Im not saying he wasnt immensely inspiring and didnt advance the bass like few others have but, he played kinda like an asshole....he stepped on peopleββs solos all the time, his constant look at me attitude, which as someone who is also bipolar, i do understand, made him at times more of a hinderance than an boon for the ensembles he was playing in...there is no agrueing his technique and tone, his vast inate understanding of harmonic substitutions, his speed and dexterity make him shine above many but, if the purpose of the bass is to support, i find he lacked in that area, at times which im sure corresponded to his mental state at the time. Pound for pound, and ignoring the differences between the uoright and electric, I feel NHOP is the GOAT...he had the soeed, the dexterity, the sense of adventure, the ability to pull of runs that left even his band mates speechless and he tended to lay down a rock solid foundation whereas Jaco at times was more into serving his ego than the song...once agin, im not knocking Jaco, , im jsut saying, sometimes there was too much Jaco and not enough song whereas ive never felt NHOP was playing more than what helped the song as a whole while still tearing it up....plus it would have been nice had Jaco clarified that he did not invent the fretless, that had been done a decade before him by Bill Wyman, in 1961 when Jaco was 10, and Phil Lesh briefly tried his hand at the fretless in the late 60s with a cutom made guild that i dont believe ever saw light on a stage until it was gifted to another bass player....too many player get very insistent that Jaco invented it, but truth is he didnt, Wyman is the' well known player and Ampegβs Aub-1 went into market in 1966 and fender had a fretless p-bass in 1970,
disclaimerβ i massively failed at getting my point across properly and used a title that had nothing to do with my intent.please excyse the lack of punctuation and the near pornographic use of run on thoughts and sentences
after watching some youtube, one was a fretless guitar and had a comment from the poster, about guitar players not lasting more than a few seconds on a . fretless neck that made me laugh, thinking of the thousands of school children each year who pick up the violin, cello, bass if they are the cool kids, and learning their notes by using their ears... while trying to come up with a snarky comment for a friend, a jaco video came on, one i hadnt seen before. it was Jaco, in a jazz setting with a rhy
... keep reading on reddit β‘After more than 30 years listening to Jaco Pastorius, I still find his playing, songwriting, and life so fascinating. My own introduction to Jaco came through a CSUN Jazz A Band performance of Liberty City with Mike Elizondo on bass (now musical director of Live from Here). They really killed that performance that day, and I was hooked. I got all the Jaco records, from Weather Report, to self titled, to Joni Mitchell. But the real find was the Word of Mouth Big Band album, on which finally there it was again, Liberty City. Liberty City screams, it pops, it glides, it features the group, and Jaco straight lays it down. It's everything.

My favourite quote comes where he talks about the sound he achieved on βContinuumβ:
βI played the whole tune twice, note for noteβthat's how I did it. Everybody thinks I've got all sorts of electronic gear, but I don't use any pedals, no electronics. It's all in my hands. But on that particular tune I played the whole tune note for note twice, solo and everythingβ
Don't know if this is the right subreddit for this, but since Jaco isn't that well known in the rock community I'm just going to post this here.
Just found out Jaco played with 3 out of 4 Queen members on Ian Hunter's song "You Nearly Did Me In" which I find to be interesting and cool since this isn't really spoken about.

Hi,
Any recommendations for COVID testing near the SJO airport or the Jaco area?
What are prices looking like?
EDIT: best price Iβve seen is $50. Anything better than that out there?
Would be nice for practice, cant find any online.
Weβre really looking forward to eat at some real local Costa Rica places and would LOVE your advise
Thanks
Hey!
A few friends and are I staying in Jaco for the month to work. We don't have a lot of off time but it is our dream to get to Monteverde. Do you have any suggestions as to how? It would probably be a day trip
Looks like I'll be spending much of my time in the Playa Hermosa/Jaco area during my trip. I'd to spend a day scuba diving, and I'm hoping there might be something available in that area. Anyone know or have suggestions down around there?
I'm going to Costa Rica next week, and I'm booking all of my tours now. I would like to take a half day catamaran cruise, and wondering if it's better to take the catamaran from Jaco (thinking Playa Fantasia) or from Manuel Antonio (maybe ocean king?). The catamarans from Manuel Antonio look a little cheaper, but the ones from Jaco fit our schedule maybe a bit better.
Wondering if anyone has any tips on one vs the other.
in jaco the galactic patrolman, jaco was sent to earth to kill a saiyan baby (baby goku) before he could attack the planet but missed gokus arrival cuz tights destracted him, later during the fight against golden frieza, bulma tells jaco that goku is a saiyan that grew up on earth. did jaco ever realize goku was the baby he was supposed to kill? and did tights realize it either? cuz in jaco the galactic patrolman, jaco tells tights the he came to earth to kill a saiyan baby and described saiyans to her, and im pretty sure bulma would have told her sister about a strange boy with a tail that doesnt know where he's from that she met in the woods
Hey all - going to Jaco beach soon and was wondering if anyone recently went. How is the nightlife? Is it dead due to covid?
