Possible JP drain blockage
No smoking or drug use
Good evening. My wife is 14 days out from a torsoplasty and has two JP negative pressure drains. One anterior and one posterior in the lower body. Since surgery the drains have been looking normal with the expected change in color from bloody to straw colored, with about 25cc every 24 hours from the drains. About 4 hours ago, she checked and found her posterior drain was full to 100cc (bulb capacity is 100cc) of blood, with significant clotting. So much so that she cannot drain the clots from the bulb. She did manage to drain the fluid from the bulb, which was significantly bloody. Over the course of the next 4 hours there has been no further drainage. I have three concerns:
First, the composition of the fluid. Essentially blood with clots. This is a drastic change from what was draining before. I am wondering if this was simply a clot that moved through and into the drain, and the blood behind it was blocked and drained once that clot resolved?
Second, The bulb has clots big enough inside that we cannot fully remove them via the drain port. Is this a concern? Should we not worry about the remaining clots trapped in the drain?
Third, As there has been no further drainage from the line. We milked the line and moved what fluid there was in there to the bulb, but of particular note, the line remained collapsed until she removed upline pressure from it, at which point it appeared to backflow a little bit back towards her body. Is it possible this is blocked inside and if so, what steps can we take to resolve this?
