Greatest President of All Time: Match 30 (4) Teddy Roosevelt vs (13) James Monroe
Vote for your president here!
Welcome to Match 30 of the Greatest President of All Time Tournament. This will be a regular series of posts in which a pair of presidents from history will be paired up and the users here will be allowed to vote for which they believe to be superior. As we move through the match ups, we will finally determine who the greatest president is! With 2020 coming up, now is a good time to reflect back on the past politics of the U.S. and dig into why these men of history are beloved or despised or forgotten. I've created this with the hope of spurring some great conversation about the politics of our history.
Tournament Notes: The rankings for this tournament were done by combining a large number of rankings from various historians, C-Span, AP Politics, and other polling groups. I understand if you don't agree with the seeding, and I as well have presidents I think are highly over or underrated. However, if you believe that (23) Grover Cleaveland is the greatest president of all time then post your support for him in his match ups. Because he is still president and may continue to be so past 2020, 45th president Donald J. Trump is not a part of this tournament. While he was not included in a few of the rankings, 44th president Barack Obama has actually been included, though.
I will be posting these threads every few days and updating the bracket as we go along. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
To get the conversation started on the match ups, I will be posting the presidential profiles by the Miller Center from University of Virginia. These profiles link to tons of essays about each president's life, policies, elections, and their legacy.
