitors to Thailand quickly become accustomed to the β€œwai”. This is the Thai greeting style pressing your palms together and bending you head. Motorbike taxis are popular in Thailand as it’s the fastest mode of transportation. It is common habit to see women sitting side-saddle on motorbikes. The most obvious reason is that they want to avoid any embarrassing wardrobe malfunctions if they’re wearing skirts or dresses. This underpart served as a place for women to work, a place to sleep during the hot season, a storage space, and a p

NBA 2K22: Player Ratings Update (November 4, 2021)

We’re only two weeks into the start of the 2021-2022 NBA season and we’ve already seen a handful of highlights, thrilling overtime games, and players in mid-season form. Prior to the start of the regular season, we released the list of player ratings for NBA 2K22. Naturally, there were some surprises and some snubs, but with two weeks of games under our belt, we can now reassess the ratings. Let’s break down the most notable changes and the players that are excelling.

https://preview.redd.it/vpwlyr20dux71.png?width=828&format=png&auto=webp&s=bb4c0b60da40e78546de42de1caa73536f2aab57

Paul George, SF, Los Angeles Clippers: 90 OVR (+2)

It’s early, but right now, Paul George is averaging the most points of his career at 28.3 per game. Expected to carry the Clippers without Kawhi Leonard, PG has answered the call so far this season, even if it hasn’t translated to wins yet. The Los Angeles native has high expectations this season and is viewed by many as a potential MVP candidate. PG is rolling with a full head of steam, let’s see if he can keep it going.

https://preview.redd.it/9k4dlys1dux71.png?width=828&format=png&auto=webp&s=09d6a96dd5fac3a955bf507d575424302894bf1c

Karl-Anthony Towns, C, Minnesota Timberwolves: 89 OVR (+2)

KAT is undeniably one of the best big men in the game and has a knack for scoring from virtually anywhere on the court. It should come as no surprise that he’s posting his typical numbers of 24 points, nearly 10 rebounds, and four assists per game, but what he’s doing from an efficiency standpoint is insane. He’s currently shooting 52 percent from the field and knocking down 50 percent of his three point attempts, let that sink in. Between KAT and Anthony Edwards, the Timberwolves might make some noise this year.

https://preview.redd.it/qeptrxx2dux71.png?width=828&format=png&auto=webp&s=5ce10a9fbd9f71aa1fdca89cdbf567aaa5a658a4

Ja Morant, PG, Memphis Grizzlies: 89 OVR (+4)

Serious question, is there anything Ja can’t do? He can leap over defenders with a single bound, he can speed from one end of the court to the other in the blink of an eye, and he can score at will with a graceful touch. The former No. 2 overall pick is making an early case for Most Improved Player of the Year, posting 28.3 points per game, 5.4 rebounds, and 7.7 assistsβ€”all career-highsβ€”while hoisting his squad into a legitimate playoff contender year-in and year-out. Morant is a rising star, so it’s only right his rating

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.

This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.

If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.

Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.

Who is Important to Your Team?

Which players on your team's roster should they lock in for the year, or longer?

Which players do you wish your team should move on from.

I'm going to go through each team with my opinions. Feel free to tell me why I'm wrong, or share your own opinions, etc...

Atlanta Hawks

Lock in: Trae Young, DeAndre Hunter, John Collins, Kevin Huerter, Cam Reddish, Clint Capela, Danilo Gallinari, Bogdon Bogdanovic, Sharife Cooper, Onyeka Okongwu, Jalen Johnson

Move on: Solomon Hill

Uncertain: Delon Wright, Lou Williams, Skyler Mays, Gorgui Dieng, Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot

Atlanta is young and good at the same time, there aren't really any actual pieces they should move on from, and tbh there are only a few pieces that wouldn't matter either way. I will point out Solomon Hill as being someone who would only take away minutes from someone more worthy of the playing time. Unless they are absolutely demolished by injuries he probably shouldn't see the floor.

Boston Celtics

Lock in: Jayson Tatum, Robert Williams, Grant Williams, Marcus Smart, Dennis Schroder, Payton Pritchard, Al Horford

Move on: Jaylen Brown, Josh Richardson

Uncertain: Romeo Langford, Brodric Thomas, Aaron Nesmith, Sam Hauser, Jabari Parker, Juancho Hernangomez, Bruno Fernando, Enes Kanter,

Time to get crazy! I hate this roster construction and am of the opinion that Brown and Tatum aren't the ideal fit. I have Boston choosing Tatum over Brown in the long run (I personally like Brown more, but most would want Tatum). Some of the younger pieces with talent and potential stay like Timelord, Grant, and Pritchard, as well as some pieces that are extremely good in what they do in Horford, Smart, and Schroder. Finding better fits around them and focusing on playmaking being the priority would make this tea much better. They move on from Brown in this case to try a different fit from a high caliber player, and Richardson fits the Smart role, and I don't think he would be utilized very well on this roster with Smart already doing what he would be doing, but worse at this point.

Brooklyn Nets

Lock in: Kevin Durant, James Harden, Joe Harris, Bruce Brown, Patty Mills, LaMarcus Aldridge, Blake Griffin, Paul Millsap, Cameron Thomas, Jevon Carter

Move on:

Uncertain: Kyrie Irving, DeAndre Bembrey, David Duke Jr., Kessler Edwards, James Johnson, Nicholas Claxton, Day'Ron Sharpe

Nothing wild here for the most part. The Nets have a solid team, the only issue is a

2021 NBA State Teams

Hi guys, I'm from Australia where we have a State of Origin competition for rugby league and formerly our own code of football. Basically, you represent the state where you played junior footy and I've made an NBA version for the last couple of years, so here's my latest edition.

Players represent their 'state of origin', and I have used the state they played high school ball in to decide which state they represent. I am mindful of prep and boarding schools so I have used common sense; for example D'Angelo Russell grew up in Kentucky, spent 1 year at a Kentucky high school and then 3 at the Montverde Academy in Florida, he would play for Kentucky in this scenario.

I also decided to include Canada as well. Here's all 50 states + Canada ranked with their teams:

#51 to 43: Hawaii, Idaho, Maine, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont
