Two years ago, Maria Fontana, the head of the Psychology Department at Columbia University, sat on a jury for one of the most depraved cases ever to pass through the hallowed halls of City Hall. Wyatt Butler, an antique watch restorer and alleged serial killer, was portrayed in the courtroom as a brutal monster. But Maria had to make the tough choice. In good conscience, she couldn't convict him based purely on circumstantial evidence, and her deciding vote set Wyatt Butler free. The media soon outed her as the lone juror and her successful and quaint life was turned upside down. The victims of Wyatt's ritualistic killings never forgave her either.
Now, she and her family have decided to take a vacation to get away from everything: a two-week-long transatlantic cruise. Nothing, and nobody should be able to bother her there. With her two twins and her fiancé Steve, she is set to put the past behind her as soon as the ship leaves port. But when a passenger mysteriously disappears, Maria is left to wonder if maybe this was no coincidence. When another passenger is discovered brutally murdered in a similar way to Butler’s ritualistic MO, the ship goes on lockdown.
Maria, one of only twelve people in the world with intimate knowledge of the case, faces a perilous ticking clock. Is it a copycat? Or is she trapped on board with the bloodthirsty maniac she chose to set free?

I have no issue with James Renner writing about his feelings on his blog. James is entitled to his perspective, just like everyone else. However, he is not entitled to his own facts. Below is an assessment of several claims from his recent post, followed by an appeal to readers to come forward if they have been affected by a certain type of harassment resulting from their participation in the community (detailed below).
FACTUALLY QUESTIONABLE CLAIMS:
JAMES CLAIM: “But the Murrays’ personal attacks in that show set the tone for the way I’m treated to this day by their most ardent fans.”
FACTCHECK: I watched the series and saw no personal attacks on James Renner. I did see Fred Murray respond to the question of why he did not talk to James for his book, which was that he did not trust him and did not believe he would be consistently truthful. If what James says is true, then he should provide examples or evidence. Absent that, I have to grade this claim as FALSE.

JAMES CLAIM: “I was told that Julie and Kurt had no time to moderate comments, or focus on the hate, because their focus was on finding Maura.”
FACTCHECK: I find this claim highly suspect. Who is the source? From what I understand, there is a lot of work that goes into moderating a Facebook page, and it seems like the family takes the responsibility seriously. At best, this claim is anonymous rumor and hearsay, and it therefore gets a grade of UNSUBSTANTIATED and DUBIOUS.

JAMES CLAIM: “My worst fears had happened. And even after that, instead of an apology, instead of asking their followers to tone it down..”
FACTCHECK: Here James is talking about the incident in which allegedly, someone left a note at his vacation home telling him (I am paraphrasing) “to enjoy his vacation, but he was not welcome back” as well as a warning about the health risks associated with ingesting sand.
I will take him at his word that this incident was his “worst fear.” But I will point out that following the incident, the Murray family did reiterate their position against bullying and harassment, which they formalized in an official statement last year. Was shocked that this was not brought up here. This is a ong the more inflammatory things zach has ever said to harden because it appears he's not kidding.
Is there any merit to his argument or is he talking garbage ?
