A list of puns related to "Joanne van Os"
WTF is a gingerbread house anyways. TBH idek what gingerbread is.
I grew up with 40C weather around December. No snow no chimneys no nothing.
And yes, my godchild getting a present from me, not from no fictitious old white man.
Alguém deixou o carro desengrenado e o carro acabou descendo sozinho e bateu no muro.
Alguém poderia me dar alguma orientação?
Muito obrigado!
First of all, welcome to my sub! I'm flattered you enjoyed my work enough to come here. As you can see, this has been a very long work in progress and I imagine it will be many more months before I get this sub up and running the way I would like.
Until then, I thought I'd create a pinned post for a few common questions I get.
Without a doubt, the most common question I get asked is, "how can I support your work?" Which, for what its worth, is incredibly flattering. There is no obligation to do so, but if you are so inclined, here are a few options:
I recently set up a PayPal account under the van Os Project, which you can access here.
I also set up an account on "Buy me a Coffee" but I am still being verified, so I'll update and add a link here when I've been approved.
I also loved fundraising Jacob a Stolpersteine, so if a particular victim speaks to many of you, let me know, and we can start a fundraiser to get them a stone, too. I think its one of the most powerful things we can do to make sure that no one is forgotten.
Two other important things you can check out while this sub is still in its infancy:
I recently made an account on Medium, which you can access here. I am still trying to find my grove and where I am the most comfortable/have the most power over my research and content.
I also made a Facebook page where I shared a few stories. You can follow that as well (I cannot see who follows it, so feel free to do so knowing that you retain all your privacy, even while my page is small).
I think that is all I have for links for now, but stay tuned. Thank you for helping me memorialize these victims who were forgotten until now.
I mean come on. The Expanse was a fucking exercise in perfect outfits for each character. They weren't overstated unless they needed to be, and they accomplished a futuristic feeling without looking stupid. It is one of the first shows I've ever watched where I, a 30 year old construction worker, looked at a character and said, "damn that's a fly ass outfit." I'll keep it brief because no one wants to hear my 30 minute diatribe on avarsarala's outfits because you all know everything that needs to be said. Absolutely incredible. So thank you, Joanne, for not only making the costumes a part of the show, but by enhancing the experience 10 fold. A rare feat, and one that many shows should take note of. The first time I've legitimately taken note of how important a great costume designer is.
This is a long one, buckle up!
In Judaism, after someone passes, its common to say “may his/her memory be a blessing”. Its also common in Judaism to believe that no one is “gone” until the last person has forgotten them and no longer says their name.
What has always bothered me about working in Shoah history (and, by default, genealogy), is that the vast majority of victims are never "claimed". No one has written their story, connected the photos to their lives. The problem with Shoah research is that it is extremely difficult; documents are in 85 different databases, many still only in their original paper form, deteriorating in some basement somewhere (purposely not digitized due to content/fear of antisemitism). Some have been destroyed, others are missing names or full of bad transliterations or bad data. Because of this, these victims get forgotten. Their families are dead, their friends and villages are dead, and no one is here to do the work to remember them. I have years of training in Shoah research and it can still be very difficult for me to connect the pieces.
So that’s what I’m going to do. One by one. If you guys like this, I will consider making it a series, maybe here on /r/Genealogy or I’ll make a blog or something.

I chose my subject very carefully: I checked all memorial websites, as I wanted to write about someone who had been “forgotten” by those who are living, or were alive post-1945. Jacob van Os is in no trees on Ancestry, his Yad Vashem page (the database of victims names) has no testimony affidavit (people submit names of friends, acquaintances, family that died in the Shoah - a huge portion of victims have them. It means someone still living remembers them).
He has a very messy, low-effort page (someone just copied a photo of him and nothing else) on a memorial website. The memorial even claimed that Jacob was untraceable. Not on my watch, dammit.
Let's dive into the life of Jacob van Os.
-----
Meet Jacob.
Jacob van Os was born on 22 February 1876 in Amsterdam. He was born to hat-maker Meÿer van Os and Sipora, geb. Content, whom themselves were both from Amsterdam, born and raised.
Jacob was the second oldest child, born three years after his parents 1873 marriage. His older brother Levie was born in July 1874. Jacob’s sister Caroline was born almost a year-to-the day after him in 1877.
The family at the time was living at Sint Antoniesbreestraat, and then Waterlooplein 74 (whi
